Left 4 Dead 2 Catch All

You were our MVP of Dead Center last night :)

First, I want to point out that I only did the first charge. I know this because we had long discussions on our team about who had and hadn't saved your asses with a charge. It was unbelievably annoying.

Group Player of the Week

Just trying to get us more people to kill.

So, on the topic of old rules discussed for L4D1… tank jumping.

For the record, I don’t think we should limit ourselves in-game and happy that tank can now attack survivors in finale. I just avoided it because others were so upset about it. Same goes for jumping over tank swipes. I actually think it’s pretty neat, takes skill to avoid the tank swipe, and would love to practice it.

I bring last night someone was able to effectively tank jump most of my swipes, until I killed him and ended the match. I actually was impressed with his ability to avoid swipes so this isn’t a dig on him—but I want to know where we are on this as a group so it can influence how I play the game in the future (whether I use these as well).

Yo.

Bah, that was you? Every time you spat you were able to duck back onto the roof or behind the wall half a second before we gunned you down. It was incredibly annoying.

So, this sounds like it is a reasonable use of in-game mechanics and not an exploit (that is, the survivor is not invulnerable on jumps, it's just that the hit-location is good enough that with proper timing and placement one can reasonably avoid an attack). If so, then it seems no different then side-stepping a Charger run or shooting a Smoker before they pull you off your feet. Sounds like it should be allowed.

(and this from someone who can't seem to hit with a charge more than 10% of the time lately, so tank punch-jumping is surely going to work well against me).

BTW - my apologies to Lars, Podunk and (reluctantly) Camnipotent last night. After my utter debacle of play I just cut and ran in shame once we returned to lobby. I was quite annoyed with myself and hope I didn't seem like an even bigger jerk than usual when I dropped as soon as the game ended.

Never did find that pistol. Sorry to disappoint, Cam.

Also, Thanks to Tamren, Wired, and Kazar for playing with me in a vs match against my brother. I don't remember what the final score was be the point is we won. Sorry that no formal invite went out, just sort of worked out this way. But apparently the real friends he wanted to play against us with will only play on servers they have admin rights to.

That was fun, it was a close game too, every time I thought they had us and were ready to rally to a point lead we would crush them right before they got the extra points to take the lead.

Good group of kids too.

i had a blast playing vs last night. I also can't wait for the DLC to be released. I'm just worried about Nathanial's weird zoey fetish.....

I never play with pubs. Ever. You all also know that if a name I don't recognize shows up I'll ask who they are and if they're just a friend of a Goodjer, I'll sometimes ask them to team up. It's not that I hate and distrust new people. It's just that one too many times someone has invited a random friend or relative into a game, they've ended up on the other team (my team) and they've been absolutely terrible. At that point it's like they're saying, "we're going to fill this slot with a pubby and they get to be your problem." I feel like an elitist but I enjoy what I enjoy, and when someone is silent or obnoxious and doesn't make up for it with ultimate godly skill, I'm not crazy about that.

Also all that's right out the window if someone has a GWJ tag. Then they're cool. It's not lost on me that putting on the tag is basically all you need to do to officially "join" GWJ. So, make sense of that if you like, and if you figure it out let me know.

Bringing up that "elitism" thing again, as GWJ has gotten bigger and more popular, the feel of the community has started to change. Some of our new players and members, I love playing with. They're skilled, or they're a lot of fun to talk to, or sometimes even both. Some really feel like pubbies who have just gravitated toward us, and while they might like our friendlier, more mature style they don't necessarily mesh very well. Some of you may remember Doug from CP who got rather attached to us a while back. While I have absolutely nothing against him and I think he's a good kid, I think we all tacitly concluded he was not really GWJ material at that stage in his life.

I'm also well aware that some GWJers aren't crazy about me either. However, I've been around a long time and I have a tag, so too bad. It's not like I play as much as I ought to (and want to) either.

Double-edged sword of success, I guess. Anyway, welcome newcomers, please don't be afraid of my harsh judgment, everyone gets a fair shake. I'm sorry if I've offended anyone with my intense, egotistical elitism.

I'd also like to make it totally clear that if I turn down an invite it is NOT because I hate you and don't want to play with you. I know I've been blowing off demonbox and Psych quite a bit lately and I have nothing against either of them (except that demonbox used "you're" incorrectly recently and I won't be playing with him till he apologizes!). I've just got a lot going on lately and don't always have 2 hours to give my undivided attention to anything. I'm usually up for some Scavenger so let me know if that's what's on tap when you send the invite.

LobsterMobster wrote:

Actually, no one likes you. They're just being nice to you to get to your mom.

The real momma joke in there was "your mom is silent and obnoxious but she is still worth it."

Hmm, although that may have gone too far. I suppose we will find out when Certis bans me.

I agree with what demonbox said and I also want to add that we should be able to do it so we have an option besides just running in a straight line hoping no common infected slow us down.

I remember when I added the tag to gain your trust, even after we had already played 2 games of L4D1 together. You even turned me to your elitist ways because I've started telling new people to add the tag because "it lets us know you're legit".

That is why I dont use the tag. I just want to be a pubby.

Maybe that's why the vote kick passed?!

Yo.

That was actually me. I was a little surprised I was able to dodge so many of the attacks. I knew there was no way I was going to be able to outrun you since I was low on health. The only thing I could think to do was jump dodge and shoot, hoping you were low on health.

But yeah, I don't think we should limit people from doing it. It's not really the easiest thing to pull off. And all the tank has to do is throw a rock instead. There really is no great way to dodge a well place rock throw.

Bill_Lewis, I have to admit that the first game I played with you I told my team that you were a jerk (not very seriously). You were playing as Francis and I thought that you had chosen the name specifically for that game so that it would cause confusion when we tried to communicate who to focus on or who had strayed from the team.

Eventually I realized that that was your name all the time.

FIFY

On the topic of "tank jumping," I think we discussed this in L4D1 and concluded it was not a big issue. It may be worth revisiting now that the survivors have so many new ways of dealing with tanks. More than once I've been totally blinded by a bile bomb and then slaughtered as I smacked innocent zombies across the map. It's also not that difficult to get behind a tank with a melee weapon, which can do tremendous damage without much indication to the tank that they're being torn to shreds beyond a plummeting health bar.

I once made a comment to Bill_Lewis about Zoe Francis and he didn't quite get it.

Also, you guys are all great. Like, everyone that I play with.

I'm the same way, I hope no one has felt like I don't want to play with them. I don't take it personally when people don't join from my invites, I hope others feel the same.

You will continue to receive spam invites from me. That goes for all of you. I don't care how late it is, if you're in game or whatever. If you don't join so what someone else will take your spot.

Haha. I know, I should have changed it once L4D1 game out. But all the people I was playing with at that time were real life friends who got the inside joke. But once you guys actually started sending me friend invites I thought "oh crap, my name is making every one hate me but if I change it they'll see it on their friends list and not realize who I am and wont invite me to play their games". Oh what a naive and insecure Coffee Grinder I was. Now, over a year later I'm just a regular Coffee Grinder who has realized I'll always get invited to L4D by people who want someone to beat up on.

Except me, right? (Hyetal)

Because that would be really awkward. I might start thinking you like me or something. Which I think would be awkward. I think for everyone.

To conclude my thinking and add a less flippant side-note: I can't believe I registered to this site almost four years ago. I've always listened to the podcast(s), sometimes commented on them and the front page articles, but I think (there I go again) I've only posted in the forums -- four times? Though clearly this has been a good thing for you people, I seem to have missed out on a pretty handsome and wonderful little community. I've even put the GWJ tag in front of my steam name, because that's who I find myself playing with most of the time.

That really wasn't much of an end to thinking.

Sorry about that.

Again, I'm known as Hyetal on Steam. And I know, my choice of nickname for this particular site is a bit cringe-worthy. I considered making a new account, but I'd lose my pretty key.

I had a weird thing happen last night on the bridge finale of The Parish. It was during the vs. game with Prozac, Yonder, Psych, AP Erebus and others. I was the last standing Survivor during the tank attack. I got hit near the edge of the bridge and somehow it registered as an incap. The end of round screen came up, but then a funny thing happened. I was able to stand back up. Heck, I was able to get to one of my incapped teammates and get them up before the round ended.

Anyone else every have that happen? I think it was something weird about how the tank smashed me into the girders on the bridge. I think I kind of "popped" up. Either way, it was weird and slightly disappointing since the round ended when I was clearly up and functioning.

Come to think of it, that round was also weird for another reason. Playing as Infected, I somehow managed to smoke someone right at the same instant they were charged. My tongue was stretched clear across the screen. It was actually pretty danged funny to see my tongue zip across the screen as the Charger carried my prey.

OG_slinger wrote:

Actually, yeah, that exact thing happened to us during our Parish round last night as well. Weird.
