Finally a dime to be proud of

From Yahoo / AP

Conservative Republicans angry over an unflattering television movie about Ronald Reagan want to put his image on the dime in place of Democratic icon Franklin Delano Roosevelt...

Supporters of the "Ronald Reagan Dime Act" said Roosevelt and his government-expanding New Deal represented decades past, while Reagan's conservative, anti-communist administration ushered in society as it exists today.

Great idea. Maybe we can put FDR on the front of food stamps.

Yes, great idea. Because we need to spend a bunch of money changing the face on the dime. Great use of time and money.

By this logic they should put him on the penny because Lincoln was a really long time ago.

This is BS. Ask almost anyone who the top 5 presidents were and FDR will be on the list, I doubt Reagan would be on more than 5%.

Really? I think republicans really like Reagan.

while Reagan''s conservative, anti-communist administration ushered in society as it exists today.

Good comedy, indeed.

Maybe alzheimer''s medication purchased through the new Republican medicare drug benefits program can be embossed with Reagan''s visage

An Alzheimer''s crack? Nice...

Roo''s right. Closer to 45% - I would bet that anyone who votes Republican regularly would put him on the list.

The classiness of liberals never ceases to amaze.

Oh yeah that was so much classier...

Hmmm, putting Reagan on one of the smallest and least used coinage in America. Some would call that irony.

I don''t think FDR would mind being on food stamps as it is a program he certainly would support.

If John F. Kennedy can get a coin Ronald Reagan should get a coin.

Hmm. If they are under 20, I would imagine that most would go ''Who?''.

As for Top 5 Presidents, FDR did some things right (WWII), and some things very wrong (prolonged the Depression by at least 5-8 years through continuous social tinkering and introduced the American Welfare state).

All in all, FDR was more of a bad President than a good one. Reagan reversed stag-flation, brought about the end of the cold war, and introduced the longest and most prosperous period of growth in US history while simultaneously reducing the size of the Federal government. Did he do some things wrong? Sure, but not much. Not a bad legacy overall. I personally think Reagan should have been on the Dollar coin.

Cabana Boy?

Yes it was. Food stamps are a legitimate government enterprise, created and supported by Democrats, who think they are integral to the good of society. I assume FDR, if he were alive and still a Democrat, would support them as well.

Reagan is suffering from a disease that completely destroys the faculties and identity of a person. It has reduced a very intelligent, eloquent, caring man to an almost mindless shell.

See the difference?

Can I assume from your title Ralcydan, you''re not proud of the current dime?

Can I assume from your title Ralcydan, you''re not proud of the current dime?

Is anyone? And by that I don''t mean that people are ever filled with shame gazing on the dime, but I have certainly never thought - ""Wow, I am so proud of this dime I am carrying. I just wish I had a quarter I could honor too, so I could make this damn phone call.""

I can''t believe that you actually tried to prove that your sarcastic comment was somehow ""classier"" than mine.

Food stamps are something that I''m sure you loathe (as do most other Republicans). Your snide suggestion that we put FDR''s image on them was only meant as ridicule. My mind boggles at the cognitive dissonance you must live with to be able to mock and then take offense at being mocked in almost the same breath.

First of all, I wasn''t aware that I was being mocked - I was responding to a comment that took snide pleasure at someone else''s disease. Secondly, ridicule is a matter of perspective. If you actually support something (ie, Democrats and food stamps), how is it mocking to link you with it? Your basic statement shows me that you agree that food stamps are worthy of scorn and ridicule.

Now, you are right that I was making a joke about this, but if you don''t think there is a difference between talking about a president linked to a policy his party supports and taking a cheap shot at someone''s illness, then my mind boggles at the compassionate dissonance that continues to be shown by supporters of the so-called ideology that cares - liberalism.

I think all of our currency should just feature clown faces from now on. It would be representative of what our government is swiftly becoming.

And no, I''m not talking about Bush''s presidency, I''m talking about our government as a whole and the way it''s changed over time.

think all of our currency should just feature clown faces from now on. It would be representative of what our government is swiftly becoming.

How perfect is this.

Look at this clown.

Didn''t Reagan play the part of Bozo the Clown?

I''m talking about our government as a whole and the way it''s changed over time.

Actually, the government runs pretty much the way it always has - and it was designed this way. Bickering parties, special interests, and selfish politicans were all planned for and in place by 1800 or so. Not that this mitigates your clown idea... (and no, slick, Reagan didn''t play Bozo - hopefully that was a joke, or if not you should change to a better bubble gum wrapper for your history facts)

So it''s settled? Clowns for coins?

""Cabana Boy?""

Great, now I owe GWJ five bucks.

Didn''t Reagan play the part of Bozo the Clown?

This was a question not a statement of fact.

This is what actually made me think of Bozo.

Bonzo is only one letter off from Bozo. You have to think that Bush clown was funny, though. I would vote for that on a dime.

My mind boggles at the cognitive dissonance you must live with to be able to mock and then take offense at being mocked in almost the same breath.

Its a rare skill.

Its a rare skill.

Actually, it''s all a matter of perspective. If I mock you for bouncing a check and you tell me you''re glad my mom has cancer, we aren''t really doing the same things there...

Now I am betting...about $100 bucks what the Republican response to this comic would be. And it rhymes with tyrd. But it''s still a good political cartoon.

It''s a simple matter of mockery escalation... if you fall behind in the mockery race you have a mockery gap! Can''t let that happen.

my mom has cancer

Im sorry to hear that. My grandfather is in a bad place right now and may be leaving us soon.
