Looks like we missed a Week Ahead while I was out on vacation and attending the GWJ Minnesota meet & greet. We had a great time and I didn't even kill anyone for endlessly talking about World of Warcraft although it was a close thing. Slow summer week for games ahead of us, looks like the Ghost Recon 2 Xbox expansion is our Game of the Week almost by default. The Monday night Ghost Recon crew will ride again! Considering it's a civic holiday here in Canada I think I'm going to go take a post-just-woke-up nap.
On DVD this week we've got Alexander: Director's Cut, Ghostbusters 1 & 2 Gift Set, Thin Man Collection and more!
PC:
Metalheart: Replicants Rampage (08/02)
Xbox:
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2: Summit Strike (08/02)
GBA:
Shaman King: Master of Spirits 2 (08/02)

I wonder if anything interesting is happening with World of Warcraft this week...
Just kidding...although I quit playing WoW back in May I am feeling the siren's call. I will try to resist until winter -- it is an excellent dark, icy winter's night game...
On topic, I wonder when the summer doldrums are going to end? The only game on the horizon I'm mildly excited about is Civ IV...Anyone?

So....Shall we set up Monday Night Ghost Recon for next week?
I had a great time playing the co op missions, and the only reason it kind of died off was that we had played the missions to death. I am looking forward to this one, hopefully the new missions will take us well into the autumn.

Is Alexander even worth renting? Maybe for a laugh?
Credulous at best, your desire to believe in angels in the hearts of men.
Well I was thinking of learning to play the violin, but burning through 30 days straight playing WoW sounds like a reasonable substitution.

Violin should only take a few days, why not just divide up your time?

Or I could learn to play violin in the game! A +3 violin that shoots fire!
Hey, actually that sounds cool as hell. Imagine how something like that would sound. Would it be like the devil's solo maybe? Which, for the record, was way better than Johnny's.

Fletch, are you posting drunk again? :/
Awesome, Ghostbusters. Could someone explain the obsession with The Thin Man series? I guess it was way before my time.

Ya he should still be playing that golden fiddle with Johnny's soul in the bag. And then the nerve of Johnny to taunt him after he won, such class =P

Stay the hell away from Metalheart. I got to try it out, but it broke my brain in less than 5 minutes. The dialog is passably voice acted, seemingly by Americans, but it's chock full of Engrish. I've always been curious as to how exactly that happens anyway, as it seems like anyone with English as a native language would pick up the errors when given the dialog and then you know, fix them.
The game opens with the two main characters crash landing on a backwater planet. Here's a snippet of dialog to let you know what I'm talking about.
After wandering west through the desert, you crawl into a city via a sewerpipe. There's at least 8 identical pipes, all of them interactive, but only one actually lets you inside. Your two characters have a brief discussion about how best to proceed. They decide that the male will be the frontman for the party:
After investigating some locals, I find my way into a shed that contains the mayor of the city. As you can see, he doesn't quite like me, but hey, at least I get a free watch.
In addition to the various people he wants you to go talk to, he also gives you a 6 or 7 digit code to operate the gate out of this little section of the city. None of this goes into your quest journal. You can't scroll back to see previous dialog. Given that, you'd probably assume that you could just walk to gate and automatically enter in the keycode to leave, right? Wrong. You get to enter the long string of random digits from memory, and any missed digit spawns 3 or 4 angry men with machine guns who instantly kill you.
Thus ends my fun filled adventure with Metalhearts.
Nightmare is unhappy. He has complained of the lack of garbage collection lately. He was disgusted by a double pointer. He was disturbed by structs while sleeping.
Wow, Joe. Just...
That was a fun post.
