1 vs. 100 (Xbox 360) Catch-All

7 points from first place in the crowd, and some dipsh*t knocks on my door selling magazines, causing me to miss the next few questions. Not interested. Why not? Because you started this conversation saying "I'm not just some kid spending his time playing video games" while talking to a man holding a goddamn 360 controller with an earpiece in plain view.

Also, I don't know most of the people on my street because they're dicks. Using their first names like you're on a chummy level with them just confuses me. Who the f*ck is Michelle? You mean scowly-single-mom-of-four? Oh great, asshole, now I'm not going to win Ikaruga. Get the f*ck out of here with your scooter.

Now my wife's mad that I opened the door after dark to a potential crackhead and risked our lives. I just got free accident forgiveness this morning from my car insurance company. He'd better pray I don't see him on his scooter anytime soon.

I need to start answering the door pantsless. We're counting the days until we can move anyway.

Gah, was waiting for you to finish your video! You missed a most glorious train wreck.

Dammit! If there's one thing I love, it's proverbial trainwrecks. I opened Heineken to prepare for button-pressing fun, but apparently it was full of sleep-juice. Grrrr

TWELVE STRAIGHT PEOPLE. Twelve. No wins. Astonishing.

I played a bit of Extended Play afterwards, and got in touching distance of the top ten three times (even got to #1 once), before the crushing death of the final 5-8 questions laid me low. Arrgh.

That was a great time last night, guys. Those live games are so much fun. My personal favorite was the guy who was in first place nearly every round, and as soon as he's the one, he uses all his helps on the first three questions and gets the fourth one wrong.

That one was hilarious. I think he was using the million monkeys on a million typewriters method when he was in the crowd.

Top fun, gentlemen. To be continuned!

Stop rubbing it in! Damn you, sleepiness! Damn you!

Sounds like Skeleton has AngryPanties.

I doubt it. I can't imagine falling asleep wearing underscrats made of anger.

Anyone planning on playing tonight? I'm kinda tired, but I could go for a couple hours of low key trivia fun.

I should hopefully be on, going for yet another turn in the mob.

I'll be on, i'm reasonably sure, assuming X-Com doesn't get too involving.

Four times last night I was in 4th place at some point. First time was at the end of a round, 1 point from third place, and two points from first or second. Every other time, I got up to 4th, then would lose it on some stupid sports question. Guess I have to start paying attention to sports now. My friend Rob from work and I both missed one that asked something like "What stage lighting term also means you're under close public scrutiny?". We both thought it was Spotlight, and picked B when it was neither of the first two answers. Turned out to be "Limelight" (X), so I missed out on another chance at Portal: Still Alive. Dammit.

On the other hand, I think I set a record for number of spins a 360 controller can make in the air when thrown in disgust. How it wound up behind my chair when I threw it to my right, I don't know. Backspin, maybe?

Did anyone else have trouble getting in to any games last night? I tried to jump in to math and science, but it never stopped loading.

I'm guessing that XBL is getting that post-Christmas hammering right now. I had a couple of Madden games drop the last two days, as well. It's not nearly as bad as a couple of years ago, when it seemed like the entire server went kaput. Once the kids go back to school, it should improve.

This happens. Tonight. Tremble in fear of skeletonframes' mighty, button-smooshing thumb.

All I wanna know is...

who's comin' with me?

Breander and I have been playing this the last few times its on and it seems like you have to be one of the top scorers to be the one. Is that the same for the mob?

It's a combination of things, including your past performance. I was in the mob once last season and I'm pretty sure I've never been in the top-10 at the end of a round.

They base it on either your previous round, weekly, or seasonal score, I believe. Not sure how random it is, but about every 3 rounds, the #1 player from the last round will be The One, and the next 100 will be in the Mob. However, you can only be The One or in the Mob once per season, barring certain exceptions like disconnects. I was in the top 10 last night, but didn't get in the mob because I've already been in it once this season, and the bastard took the money with 7 of us left. If everyone in the crowd has been in the mob, you can get another chance, or if The One disconnects. It's complex, to say the least.

I've actually been in the Mob twice this season, so I'm not sure if they're strict rules. I think I read you can also only win one prize per area (Crowd, Mob, One) per season, which sucks for me, since I already won a game in the crowd, and probably won't be able to get in the Mob again.

I'm pretty sure A Patch Of Blue has won prizes in all 3 areas already. If you watch him on Extended Play, he almost always get 37/37 answers correct, and he's constantly accused of cheating, but he appears to just be incredibly smart, or he's Rainman.

Ah... that's interesting. I got into the Mob last month, and had a panicky flameout on the first question. (I said that swishing liquid around in your mouth was to "gaggle", because it was the first choice. whee!) Have had some nice runs from the Crowd since then, including my first Top 10 breakthrough just last Friday, but haven't been invited back to the stage. Oh well!

That's funny. I was playing with a couple people, on Friday, and someone let out an exasperated, "Aaarrrgh.", when the second answer popped up.

"So, uh, you hit X before you saw the second choice, didn't you?"

"Ergh, YES!"

This game is a lot more fun than it should be.

I'll be on, this Friday, if my day with the ex ends soon enough.

skeletonframes wrote:

It's especially tragic when you do that in the Mob, because for them, survival is far more important than raw score. So it pays to NOT buzz in ASAP but instead wait for all the choices to appear. But it's hard to remember this strategy-change after one is called to the stage...

Alas, I can't play this Friday, but feel free to look for me otherwise. The gf and I try to catch all the live shows we can.

I don't let my friend forget that the 'O' in "HMO" stands for "Oldsmobile", because we both work for a Health Maintenance Oldsmobile. That'll teach him to try and out-answer me.

The season finale is tonight. It will feature badly lip-synced calls from Bungie Studios and Jimmy Fallon. I've had quite a day, so I'm getting some alcohol and would like some fellow trivial gangstas to join me in saying goodbye to this season of 1 vs 100.

Rumor is we'll have to pay a subscription to play, next season.

Anyway, hope to get an 8 man posse together for maximum laugh squad fun time goodness!!!!

I'll try my best to be on tonight. Sold my headset, though.

I guess I'm not eligible for the mob anymore, since I've been in it once, even though I didn't miss any questions while in it. I've won a game in the crowd, too, so my only real shot at winning anything is to be The One. Not going to happen.

I'm most likely in if I can get my wifecare chores completed in good time.

I'm gonna give it a shot to show up tonight. Depends on the wife, really.

I haven't been on this in a while, but tonight seems like as good a night as any to give it another go.

I'm in
