Locked threads: The forbidden fruit

Speaking of peculiarities of this here site, I understand "Tannhausered" from context, and it's a phenomenon that needed a name, but when was the term coined?

It's a fabulous addition to the Goodjer Lexicon. Back in college, my friends and I frequently turned each other's names into verbs.

I'd imagine it was coined after the nth time he beat someone to the punch on a particular item or idea in the TF2 thread.

If I recall, it was the opposite.
During the anticipation to an update (the sniper/spy one, I think) he kept getting beat to the punch by mere minutes when posting new information.

No, I think AnimeJ has the right of it...

Looking back at the thread, I do believe you're right. It was Tannhauser who kept beating people to the punch by minutes.

I'm thinking Stengah is correct, but it has been so long ago and so many pages ago it would be hard to find. I was thinking Brainz kept beating him to the punch. If somebody takes the time to find it post it so we can all see it.

Woo! Vindication! It gets coined here by Phishposer.

You've got too much time.

Regardless, it's come to mean the opposite, now.

I hope this thread becomes self-referential fairly soon.

*sigh* This thread is my legacy. My most memorable contribution to GWJ. I'll run off and shed a tear now.

Nay, I say stand and fight!

We few, we happy few, we band of GWJers;
For he to-day that sheds his post with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his banter;
And gentlemen in Everything Else now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon this dumb thread.

Once more before the lock, dear friends, once more;
Or close the thread up with "mark all as read."

Is that what the kids area calling it nowadays?

I quoted myself thinking the thread was going to get locked.

Aww man, does that make me the skimmer...

Does it mean that I read too much GWJ when someone at work answers a question directed at me half a second before I do, and the first thing I think is "Damn! Tannhausered!"
I don't even play TF2!

Did someone say, "In before the Locke?"

(Argh! Annoying. Hit enter in the address bar. It should reload the page with the picture for realsies.)

If you couldn't go with the philosopher, I'm upset you didn't go with this:

Because, quite frankly, Lost is way better.

MechaSlinky wrote:

And a better source of memes.

Perhaps Certis worries that a locked locked threads thread might prompt a thread about the locked locked threads thread, which would inevitably be referred to as the locked locked locked threads thread thread as it would get locked as well.

I'm gonna go lie down now.

Could you PLEASE stop posting stuff that makes me burst out laughing in the middle of the work day? My boss hates me enough already!

That's silly. You're silly.

But not as silly yet brilliant as LouZiffer. Locked locked threads thread, indeed.

If I were as vain as Quintin Stone I'd sig that first part. I'm having it engraved on my tombstone instead.

I'm tempted to sig that.
