Mid-Atlantic and Southern Storm

I did the beer run first thing this morning. I know better.

Live south of Boston here.. forecasting 10-15 inches.. which I think of as a blind man's estimate by eyeball considering how historically bad the Boston meterologists are at accurately forecasting Nor'easter snowfall amounts.

And Robear, that chair in the parking spot makes me think you have a Boston transplant living in your complex. You should see all the crap they use around here to save spots.

Oh crud! How bad is it in the PA area? I am going to be driving home from Rochester NY to Gaithersburg MD, and my car is definitely not winter ready...

Maybe I should delay the trip, the storm should pass soon right?

This storm is coming right at the middle of final exams for me....all things considered I think I'm getting off easy.

I'm in Fairfax..

A yardstick stuck in the pile on the floor of the deck.. at 2PM. Reading 16 inches.

Not exactly lake effect snow, but I think this might be the most snow (at once) I'll have to deal with in my lifetime. I am knocking on wood.

We're at 13" on the deck, but walking around there's more. Lots of drifting too.

so I wonder how many people I heard on the highway earlier were making beer runs.

We're at 15 inches and it's still coming down medium-hard. My wife got to Newport News OK, thank goodness: thanks for any happy thoughts sent her way.

Nothing here yet in Connecticut. I could have sworn they said it would start by now. It does look like it COULD be starting any minute but who knows. Not sure what the forecast is because everyone keeps changing their minds. Based on what you guys have posted I would say more than a "slight dusting" is most likely

No beer in the house for me. Fortunately I have 3 different kind of whiskey, spiced rum, kaluah, and brandy stocked. Unfortunately all I have to mix/chase it with is koolaid or orange juice, and I guess cocoa. maybe I could make a hard cocoa with the kaluah...

I just shoveled my driveway in Alexandria, and a neighbor walked by with a measuring tape. He counted over 18 inches, 25 inches at some points where there are drifts.

17 inches now, still coming down. The roads that were cleared will ice up tonight.

I'm in NJ and we have about 7 inches so far with it predicted to get worse overnight.

Nothing accumulated here.

Well, god damn it, one of my dogs fell into my pond. It wasn't all that dangerous really, she didn't break the ice, but because the pond lies in a hollow and the banks of snow surrounding it, she couldn't climb out. There was a couple of inches of slurry above the ice layer, so her paws got pretty chilled. I don't know how long she was there, but I think it was only for a few minutes. She doesn't seem worse for wear, but she now stinks of pond-water. Maybe I'll take a picture tomorrow, didn't think of taking any today and now it is getting dark.

A little bit of snow and you guys get all flustered, a foot is about when we start saying it snowed some last night here in Minnesota. Heck we might even break out the plows for that little if it's been a slow year.

It's cool to see so many people from the area posting. It's a little late to schedule Blizzard-Con DC - 2009, but a slap & tickle may be worth putting together after the holidays.

I would love it if that s&t came to a move 'central Virginia' type location, but please don't look to this small house of horrible planners for it. I don't think there's enough of us around here to justify it, though.

That would be pretty cool. Once the holidays are over, let's talk about getting some folks together...

My heart goes out to you poor bastards who don't have snowblowers. Shoveling 20" of the heavy wet snow is NASTY!

That's what my kids were whining about today. Darn kids, it's just a little snow, now let daddy get back to his vodka tonic...

Also, it's still snowing here. I haven't measured in a bit, but the snow has drifted on my deck about 6 inches above the bottom of my window that looks out on the deck. (I hope that makes sense).

Have you heard from the wife Nightmare?

My car is gone.

All that's left, is a six to seven ft. high mound of snow, where I parked it last night. There might still be an inch, or two, of windshield wiper poking out, but I cant see it from my apt. window.

EDIT: And it's still snowing

19 inches now. 3-5 more expected by morning.

I've been digging out all day. Our cars look like they are old WW2 aircraft surrounded by walls of sandbags. The mound of snow around them forms a U that is about 5 feet high.

Jeebus Robear, that's insane. And we're only tipped for 5-8 inches here in the Hudson Valley, possibly marking the first time in recent memory that we're going to get outsnowed by the NY/Metro area.

Crap. I was supposed to be in NYC tonight, but flight was cancelled, and i'm not optimistic about flights tomorrow into Kennedy.

Looks like the snow has stopped here in Sterling. But the radar shows us as in a pocket. I think we're going to get hit again before the night is over.

Southeastern CT here - they're forecasting 14+ inches for us before it's over. Luckily we're home, warm, fed, boozed (well, the Mrs. and I), and internetted.

Wife and I learned how to play a new card game, Odin's Ravens, and also opened up some wine and scotch. TV is turned off, not a damn thing on to watch anyway. Tomorrow will be a Female Doggo, but I plan to try the WD-40 on the shovel trick!

Braveheart style snowball fight, in the middle of DC.

There's a bunch more on YouTube, filmed from different angles.

This area was forecast for 6-12".. we have... 1/2" ! and it's over..

About a foot, foot and a half in NYC. We were long overdue for a good snowdump here.

22 inches is the official result in Columbia, MD.

It's all fun and games until a cop starts waving around a gun.

The NYNJPA says to expect delays well into this evening.
