Killing Floor Catch-All

I played Killing Floor with my girlfriend on our LAN for just under 2 hours last night. We did not experience any of the connection issues that other players appear to have encountered. The game’s graphics were better than I was expecting. I can still appreciate the graphics of a game using a “heavily modified Unreal Engine 2.5.” The in-game menus are functional but would probably make an interesting subject for a usability study. The use of a red text font can make for difficult reading on some backgrounds (most noticeably during pre-game chat). The voice acting does not really bother me but I feel like it could have been an opportunity for injecting a bit more personality into the game (e.g. the situational dialog in Left 4 Dead). The lack of a fixed targeting reticle might be an issue for some but I prefer iron sights in my games. In all honesty I was not initially hooked by this game as I had been with Red Orchestra and Left 4 Dead. However, my girlfriend and I had fun playing Killing Floor after we straightened out some our mouse sensitivity and microphone issues. I will have to play it a bit more to come to a conclusion on whether or not I would recommend it (with or without caveats) to others.

This game is pretty cool, I've been playing with another friend on a few servers and having a cracking time chopping up monsters.

I'll visit sometime

The first impression of this game was there needs polish. I do agree that left 4 dead is a much "better" game, but Killing Floor has things that L4D doesn't, like more weapons, a level system and a money system (kind of feels like counterstrike).

I think it is worth the $20 if you can find a good group to play with. I haven't played online yet, but I think if we can get a few dedicated servers up we won't need to use the game explorer interface.

Personally I think L4D would be a better game if it dropped the "crescendo events" and instead was about racing from point A to point B. Killing Floor takes the last stand concept and has a lot more fun with it because for every stronghold you set up you've always got to have a plan B to fall back on because eventually you'll get overrun. I'm sure in a few weeks people will have cheesed the game and found out the perfect setup spot to plug away at the oncoming horde without retaliation but so far the game is really frantic and the wide variety of maps have a good roundabout design to them that both constrains your movements but also gives you room to run. I'll agree that it's lacking bells and whistles in stuff like voice acting or setting but I'd also say that not much fluff is needed because the game itself has a lot to offer.

By the way if you've got a few matches under your belt look for servers running normal mode because beginner doesn't do the game justice. On normal you'll have to be mobile if you want to survive.

I've been running Normal, Long games (10 waves) and with friendly fire on (but on a low %). This has caused a pretty good atmosphere imo and is a fine balance between all out chaos and controlled fire. If we can get enough people playing from the different forums, I'll leave the password up so we have a greater chance that you guys can get on. I took it off for now because I didnt' like the idea of nobody being able to use it at all

Is anyone playing this anymore?

Yeah talk about the game kind of dropped off.

I play it all the time, but I have yet to play a single game with another human, as only Europeans appear to play it, and I can't handle that kind of ping.

Haha, for one second I thought you were accusing Europeans of not being human.

Set up an event if you want and I'll definitely get in on it. I pre-ordered this game and haven't so much as run it once.

I still play this game from time to time, I'll play if anybody.

I've played a couple of times (solo) and every time, the game crashes after a couple minutes (< 5). Those couple of minutes are kinda cool.

No, no, you're thinking of Canadians.

I don't have the game as of yet...I was just gauging the level of interest to see if I should pick it up. It seemed like it was a pretty good game in concept but then I hadn't heard even a peep a couple of weeks after release so I wanted to see if it followed through with some great execution.

This is on sale 9.99 this holiday and it is fun a game.

I have 2 guest passes if anyone wants to try it out.

I keep forgetting about this one. I'll probably pick it up soon, if only to show some support for tripwire.

played a few rounds on random servers online (definately use steam's server browser, because the default one is terrible) and had decent fun. Solo mode is complete balls, but once you go online the game changes drastically. Team work emerges in the way it does in TF2 in that you select your class and generally play to it. I was medic on the 5 games I played and people were really relying on me to keep them healed up. I had to limit my loadout to keep myself fast so I could get to everyone when they needed. However I like the flexibility allowed to where I could grab the grenade launcher, assault rifles, and heavy combat armor even as the medic "class".

oh and I have a guest pass if anyone is wanting to try this.

Killing Floor is one of today's special Steam deals. Just $4.99!

I'll dip, I had a great time with the free weekend two months ago.

I picked this up with the sale, so I'm up for checking out the co-op.

I run a server if you guys ever want to use that. It's all the vanilla levels, Medium difficulty.

I also just picked this up and would be interested in some co-op. Steam ID is at the bottom. Friend me up!

I'd also be interested in joining you guys for some co-op.

I'm running a server with a few of my RL friends, but you guys are more than welcome to join. We usually play hard difficulty with long waves, though lately we've been toning it down so the newer players can get used to the game.

Had a blast tonight with Taidaan and Mr Popov, at first we were playing on a very difficult level, but later on tried the easiest difficulty and got some well deserved closure after killing the Patriarch. Let's try to set up a game night, there seems to be enough people playing it here.

yea there is a ton of fun to be had here for $5, sadly though none of it is in the solo mode. At least in my experience this is really a MP only game.

Well, I've been playing this to no end last couple of days. Me, Mr Popov and his friend Pacodeth (not sure if he's on this board) we've been having a great time on normal difficulty, I think we can safely move up to a harder setting, but I'd like to invite those of you who have recently purchased to join us, there's a "friend" tab on the in-game server listing that really helps finding the game your contacts are playing when you log in, so next time you see me playing it on steam hop on and join the zombie carnage.

PS: Bring Money

Sorry for the double post, but this deserves to be plugged in the interest of getting some good games going with the gwj crowd:
The Killing Floor GWJ Steam Group has been created, it is invite-only for now, but I'll make it public later on if it turns big enough (Not sure how to handle that at this point, never managed a steam group before) Hope this helps us get those of us playing this actively to get together more easily, anyone interested in joining send me a pm or a steam IM. I also have 2 invites to try the game, let me know if you want one.

Edit: Once again, KF is on sale on steam for 3.75$ for the next 10 hours! you can't miss it now.

I'm in for some co-op with you dudes.
