Left 4 Dead 2 Catch All

Got this for the 360 (if anyone else actually did, lets be friends)!
Edit: Oops, a new 360 l4d2 thread appeared, I'll take my leave.

Has anyone else had trouble with Steam being stuck in a "Scanning for game updates..." status?

Got through all the campaigns now.

Hard Rain and The Parish are amazing. Totally frickin' awesome.

I let mine sit at that screen overnight and it resolved itself. If you want to get into a different game then you should restart in Off-line mode. Make sure you terminate the steam.exe process in the Task Manager when you do, it tends to linger.

For how long? It sat there like that for a few minutes for me, but eventually it woke up and did a bit of final downloading and, I assume, decrypting. It took ages at work this morning, though - I suspect the servers are being hammered somewhat.

I'm running through the campaigns solo, just so I'm not totally lost when I hop online. I'm liking it quite a bit, and I must say melee weapons are my best friend.

Well, my plan didn't work out. I was going to use our credit card rewards to get some amazon gift cards and thus L4D2, but the ever crushing guilt of sneaking all that behind my wife's back got to me. I caved and told her about the gift cards and we both agreed that they're probably better off helping us reduce the amount of cash we spend on X-mas gifts for people. Therefore I will not be joining the zombie kill fest until after the holidays. I'll most likely get a copy as a X-mas gift from the rents.

boo

We'll do the post-holiday L4D2 thing together - I'm not getting this until around Christmas as well.

We can start a late to the party group and run through all the campaigns.

I got through the first three campaigns this morning with evilseed, Tykl , and Tamren. I'm also in the camp that thinks there's some sort of bug causing the AI not to do anything when you get a jockey on you. I imagine it'll be fixed eventually. Except for attachment to the survivors from the first game, I think this is better in every way than the original. The uncommon commons I've encountered are a nice touch, and I imagine they'll make vs a lot more interesting. The hazmat zombies are a little tougher, fire proof, and usually carry bile bombs (I see them as being more helpful to survivors due to carrying a throwable). The clowns bring a mini-horde with them. The mudmen are sneaky buggers, quick, and they obscure your vision with mud when they hit you. I do with the campaigns were longer, but that's mainly because I had so much fun that I didn't want to move on to the next environment.
The level of gore and the tenacity of the commons is awesome. I love taking off the arms of a zombie, or disembowling it and having it still come after you. It sort of ret-cons a bit of the first game, where the commons were more like 28-Days Later infected: not dead, just hyper-violent and mutating. Now they're more like the zombies from the Dawn of the Dead remake.
I also really like how there's an actual progressing storyline (I really regretted their decision to remove that from L4D). How the survivors come up with different names from the special infected in the first campaign. Ellis calling the jockey a "humper" and Nick calling the Charger a "redneck" are my favorite ones so far. I'll be out of work at 6am, so if anyone's up for doing the last two campaigns then, feel free to join.

Well Steam won't load the game for me. Keeps trying to decrypt files and then freezes or quits back to Steam without doing anything. Over and over. Faaaantastic.

There it goes. I knew a little public humiliation would do the trick.

When I went to decrypt, I had to restart steam because there was a secret update, then when I clicked the game it immediately jumped to 50% done, then didn't apear to move for 15 minutes before it started slowly ticking up.

Anyone else getting dumped out of the game every 2 minutes? The game does the fastest crash back to desktop ever, and I can't figure what it might be. Things I have tried.

All settins on medium.
1 core processing.
V-sync off.
New video driver.
Reinstalling game.
Verifying game files (several times) a few times it found 1 or 2 corrupted files.
Deleting client registry.blob (or whatever the hell that file is).

Not sure what else I can do. Nothing makes a difference.

We just finished the Epic 5 campaign marathon! Thanks to Mogg, Fedora, NatE and Grenn for joining me on the odyssey.

Thanks to my ability to callously leave my friends behind I managed to survive all five campaigns which makes me happy because it means I have achievements that achievement whoring jerk Fedora doesn't have yet

Got an interesting bug. I was about to throw a bile canister when a Jockey jumped on me, it didn't get thrown and a few zombies crowded and started hitting me along with the Jockey humping my head. The REALLY interesting thing is... I became goddamn invincible. I wasn't taking ANY damage at all. Pretty cool glitch.

Edit: YOU'LL GET YOUR'S PROZAC!!!!!

Good god, that roller coaster event is relentless. We had some vets playing and we kept greeting destroyed on advanced. the Carnival finale is the best one I've played so far. Three to go.

Yes, I waited an hour and it resolved itself. I think it was decrypting L4D2 in the background, because when I finally saw my list of games, the decryption was already at 50%.

Pro tip: When standing by a window, don't stand by a window. Chargers do not stop and will gladly free fall with you to your death.

Lesson (re)learned from tonight: never, ever try to be nice to your friends once the rescue vehicle arrives. Your helpful efforts will be scorned, and you will die.

On a totally unrelated note, tomorrow night I'm gonna need a crew to help me survive Dark Carnival and Swamp Fever... um, survive again, I mean.

Haven't tried Vs yet, but having played all 5 campaigns there are some spots tat are going to be Brutal. To the point that I don't think Defibs will break Vs at all, they'll JUST give survivors a chance at making it.

Oh, Cyranix, how are oyu coping with the wandering witches? They freak you out? If anything I think witches are heaps easier to kill now.

Hehe, you came running back to save me and I just went zipping past you on adrenaline. Thanks for distracting the tank, though!

Haven't tried to crown yet. It's not the witches that freak me out, wandering or not -- it's trying to crown them. With the levels being so much more open, I may adopt a more witch-friendly policy of avoidance... unless I happen to be carrying a grenade launcher.

Alright, three campaigns down and I'm already loving this game exponentially more than the first one. The great thing about it is just how creative it gets with the set pieces. The first game had interesting mechanics like the alarm cars that call hordes down on you, but those were repeated throughout. In this game, almost every level has some really interesting mechanic that is specific to that level. Right from the beginning where you are escaping from a burning building, first with the doors that let the fire out if they're opened and then the elevator ride down into the inferno and the blind choking crawl through the first floor, the game always is coming up with new things for you to do besides just mad dashes from safe room to safe room.

My group had no problem with the roller coaster, but we wiped probably five times on the last part of Chapter 4, many times right outside the safe room.

Easily the funniest moment in a night of good gaming. I'll be remembering that spot for versus.

And Swamp fever done. Man we got lost once, figured out how short the level could be and then were done.
I love how triggering events is a "You ready for this? We might have to run" kind of thing on your first play.

Yeah, bled my heart and soul out to rescue the downed guy, while two others just sat in the helicopter and watched was not very encouraging.

Sorry Thirteenth. There was a mass of fire between us - I'll tell my grandkids about your courage.

"Downed guy" here. I owe my heart and soul to you. It was pretty glorious watching you slash your way over to me while Dysplastic and Blacksheep cheered on the infected horde from the safety of the chopper ;), but then so sad to watch my health slowly bleed away.

While they still sat in the chopper. Watching you go down next......

(Heaven knows I did it to others in L4D1)

Almost felt like I was playing with Prozac.
