Do we actually know when this is due to hit in the US? I'm guessing Q4 2010.

The release date for the US version is coming pretty soon. Most people think it will be Spring of 2010.

Yup, although I'm guessing that might push dangerously close to summer 2010. Either way, though, the fire has been lit under the dev team on this one -- Square wants it out. (Personally, I'd prefer it out only once the localization has been tuned to perfection, but we'll just have to wait and see what happens there.)

March 9, 2010! Oh yeah!

and US trailer in english Looks to have lots of emmo!

Well, that's a bit earlier than I was expecting. Man, I hope that doesn't mean the localization will be rushed.

I guess I could watch the trailer and give it a listen to get an idea of how it's coming along, but I'm sort of doing a media blackout on the game. Hm.

I stopped watching Square Enix trailers a long time ago, because they so rarely show gameplay, and I'll get the story from the game.

If this is anything like 12, I'm totally sold.

They haven't done a bad localization in years so I am not too worried. They have more than enough money to have been having a team working on this for a long time. In fact I think I remember reading that they were kind of holding it back because they were not in a rush to release it because they have other big name titles already coming out.

I can't wait. FF games are always at least interesting and lovely.

Damn you, I did make a thread with the extended trailer on it, but since people actually posted here, I guess lets just keep this one up. *grumble* *grumble*

So, I'll be taking a month off WoW to play this when it comes out. Anyone else {ableist slur} about this game?

Square Enix is such a multinational corporation that they almost certainly do simultaneous "localizations" for each region.

There's a fair bit of gameplay in the first half of the trailer.

I have to say, I'm pretty impressed by the visual presentation. They're modelers and animators are some of the best in the industry, and it's all on display here.

just pre-ordered ps3 version

Yikes!

That was waaay more emo than I would have thought.

My enthusiasm went down a notch after watching that clip. I'm sure I'll buy the game and all, but man, I was watching the video and all I kept thinking the whole time was, "Lost Odyssey is way better than this (characters/overall art-direction)".

I guess it doesn't help that I don't own a PS3. The voice acting was pretty cringe-worthy in both writing and delivery. If I had the option to play the game with the Japanese voice acting and English subtitles (like on PS3), I'd feel a lot better about buying in.

Japanese with English subtitles isn't available on the 360? That might be a deal-breaker for me.

Yeah, Square has been pretty solid with their core titles (the main FF and DQ games, that is) so perhaps I shouldn't be so worried about it.

In fact I think I remember reading that they were kind of holding it back because they were not in a rush to release it because they have other big name titles already coming out.

True, but other reports have indicated (as I posted a few weeks ago) that Square is hurting from all the delays this game has suffered, and may be putting a bit of a rush order on it in order to get back to a position of positive cash flow. One way or another, though, we'll know how it went sooner rather than later.

But anyway, I compromised with my media blackout and gave it a listen but not a watch. Obviously it's nothing to truly judge by, but so far I'm fine with what I've heard (and certainly not as discouraged as Aaron seems to be!).

Has it even been confirmed that this would be an option on the PS3 version? Again, though, from the trailer it didn't seem so bad as to call for taking this option if it is there.

Yeah, only the PS3 version will have the Japanese dub.

Sorry to be "that guy" in my previous post. I'm still looking forward to the game either way.

Pretty {ableist slur}. There are several games I'll take a day off work for, but very few for which I'll consider a midnight launch. Heck, I might take several days off at launch, because various Final Fantasy games-- with their many, many flaws-- are pretty much the highest point of this hobby for me.

Ah, I remember that quote. Pretty sure it left it as a "maybe" though, even for the PS3. That said, it has become more and more common these days (from companies other than Square, at least) and the size of discs makes it a technical no brainer to include the option.

Oh, and...

Grenn wrote:

Yes. My deep, abiding love for Final Fantasy has yet to dim, although I do play a lot fewer JRPGs these days.

I just want the localization to be good so I don't have to wear headphones to keep Luna from mocking me when I play the game.

After seeing the new trailer and the bit of combat at the end, I was a bit disappointed visually. It didn't look much better than SO4, which came out February of this year. I'm still gonna but it and all, but I was expecting a bit more of a leap from the flagship series...but I guess if they started working on it 4-5 years ago, they can only ratchet the graphics up so far..

Seeing all of this really makes me want to get a PS3.

I am also {ableist slur} about this game. Fortunately, I'm not {ableist slur} enough to have a WoW addiction

Suffice that say that the wife won't be getting many words out of me in March much to her disgruntlement. She still ribs me about playing dress-up with adolescent girls in FFX-2. "Sorry luv, new FF game. See you next month."

She still ribs me about playing dress-up with adolescent girls in FFX-2.

Bah, they were hardly adolescent. Definitely of legal age at the youngest.

Also, that game never gets the credit it deserves -- it has the best job based battle system I've played in any JRPG, and aside from the bubble-gum pop crap (which unfortunately is the first impression you get of the game) it really did have a lot of interesting character building and story telling.

In my mind, FF13 matching the overall quality and tone of FF10 and FF10-2 would be a best case scenario.

I'm not {ableist slur} yet, but that's just because there's so much crap that's come out recently. Give me until December, then I'll be {ableist slur}. FF games are old standbys for me--Day One purchases since VIII, a game which I will defend to the death. I'm a sucker for exploring new worlds, and FF always provides that at the very least.

I agree wholeheartedly. But I can see her point of view, as someone who didn't play the game, but was in the room when I was, all she heard of it was the squeaky-voiced actresses giggling coquettishly at the end of every battle.

Zero, I don't buy it. If you were a real fan, you'd use the Roman Numerals instead of number. Just sayin'.

I already told my boyfriend. I am going to go out and buy the PS3...he needs to go out and buy the new big screen for HD. (we have a old school big screen that does not support HD, he has been wanting to replace now for a year)

Time to prepare YAY!

When in Rome, use Roman numerals. Elsewhere, use numbers that are clear and simple.

Oh, definitely. Still, from an objective standpoint there was nothing inappropriate about the game.

Okay, maybe that's a bit too strong a statement. But there's nothing pervy about... ah hell, it was still an awesome game.

It is kind of embarrassing that I remember this, but I did just play X and X-2 back-to-back... their ages are listed in the instruction manual. Yuna is 19, Rikku 17, and Paine 18. (X-2 is set two years after X, so yeah, Rikku was 15 in X, if that matters to you.)

Legal age in some states. Whatever.

They are consenting age at least.
