Star Trek Online Catch-All

I can't get either Steam or the .exe file to run the patch. This is driving me nuts.

Do not run the game through Steam, or even open Steam up. Run the game by launching from the .exe - otherwise after the initial patch Steam will delete your game files and re-d/l everything.

Thanks Steam.

EDIT:

"If you launch the game through Steam, even if your auto is turned off, Steam will STILL try to update it when you launch it. You have to launch it DIRECTLY from the files with Steam ALREADY loaded and turn the Auto-Updater OFF..."

*Slaps forehead* Well that's just freaking awesome. I kinda understand why it's done this way in terms of verification but shouldn't there just be a way to update to launch version and just update the name in Steam?

And yes I understand how stupidly layman that statement is and that a programmer would have hundreds of reasons explaining why but as a user who has gone from a beta client to live client with just a simple patch, its hard to see pass that.

No choice but to let it download. Back to ME2 in the meantime.

Too late - had STEAM up while I was working on the house. Now I have to wait for it too update!

Had a good time getting to Lt7, now off to dinner and a movie. Was pretty smooth, actually a much better experience in terms of fewer disconnects and less lag/rubber-banding than in closed or open beta. Sadly they had the borg issue, so I created my alt first. Will at some point go back and do my borg.

Yes, so far it has been very smooth, even on the away missions...

I did the lifetime. Never done an MMO or a lifetime before, but I think I may get my money's worth out of this one.

I ran through Steam for the launch today and was fine. But when I tried to go back in later, it threw me into the update. I never had any trouble during our afternoon session getting back into the game when I got kicked off. I have both Steam and non-Steam, but it looks like they both are trying to update now. On another PC when I loaded the beta it is trying to patch too.

I think I am going to pull the trigger - see how the weekend goes...

hi where is sulu plz thx

Other than the intro video, I don't see much difference from Beta so far. Looking for CwJ folks now...

Sulu is in the Admiral's office.

And I got thrown into the update early this evening. Doesn't look like I'll be playing anymore tonight...

Damn you all! I still can't get in. Steam is being a punk and keeps telling me I can't run the game from it. I tried d/l it from the cryptic site, but all I get there are error messages... anyone know how to fix this?

I gave up and let it update and 3 hours later I could play again. Course by then I had prior plans so couldn't play until around 10pm. They seemed to have fixed the borg issue and I made a borg engineer. I've had no problems with lag or anything so far. The whole steam thing sucked but otherwise it is smooth.

My work here is done.

What do the borg characters look like? Do they just appear to be regular characters with pale skin and some metal bits?

Tamren wrote:

They had to disable them earlier, so not sure on the look...

Also those with STEAM - I just disabled auto update.

I just had a flash of inspiration; I know the one main feature this game is missing...

Voice recognition.

More than any other, this is a game where I want to yell "Brace for impact" into my mic, and have it activate the ability... or "ahead full impulse!", or "attack pattern alpha!"

That... would be awesome...

Edit: Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks so, someone already setup a 3rd party app to do just that. I'll have to try it out later.

Pretty much. You get some fiddly bits that can be around the head. Wires, eye pieces, ect. You can go towards a more greener look but I thought the white really made the veins pop.

Things seem to be running well today. I am having better luck than I did in the beta, previously.

Tip of the day: To change space ship movement from holding both mouse buttons to just holding the left mouse button, go into your key bindings and set as follows:

Enable camera rotation: Left Drag
Camera turn-to-face: Left Press

I did the lifetime thing as well. Who is running the show with the Fleet. Do we have one up yet?

We do. I'll be online for a few hours and I can invite. Send a tell to Shoal@Shoal07 and I'll invite you.

Here's mine, I did a little bit of customization with the facial features.

So my roommate decided not to pay our internet bill and they won't turn it back on till Tuesday. So I'm chilling up at my university downloading the client and I hope to get a few hours in on my laptop.

I'm having a bit of an issue logging in after just getting booted

Shoal07 wrote:

That would be because the server is down.

Alright, so I'm pissed off now at Steam. All my Steam account shows is Star Trek Online Beta. When I click that to run, it says that its unavailable. wtf? anyone else having this sort of issue? I'm not sure how to deal with this...

Steam is saying it's unavailable, or the STO servers? Because the STO servers are down at the moment. My link in Steam says beta as well, but it's been running the game just fine when the servers are up.

I think I figured it out after being frustrated. Somehow, I'm missing 9 files that I'm currently D/L from Steam again. How this happened is beyond me, but I'm figuring that one of them IS the *.exe file from looking through my directories.
