Recommend me a gaming keyboard

G19 with the G13 sidepad thingamawhizzle is awesome. Combine it with the new Logitech G35 gaming headset and you are in gamer nirvana. I love them. Yes they are pricey, but as far as I am concerned well worth every ducat.

I've got the G19 and the G35, and I am very happy with both of them. I've found that it's too easy to accidentally hit the buttons on the G35 when adjusting the headset though, and I sometimes find I've been accidentally victimizing my L4D teammates with the stupid voices I have the keys bound to. There just aren't very many useful things the G35's G-keys can be set to do.

I can't imagine running the G13 alongside the G19. The G19 already has more programmable keys than I need, I'd never even be able to remember what I set the G13 to do.

So the G35 is now on my list. I need new headphones/mic.

It's probably worth noting that the G35 is $107 on Newegg and $87 after the rebate. Otherwise it's around $100 depending on where you shop.

Check out Amazon to save a few.
Also, I have decided to abandon my speakers in favor of headphones. I prefer doing stuff with the cans, so that's what I'm gonna do.

I would strongly, strongly suggest not buying anything from Logitech related to sound. They sell sh*t products for people who haven't learned what good sound is like.

Does it have to be a headset? Is space an issue?

ok...I've got it out my system, but seriously:

I am happy with the Creative Labs wireless HS-1200.

Its served me not just as a gaming headset, but just a damn good around the house one too.

Hmm guess I'll have to try them out somewhere.
I really have liked previous logitech audio products I've had. Perhaps I am but a gentile in these audio ways.

Speaking for the people who haven't learned what good sound is like, I can tell you that we think the sound quality on the G35 is excellent. I've found myself playing with the headphones on more often because the sound is better than the Yamaha monitors that I normally use.

I have effectively no ability to sense the direction a sound is coming from, yet with the 7.1 enabled on the G35's I've actually found myself correctly identifying directions fairly frequently. That's never been the case with any other headphone or speaker setup I've ever used.

I also thought that the G35 cans are well done. I do agree it is pretty easy to smash the side buttons and inadvertently open Itunes, but I'll live with that.

They are a little pricey, but I got mine about 3 years ago as a gift.

I thought this was illegal in most countries now?

Well she only handles the keyboard.

Arise thread!
I picked up a Razer Lachesis (on sale at BB) and have now decided my keyboard is inadequate.
My gaming box is 64-bit Win7, so whichever keyboard needs to play nicely with it. I have a slight preference for quieter keyboards, but I do tend to hammer on keys so any thoughts on general durability interests me.
Right now I'm considering the Logitech G15 and G19. I think I've heard things about the Saitek Cyborg too. Obviously my price range is all over the place.
Is the general consensus the G19 is worth the extra cash? I'm happy to spend it, but that SSD isn't going to buy itself, and the less money I spend now the sooner I can pick it up.
Are there models any I'm overlooking?
Thanks in advance for the help and advice.

have now decided my keyboard is inadequate.

In what way is it inadequate? That would help for suggestions. Do you just want something with cool features?

I like my G15 mk2 a lot.

Mostly this, yes. It also just feels cheap. I used a nice ergonomic split keyboard back when I still worked in an office (I'm upset with myself for not taking that keyboard with me when they made me remote). The keyboard will be used primarily for gaming, so some nice features would be a plus.

Well, the G15 was pretty comfortable, but I had bad luck with mine; the keyboard cable frayed and broke within about three months. Most people don't seem to have that problem. The macros were nice, and the little screen was surprisingly handy.

Do you have any issues with wrist strain? I've found that soft keyboards like the G15 are exactly the wrong approach. What you want if you have wrist strain is a hard-strike keyboard. You have to ease into it carefully, over a month or two, but it strengthens your muscles, and your wrist pain will slowly disappear.

If you don't have any RSI problems, then a G15 is a good choice. The G19 looks nice, but that's a lot of extra money for a 3" LCD screen.

Has anyone seen a MS sidewinder X4 in the flesh? It's about the right price, but I've read the keys are a bit small and have a large travel to make a keypress, and I currently love my current flatter keyboard.

It seems there's a trend for "compact" keyboards now, with the arrow keys crushed up against the main block of keys.

I'll second the Gen 2 G15. I too had a round of bad luck with my first one, as a bottle of Cherry Dr Pepper blew up all over it, which shorted a few of the keys But the new one has been going strong for a while and I really, really like it.

I've posted a thread on this, but if you don't want an LCD, check out the G110. I like the media and volume buttons much more. Also has USB 2.0 and headphone/mic ports.

Might as well throw in my two cents on the subject in case anybody comes looking through this thread. I've got the Steelseries 7g and really love the beast. They're $150, but well worth it because the quality is hard to beat. They are surprisingly heavy, and once you have it sitting on your desk with the handrest on top, it feels like the keyboard is built into the table. I highly recommend them if you like a more mechanical keyboard (like the old IBM types). Here's a picture:

Has anyone used the Logitech G510?

I will likely pick up a new keyboard this weekend and am currently deciding between the G19 and the G510.
G19 has 2 USB ports built in, but I have a hub on my desk so don't think I would really use the keyboard ports
I am also not sure how I feel about the G19 needing an AC Adapter for additional power. In the end, my concern for the G19 is the price vs features I would use. Is the color LCD screen worth the coin? I really only use it for time/temp information and to see whos talking over Vent if I dont recognize the voice.

The G510 lacks the USB ports, but as mentioned they likely wouldnt be used, but adds in headphone jacks for built in USB audio. I just haven't read much on the keyboard yet and was wondering if anyone here had experience with it.

I own a G15 now. My wifes keyboard recently died and I am handing that one over to her. I like the keyboard, but Im not a fan of the volume and media controls on it (or the red backlighting, I prefer blue if I have a choice).

Any opinions on the G19 vs the G510?

I have a g19. The board can work without the ac adapter. You just need it for the mini monitor and maybe more power for crap you plug into the usb slots. I had it for awhile but just now have been using it for some gaming. The buttons work and it is easy to program. I really like the how the keys change color in different mods. But at the end of the day it is just a keyboard. I have a gaming deck thingy that is more useful but I don't have room for it at the moment. It is a logitech g13. Well anyway when this board dies I'll probably just get a standard keyboard.

Putting this link here because it's got interesting keyboard information: http://www.overclock.net/computer-pe...

Which leads me to a question. What do you all find more important in a 'gaming' keyboard, the keys themselves, or extra features like backlighting, multimedia keys, macro keys, displays, etc.

Keys! Mechanical keyboards just feel nicer.

I haven't used the G510, but I have the G110 and the keys feel great.

As far as what I want for a gaming keyboard, I only want so-called gaming keyboards because of the 'extra' features. Backlighting, media control, and macro keys are all useful for all sorts of non-gaming related stuff.

ARISE THREAD!!!

So my G15 that I bought used from a fellow Goodjer is finally showing it's age and, slowly dying. First some of the numb-pad keys stopped responding (not a big deal, I hardly ever use em); now the LCD has decided not to display anything anymore (big deal to me, as I use it a lot).

It seems the only two choices from Logitech with screens are, the G510 or the G19. Not wanting to drop almost $200(G19) on a keyboard, so I need enabled on the G510(~$100). Or if someone has another G-series that is in good repair that they want to get rid of. Are there any other keyboards out there that have such a versatile screen on them?

I'd just look for a replacement G15.. they can be found in the wild.

I picked up a G510 on a damaged box sell at Logitech, and it's fine. I've still got my G15 for another computer.

I initially liked the feel of the G15 better, but I don't really think about the difference anymore.

Learn to love mechanical.
