What actor = "bad movie" to you?

Good point though. Kirsten Dunst is a simpering bag of mediocrity.

I liked her in The Virgin Suicides.

Everyone says this about one person or another and then they do an outstanding performance. Not everyone can be consistent with their choice of directors and writers. Everyone listed here has at some point done amazing work at least once. You cant say just because x is in y that y will suck.

Doh, I forgot to list that in my Ben Stiller exceptions.

No, but I can say, "x is in y, so I'll wait to hear good things about y from people with tastes similar to my own before I take the time to see y."

There's too many actors on this list that are people who had excellent movies in the past but suck now.

Think harder. The idea here is (or should be) actors who are virtual guarantees of suckiness, and have little to no past greatness to speak of. If you have to start naming exceptions, you're messing up.

There. Now that you know what you're shooting for, go forth and do it right.

I still say the worst is Shia Labeouf and after looking at his IMDB I feel even more confident that he's a guaranteed bad movie.

It's hard to argue with that. There's definitely no "Top Gun" or "Coming to America" to help his cause.

Wow, and I thought the people in this site were at least 30-somethings.

I thought this guy would've been mentioned pages ago.

And as of late, Robin Williams. Yes the same Robin Williams that brought us Good Morning Vietnam, Awakenings and Dead Poet Society now brings us gems like RV and Old Dogs.

Regarding redeeming roles for some actors, I'm forgiving Will Farrel because of Stranger than Fiction.

Kirsten Dunst was in Interview with a Vampire and she was more than an actress then than she is now.

I'll agree with the Tom Hanks nomination, but he still gives one hell of a performance in Philadelphia.

There's one role for Adam Sandler which is awesome; Punch Drunk Love, please note; this is NOT Adam Sandler allowed to be himself. The only two Adam Sandler being Adam Sandler in an Adam Sandler movie, Starring Adam Sandler I can stand are The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates.

Picking Disney channel manufactured celebrities is cheating. They're supposed to suck.

I think *Legion* wins, he's the only one so far to mention someone I cannot for the life of me ever remember liking.

When Harry Met Sally is a classic.

Ben Stiller. I've only ever liked two of his many, many endeavors: the original Meet the Parents and Night at the Museum. If only he'd give up the zany voices and goofy facial expressions and just play straight men, he'd be a LOT funnier.

Owen Wilson. Never seen a movie of his I've thought was even remotely funny, and that includes Cars.

They were both great in Royal Tenenbaums (which was Owen Wilson's last cowriting credit with Wes Anderson and also Wes Anderson's best movie to date.)

I'm no fan of Wilson or Stiller, but this bears repeating.

Also, what's not to like about Tropic Thunder?

Thank you. I like both actors, but Tropic Thunder gives Stiller a free pass forever in my book.

*Legion* most emphatically does not win, on account of making me look at that travesty of a face.

Meg Ryan was kind of hot when I was a kid in the 80's. Inner Space was possibly the highlight of her career. Her aging process since then seems to be orthogonal to everyone else - she doesn't look older as time goes on, just weirder.

Imagine that face in Modern Warfare 2 and maybe you'll hit someone.

Not likely pal. For starters, I think that cyborg-Ryan is immune to mere bullets, and secondly, were I to see that coming towards me holding a gun, I'd be booking it in the opposite direction, hoping that I'll wake up soon.

In the same vein as Meg Ryan, the presence of of Hugh Grant, Julia Roberts or Jennifer Anniston in a movie virtually guarantees I'll hate it. Nothing to do with their acting ability - or even necessarily the quality of the movie - just the type of movie they usually do.

Rob Schneider is the only one I can think of that automatically = "bad movie", although Adam Sandler comes pretty close.

Movies with Samuel L Jackson are frequently terrible from a critic's perspective, but the sort of terrible that I really enjoy.

Don Cheadle

The only terribly bad movie I have seen Don Cheadle in was "Mission to Mars". Which had a bunch of otherwise famous actors.

For me:
COLIN FARRELL

Hayden Christensen. Jumper was much better than I anticipated, but it was still a bad movie.

WHAT?! Did you not see Hotel Rwanda?

Or the Oceans movies (which are actually fun) or Traffic or Reign Over Me or Boogie Nights...

Yeah, I just don't like the guy, at all. I don't care about his acting, I just don't like him and he kinda ruins movies for me.

And Shia Labeouf is pretty lame too...

Hey counting the lead character from FF X isn't fair, he's not even a real actor!

If I understand your post, you're saying that Top Gun is a good movie. In which case, I fully understand why I almost always disagree with your movie-related posts.

Thank you. I often wonder how that movie gets so much love.

Traitor is one of the best movies ever made and is in the Netflix instant download queue.

On topic, Shia Labouf is the worst performers I've seen.

Chris Kattan

Shia Labouf is a god awful actor.

I'm not going to bother trying to spell anyone's name correctly because I just don't care about them, but here are others that ruin a movie for me:

Tom Cruise - Sometimes real life ruins the show. I'd have a higher opinion of the guy if he was a satanist.

Ben Affleck and Alec Baldwin. A couple of tools.

Jennifer Garner embodies the vacuous starlet stereotype.

Renee Zellwiger - if she's in the movie, forget about it.

David Arquette - that stupid sh!t eating grin.

Great thread!

Damn. Add Paul Walker and this is pretty much my list too.

The Wayans brothers in anything since "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka".

Chevy Chase... I didn't even like Vacation that much.
