What actor = "bad movie" to you?

Pages

While watching some trailers the other day on rotten tomatoes I realized that whenever I see certain actors I just automatically assume the movie is going to stink. Anyone else care to share the actors that just make you cringe when you hear they're going to be in something?

I think the most recent addition to my list of toxic actors is Nicolas Cage. I know he should've been on there years ago but I just kept hoping he'd end up in a decent movie. My wife said the last good movie she remembered him being in was The Rock and for me it was probably Rasing Arizona.

Another actor who I immediately associate with bad movies is Jason Statham but I've still got hope for him because of his roles in Snatch and Lock, Stock. The same goes for Jet Li. I'm a huge fan of the bulk of his Chinese movies but his American roles just haven't translated well. Even for mindless action flicks.

Kevin Costner.

Gary Sinise.

Keanu Reeves for me. Odds are against him picking a good role.

John Saxon. The mark of quality entertainment.

Samuel L Jackson.

yeah i said it.

*ducks*

Jake Gyllenhal. That might be more due to the fact that I can't stand him.

I'm with the OP - Nicholas Cage is the first that comes to mind. I can't think of a single movie that he's in that I liked.

John Travolta.

Don Cheadle

WHAT?! Did you not see Hotel Rwanda?

Oh let's face it... Tom Cruise is now the kiss of death for a movie. (Valkyrie anyone?)

I also have to add Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson (The Rock).

Steven Seagal.

Or the Oceans movies (which are actually fun) or Traffic or Reign Over Me or Boogie Nights...

For me it would be Nicholas Cage, The Rock and Brendan Frasier.

Megan Fox.

EDIT: Sorry, Mex.

I can't stand Jack Black.

If my wife was in a burning building and Jack Black was at the door... you get the picture.

Will Ferrell, or anyone from the last few generations of SNL that turned to acting, but mostly Will.

Seconded. I really can't stand him.

I'm not sure I can add anything more than this.

Ben Affleck. I don't even dislike him. It's just that he's not a very good actor and starts out with two acting arms tied behind his uncharismatic back.

He's the first person to occur to me, because lately all his movies have been dreck.

Ben Stiller. I've only ever liked two of his many, many endeavors: the original Meet the Parents and Night at the Museum. If only he'd give up the zany voices and goofy facial expressions and just play straight men, he'd be a LOT funnier.

Owen Wilson. Never seen a movie of his I've thought was even remotely funny, and that includes Cars.

I don't get a picture from that at all. What would happen? You'd ask him to move out of the way so your wife didn't burn up? You wouldn't answer the doorbell because you'd be busy trying not to die of smoke inhalation? What would happen??

I second all of this.

Also:

Asia Argento
Michael Pare

Ben Affleck is a decent-to-great supporting character, at least as a foil to Matt Damon. On his own, he makes one of the worst "leading men" I've ever seen.

Try Keeping the Faith. Good flick, and he plays it straight. Also, it has Ed Norton, which makes it worth seeing.

Wow, Tom Cruise isn't getting hit as hard as I would've thought. I vote:

Tom Cruise
Nicole Kidman

I can't stand either.

You should not risk the hipster wrath of Wes Anderson fans so casually, Kat.

I'd have to go with Affleck, even though he's great in Mallrats and Dogma. And, of course, Shia of Beef.

I'd also add Richard Gere and Milla Jovovich. It's not necessarily that these are all bad actors or have never made a movie I've liked, but in general the presence of any one of these actors in a movie is a red flag that the movie isn't for me.

So did you explode when you saw the reboot of Starsky & Hutch?

Get ready with your beating sticks, GWJ...

Tom Hanks.

There, I said it. I have an irrational hatred of Tom Hanks and everything he does. The stupid thing is that I think he's a talented actor who's good at what he does. Unfortunately, I just hate everything he does, and I've no idea why. It's all been crap since Big.

Ah, "red light" actors. As in, if you see them on the cast listing you should stop immediately.

So many named so far, I'll add:
- Gina Davis
- Matthew McConaughey
- Paul Walker
- Gina Gershon
