Final Fantasy XIII Catch-All

Any idea on which platform did Famitsu review FFXIII?

PS3. There is no 360 version in Japan.

They do have the 360 in Japan, it's just the kanji used to spell Xbox 360 very strongly resembles that for, "Warning: This Electronic Device Contains 360 Angry, Poisonous Spiders Who Are Also Wind Ghosts."

I see... ok, thx, I'm off to crawl back under a rock!

how did ffxii get a perfect score, id much rather play X again. either way FFXIII is a day 1 buy for me, even a mediocre final fantasy game to me is a great experience.

By getting four 10's? It's my favorite of the series, having very thoroughly (most sidequests completed) played VI, VII, IX, X, X-2, and XII.

By the way, welcome to GWJ; don't forget to read the code of conduct when you can.

If that weren't so long I'd sig it. Maybe I'll just get it tattooed on my back instead.

Really? For not capitalizing FFXII?

Yes, really. Welcome.

I was trying to be politely oblique by mentioning it in passing, but you didn't capitalize the first words of your sentences, and you spelled "I'd" as "id." It's really not a big deal. You obviously are intelligent and rational (and have pretty good taste in games, in my opinion). However, one of the nice things about these forums is that we all put in a little extra effort to make our posts legible; proper capitalization, punctuation, and (to the best of our abilities) grammar makes our posts easier to read.

Lest I seem passive-aggressive or unwelcoming, let me instead ask, as a favor to me personally, that you indulge my lazy eyes with proper capitalization and punctuation. I will not complain or even mention it again should you choose to ignore my request; and either way I look forward to further discourse on the subject of how best to spend our leisure time.

I totally love the discordance between this post and your tag

GWJ is more rigid than any other message board I've seen when it comes to policing grammar and spelling, but I kinda dig it. Put it this way: you're wasting work time posting on a game message board, but at least you're training yourself to write properly, even in an informal context, along the way.

I could probably come up with a shorter version if you really love it that much. Anything to indulge my ego.

I guess the part that bothered me was the condescending manner of answering my rhetorical question of "How did it get a perfect score", then following that statement up with the code of conduct. Came off as a bit elitist, that's all.

Final Fantasy 6 got like a 36, and considering that's my favoritest game evar, well, a 39 ain't too bad. Will I buy it? Maybe someday. We'll see how things go - maybe I'll be done with my 3rd Dragon Age play-through by then!

Does someone in the game marry their cousin?

How have we gone a whole page without someone commenting on the fact that Nintendogs got a perfect score while FFXIII did not?

Goths are both nonconfrontational and elitist, right? No, wait what I mean is, "as a five hundred year old vampire of the Ventrue clan, I have learned the art of patience with neophytes." Or something.

Anyway, I thought my answer was funny, and it came off as being a jerk. Maybe it was both, and I'm sorry for the latter if so. Scores, like tastes, are going to be kind of subjective; Final Fantasy XII seems as deserving of a perfect score as Ocarina of Time in my mind, and I guess four people who happen to have a job that matters agree with me. I sure don't know how Nintendogs gets a perfect score (even judged by very different criteria) or how the Steelers just lost to the Browns, but sometimes the stars just align, eh?

And along those lines, how the Patriots are rated 92+ in Madden 10 this year....

No harm no foul, I am just as sarcastic as the next person, just not used to using proper grammar on an internet forum.

Oh, sure you are.

Teen1: Oh, here comes that cannonball guy. He's cool.
Teen2: Are you being sarcastic, dude?
Teen1: I don't even know anymore.

Wow, FF6 only got a 36? That makes me cry.

I would have to wonder about FF12 being perfect as well. I have played all of them and been a fan for years. FF 12 just did not call to me. I guess its a little "whatever tickles your pickle".

QUESTION!

Should I save up and puy a ps3 for this or be satisfied with my 360 version? Keep in mind that there are other titles I'd play on ps3 but I figured a 360 was enough.

Probably too early to tell. It seems pretty obvious that they are developing with PS3 as their target, and porting to 360 afterwards. (Some developers do it the other way, or target PC first; some try to develop simultaneously, usually using some kind of cross-platform engine.) I am inclined to believe the PS3 version will be superior because of this; but just how superior, who knows? Superior enough to justify buying a new console?... even if we knew how well they managed the port, that's still a question of how much money you have and how much other use you would get out of the PS3 with its exclusives, Blu-Ray, etc.

Personally, I have usually found the 360 version of games I like to be the superior one, unless the developers took a lot of time and added extra content to the PS3 version. (Examples of extra content in the PS3 release include Eternal Sonata, Star Ocean 4, and Tales of Vesperia; so if you're a JRPG man...) On the other hand, they are close enough (and I get enough other use out of my PS3) that if I went down to one console the PS3 would be it.

How's that for a non-answer?

If it's for me I believe it would have to say "If you're reading this you're doing it wrong."

And slightly back on topic... I haven't played any FF games since FFX though I used to consider myself a Square fanboy. I even made myself like their movies. I noticed they released a FFX-2, one of their first true sequels (aside from Gameboy titles) that I'd noticed. Just to play catch-up, FFXI was MMO only, right? Then FFXII was a regular ol' FF game? Any story continuation in any of those or are they back to the "new world, new characters for every game" style?

No, they are back to the "new world, new characters for every game" style.

FWIW the engine they developed the game on is non-platform-specific. Technically the game is being "ported" to every system it will be released on (360 and PS3 currently; maybe they'll surprise us all with a PC release later on).

Final Fantasy has always had a special place in my heart, and I always try to find an rpg to play through during my Christmas holidays, I wish this was out right now. I haven't looked at any gameplay videos or previews or anything other than this thread, but it will be a "day one" purchase for me, sight unseen. As it is single player only, I'll probably be getting it on PS3.
