The Pile Hung Around; Did You?

Pages

Welcome to 2010! It's been three months since the last one of these, but Steam, Direct2Drive, Impulse and GamersGate have made it extremely easy to increase the size of your pile of shame. The last two weeks have been great from a "looking to pick up some games at a great discount." but it's been hell on the pile. I think mine may collapse due to structural instability.

A quick reminder, in order to be considered "Pile of Shame" the game needs to be at least three months old. Otherwise, it's just a new game you haven't gotten to playing yet.

Let's get on to the games!

This month's Pick of the Pile is

Batman: Arkham Asylum

"Batman: Arkham Asylum exposes players to a unique, dark and atmospheric adventure that takes them to the depths of Arkham Asylum - Gotham's psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane. Gamers will move in the shadows, instigate fear amongst their enemies and confront The Joker and Gotham City's most notorious villains who have taken over the asylum.

Using a wide range of Batman's gadgets and abilities, players will become the invisible predator and attempt to foil The Joker's demented scheme.

Batman: Arkham Asylum features an original story penned exclusively for the game by famous Batman author and five-time Emmy award winner Paul Dini, whose credits include Lost season one and Batman: The Animated Series." (Official Site)

I'm starting off 2010 bold! I'm going to go with one on PC and one on the original Xbox. Hitman: Blood Money on PC, and X-Men: Legends for the Xbox.

Stupid Steam sale!

Um... GTA4? Been considering redoing Batman on Hard to get 100% achievements.

My pile is quite extensive, but put me down for SWAT 4 and Jade Empire. Small bites may go a long way to clearing these games...

PC - Mirror's Edge, Bioshock, Saint's Row 2

Man, I feel awful. FF12 has been sitting on top of my pile for how long now? Sadly, I still haven't gotten around to it. First it was Forza 3. Then it was Dragon Age. Now TF2 has me going again.

So, once again, I thrust into FF12, with the hopes that maybe I'll have beaten it before 13 comes out.

PC: The Witcher and Farcry 2

I have to finish my games of MGS4, Persona 4 and Dragon Quest 4.

If you don't see your game listed under your platform of choice, please check under Multi-Platform.

List should be current.

I totally finished the hell out of Assassin's Creed a couple of days ago (so I could move on to the second game - which is freakin' awesome by the way) so technically I'm considering myself guilt free on the pile o shame front this month

However, since I'm on a roll (and since I'm off work untill the 11th), once I'm through AC2 it's on to Uncharted 2, so I guess that'll be next on the list.

Persona 4 on the PS2, and dear old Mass Effect on the XBox 360. Oh, the shame...

Finished up Half Life 2 this evening, 3 hours before 2009 ended. So I'm carrying over Episodes One and Two for January.

I am trying to get through Batman on Hard myself. It might be because I'm not the best at video games, but I find "Hard" to be an apt designation.

Hmm. I'm still choking my way through end-of-the-year purchases, and with my birthday in the first week of the new year, there's a good chance (hopefully ) that I might get some more choice nuggets of gaming.

I'll put Batman on the pile, for finishing the Riddler collectables and challenge levels, and Red Faction, which was the fruits of the Goodjer Secret Santa. There's more that will probably be on my Pile for the next six months until I chip them down into submission, but I'm going to save them for Feb's Pile.

Games that I want to get through.

Last Remnant I'm enjoying, just hope I can stick with it for the 40-60 hours needed to give it a decent playthrough.
Jade Empire: Another big RPG. I'll try and get to it after Last Remnant.

I have a lot more I've bought from the Steam sales lately though... too many to think about... hmmm... Red Faction Guerilla would probably be one I would like to play through once, get my $10 for, and remove from the PC and the list though.

Edit: I see Drakensang is getting a prequel in 2010, I got that from D2D a while ago, should probably give that a go as well... ergh, too many.

It's close, at 2.5 months old, but I'll let it slide.

Rest of the list should be current.

I have an enormous backlog that simply has to go. My goal will be to finish every game with a definite start and end before I am allowed to purchase myself a new PC. Games that I finish and love I'll get trophies. Games that I finish and enjoy but don't wish to replay will be sold. Games that are just horribly annoying and fall short of whats important (fun) will be discarded.

I pick Lair as the first game on the pile of shame. Supposedly it is much better after the control patch, so lets find out!

I plan to hit 50 in Borderlands and play through the DLC. (though I suppose this may not qualify as 3 months old quite yet, it is something I want to clear off my plate before Mass Effect 2 hits)

I plan to replay Batman: AA on Hard and finish off the remaining achievements.

I plan on playing through the story in Afro Samurai.

And finally, I hope to finish off a 2nd playthrough of Mass Effect before the sequel arrives.

Ah, how ambitious we are in the new year.

I'll pick something... maybe.

Too many ruddy games at this point

Eh, I let Uncharted 2 slide, I'll let Borderlands slide too.

I failed last month's pile. There was too much going on during the holiday season. :/

Hmm... I'll jump in the Batman: AA group this time. Good luck, everyone!

Uncharted 2 is not making a good first impression. I assume the actual game *will* make a good impression, I just haven't gotten that far yet since I've been downloading A FREAKIN' 118 MB patch for the last half-hour and I'm only at 54%!!! And this is AFTER downloading 20 minutes worth of system updates for the PS3 intself.

Now I remember why I never switch the stupid thing on other than to play bluerays.

Ouch

I will join AnimeJ in FFXII. I was about halfway through the last time I played it, but that's so long ago I deleted all my save files and started from scratch. I will keep it to just one game for now, and we will see how we get on. If, by some miracle, I get it done, I will decide what else to play. At least I have plenty of choice: my Pile of Shame is now so large it has its own gravity field, and can be seen on photos taken from space.

If you will count Torchlight and Kingdom Hearts 358/2, then add them (PC and DS, respectively), along with Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2 for English), and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess... SNES and Wii for their systems.

Eh, everything else from October is getting a pass...

List is updated.

I skimmed a bit but I have to ask. English is my second language.

Is there something grammatically wrong with that thread's title?

Probably. Might need a colon and not a comma.

The pile hung around. Did you?

The pile hung around: did you?

Edit - online grammar checker doesn't find anything wrong with the original.

Hm. Hard to tell what I'm playing this month. I have a shiny new PS3, and have managed to resist the steam sale pile, but still have a bunch of games to play. Right now I'm planning on playing The Void, but that's not a pile game. (Hemi's way too generous letting October games slide!) I'm also definitely getting Bayonetta. For now, put me down for Flower - we'll see where we go from there.

It's tempting to put something on here, but I'm fairly sure that I'm going to play little other than Dragon Age this month. February will be Steam sale game month though:)

That didn't take long...finished up Half Life 2, Episode One this morning. Really enjoyable 4 hour ride. I gotta say that Half Life 2 and its episodes have already found a place amongst my all time favorite FPS games. I'm no shooter fanatic, but these are just really fun, well paced, enjoyable games. And the graphics, for being 4-5 years old (in HL2 case), really hold up. Gotta say, the 20 bucks I spent on the orange box at target is easily the best 20 bucks I've spent on a game in a while. On to Episode 2...and if it's as short as episode 1, should be done before football starts tomorrow.
