Like that very much! Thanks for recommending it.

If you liked what At The Drive-In was doing or even Big Black, then you must listen to Drive Like Jehu.

Artist: We vs the Shark
Song(s): This Graceless Planet, (After)Life Things, I am a Fantastic Battle
Genre: Math Rock aka crazy intertwined guitar lines and time signatures

Artist: Cinemechanica
Song(s): The Professor Burns Vegas, I'm Tired of Paul McCartney, Bruckheimer, Brain Tarp
Genre: More Math Rock. 32nd notes out the wazoo!

Pardon my skimming any of these have been mentioned before.

That's some good stuff. The first thing it reminded me of was "Futile" by Porcupine Tree.

Double thumbs up for the Chapman stick.

That's a Warr Guitar.

Too industrial for my tastes, then again that's kinda where KC was going with "The Power To Believe." Speaking of which, I can't wait for the latest incarnation to actually do something.

I get the feeling that these guys aren't very big outside the UK.

I dig 'em, I didn't know they had a new album out until you posted in the 2009 Nomination thread though. I just have yet to pick it up.

Amen, brother.

Zero 7 - The space between
The The - Uncertain smile
Chris Isaak - Wicked Game

....sigh

Edit: Ok that's done it. I'm in that kinda mood now. I'll add:

Memories of Green - The Blade Runner soundtrack (orchestral adaption)

This song makes me smile. Love when the drums boom in.

Matt & Kim - Good Ol' Fashion Nightmare

Thea Gilmore is one of the few artists I've listened to for a long time and always wondered why they never had more sucess. I listen to a lot of bands/artists who most people haven't heard of and usually I'm OK with that but this is one of the few cases that's really made me wonder about most peoples music taste.

She's a great songwriter, has a good voice and consistantly puts out albums that get great reviews and fairly wide coverage (Neil Gaiman featured them widely on his blog for a while for instance) but just fail to sell. It's nice in some ways to be able to support them and go and see them in small venues but I just wish they had more sucess than they've had.

This isn't the best example of their music but seemed to be the most popular on Youtube.

Thea Gilmore - Holding your hand

Band: Arcadia
Song: The Flame
Genre: A side project of Duran Duran - they turn the Duran Duran-ness up to 11 here. The video's this great hokey Agatha Christie mystery.

Edit to add that the video was directed by Russell Mulcahy, who directed The Highlander among other things.

I haven't seen something so 80's in a long time. They certainly turned that up to 11.

Love it! The whole album is surprisingly good and has always been one of my favorites from the 80's. It actually aged rather well.

I too love Matt and Kim skeletonframes! Good job posting them here

I recommend to you humbly, Kid Cudi.

'Heaven at Nite' -This song makes me smile so much, I love the synths. Pretty simple song from his debut mixtape.

'The Prayer'
Also off debut mixtape.
If you like this, check out his new CD, Man on the Moon. It's very good

EDIT: embedding defeated me, sorry guys. Edited to tell you what they are called.

I liked it. Sounds very heavily Rufus Wainwright-inspired.

It really does, but Alber's voice is about 100x less annoying than Rufus Wainwright's. I like it too.

I WILL kill you.

Aaaaah! Everywhere I turn I can't escape that creepy concave-chest album cover. That's about 5 times in the last week its popped up. I think god is trying to tell me to listen to that album.

Artist: LIGHTS
Song: Ice

LIGHTS is a geek. She's a WOW addict, draws her own comic, loves her Macbook and Keytar, professes love for Bjork and The Knife's music, used to sing metal, but now does 'intergalactic-electro music' (which she started doing at 13 with an busted up 8-track recorder). Plus, she's about as adorably cute as they come.

Artist: Sleigh Bells

Song: A/B Machines

Song: Crown on the Ground

This duo is starting to get a little bit of buzz but I expect by the end of the year they will be pretty big, especially if they put a LP out this year. Some would call it noise but I really like their sound.

Artist: Beach House

Song: Used To Be

Beach House has been around for a bit, but their new album Teen Dream has been getting a lot of hype. Album comes out Jan.26.

Artist: We Were Promised Jetpacks

Song: Quiet Little Voices

Not much to say about these guys, I just really like this song.

Aussie hiphop at it's finest:

Hilltop Hoods

Song: Chase That Feeling

Song: Still Standing

more Aussie awesomeness:

The Cat Empire

Song: The Chariot

Song: Day Like These

Checked out We Were Promised Jetpacks due to this thread and Natjak's recommendation. I'm loving this album, right now. Good call, Nat. Good call.

Here's 2 songs from The Rural Alberta Advantage that I can't get out of my head:

Don't Haunt This Place

Four Night Rider

Update:
Just went through the thread again to see if there was anything else that I missed and realized that Wipeout had posted Matt & Kim on page 4. I should pay more attention.

Also, I think I've got a crush on the We Were Promised Jetpacks song Keeping Warm.
The first line doesn't show up until four and a half minutes in, but it's a doozy. "The chances of being born are so slim, so keep warm. So keep warm."
So good. So f**king good.

Pomplamoose - Expiration Date - I really like the concept of their "videosongs," where you see the source for all the sounds that you hear. The singer's voice isn't always perfect, but there's something engaging about it nonetheless.

Laura Marling - Ghosts - Singer/songwriter from the UK. I believe she was 17 when she recorded the album this is on, but she has the voice of a more mature/experienced woman.

Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson - Buriedfed - I really like the way the music and the background chorus builds as the song progresses.

I'm digging Pomplamoose-- reminds me of Kutiman's Thru You project.

Pomplamoose's "videosongs" was one of my top three albums of last year. Great stuff. The new track they uploaded this week is one of their best, as well.

High Wide and Handsome - Loudon Wainwright III. Great song from a great tribute album to Charlie Poole.

I'm a sucker for melodic banjo lines.

Band: Bishop Allen
Song: Rooftop Brawl

Hey, I'm going to their show next week.

lol i have that album...

I've rediscovered The Waterboys again after going through some old CDs... I love these guys!

You must be located in Chicago.

I wish I lived in a city that bands still actually visited. Its been slim pickings in the Detroit area for the last 5 years or so. Boo!

Band: Ramona Falls
Song: I Say Fever

Awesome. Odd Blood has been on repeat for me all week so far, that's a great album.
