Idle F***in' Thumbs Podcast

My god, I couldn't hold it together during the Jeff Jeffgold Gate Colgate Coolgame. Something about that utter nonsense was so hilarious.

The "future Idle Thumbs casts" portion had me in tears.

Based on a quick swing through their forums, it sounds like Idle Thumbs will continue with Steve Gaynor sitting in as the 3rd thumb, but it will no longer be on a regular weekly schedule. That's good news.

I already subscribed and then unsubscribed to Drunken Gamers Radio. If I'm in the mood to hear a bunch of drunk guys sit around and say "f*ck" for an hour, I'll just play Left 4 Dead with the GWJ crew, and get more entertaining commentary to boot.

I had a similar reaction to it. I listened to a handful of episodes near the beginning of the summer, and it just didn't sit right with me. I also think part of it was the difference between our interests in types of games. I'd never heard of and/or had no interest in 90% of the stuff they were talking about.

Yeah, I think that's a big part of it for me too. Based on my limited exposure they seem to spend most of their time on console and handheld stuff that doesn't hold a lot of appeal for me.

I listened to the episode at work today... I think I was grinning the whole time, and was caught laughing once or twice. Still doesn't top the Trine/Civ4 cast which got me hooked. All in all, not a bad way to go out, and the sporadic casts are definitely something to look forward to.

DGR just feels a little to XTREME for me. It's not bad but it just doesn't groove well with listening to at work.

I want the next Out of the game to come out. That's been getting better each episode.

I listened to Idle Thumbs 50 today. I refuse to call it the "last Idle Thumbs". As usual it made me smile and laugh. The humor isn't always highbrow but there is something infectious about those guys interactions that makes me laugh at stupid sh*t like them spouting nonsense words for ten minutes straight.

The Conference Call was good this week. Demi did a good job of hosting.

You mean Rob.

You'd think I'd know that after listening to over a hundred of the conference calls. I beg forgiveness. My brain is muddled from being repeatedly punched by a girl.

Rob is Gaald on the forums right? I get their handles confused.

Well the compliment still stands. Rob did a good job hosting!

The Drunken Gamers are a pretty good contrast to the Conference call. Once you get used to their style of podcasting, you would be hard-pressed to find a podcast that has as much knowledge of "old-school" console gaming as they do. While they are definitely not nearly as focused as the CC, there is a lot of info there.

Love Drunken Gamers. I laughed alot when one of them (Hilden?) was drunk and ripping on Jessica Chobot two weeks ago. Good stuff. Like any podcast, I don't always agree with them, but I always listen.

In the middle of Idle Thumbs 50. What kind I say that hasn't been said, already?

P.S.
videogames

They've replaced Milo with Steve Balmer.

Idle thumbs 50 was great (sigh.) Interesting impressions on Dragon Age.

I'm glad they called out English accents in fantasy games. They tend to get on my nerves. There are some glorious regional accents in the UK but the accents appearing in games are artificial and completely lacking in subtlety (the omnipresent 'dumb yokel' voice springs to mind.)

More shows possible by the sounds of it. Yay.

QWOP!!!

Yow not wrrrrong, oor kid.

There's a few companies who get it right, albeit that they're UK devhouses, so they bloody well should. Rare and Lionhead use a good range of regional accents to good effect (Fable 2 and Star Fox Adventures are two examples that spring to mind).

One thing I've learnt from living over here though is that the average American man-in-the-street often struggles with regional UK accents, so there's a limit on how crazy you can get with them without pissing off a sizable chunk of your audience(at least without including subtitles, I guess).

I love IdleThumbs and I've been following them only for 2-3 episodes. I'm new to podcasts (thanks to Epic Battle Cry for hooking me up!). Hopefully GWJ won't end just as I start to enjoy listening to you guys. I'm lucky that way, just when I find something good - it ends.

They aren't going to end, so I suppose that just leaves venturing into suck. Ah well, that's how it goes.

I was always surprised working in a movie theater how many people told me they couldn't understand even fairly easy to decipher accents. I got a whole line of people who couldn't apparently comprehend a single word of In Bruges. Though I also learned that people hate hate hate subtitles and will even decide to go see Elektra to avoid them, so I guess I'm just saying that the American movie going public is dumb as a box of hammers, which isn't exactly a shining revelation.

Swizard.

I watched a very good independent Irish film where the accents were impenetrable for the first 20 minutes...afterward the director said that was the result *after* he had made the child actors redo the scenes over and over until their accents were more clear for non-Irish audiences.

I do pretty well with most accents, but everyone has their threshold.

Now the sh*tty wizard is even sh*ttier after the patch.

The Sh*tty Wizard screwed up two of my rings last night. He's so sh*tty.

Since I found Idle Thumbs in somewhere in the late 30s (episodes, not decades) I am listening to every episode in order before I listen to 50. Good times. I'm on 11 right now, but I keep giggling at work. I should probably listen to something that doesn't make my coworkers stare at me.

Coolgame Goldgameblumgold.

Haha, that pic shouldn't be that funny to me but it made me giggle. Again.

Idle Thumbs was pretty great. I'm sad to see the weekly podcast go. Initially the giggling and in-jokes got on my nerves, but it quickly grew on you.

I'd like to say a little something to observe the temporary passing of Idle Thumbs:

I've finished listening to the Idle Thumbs podcast and to be honest, I had a lot of trouble with it. One of the hosts is one of those charming people who intersperses his speech with meaningless Far Cry 2 references, and while I'm not delicate enough to be offended by the game, it's very distracting to me when someone cites the same game for over a year. Especially so when the game they use is one of the most problematic, the game they mean is not a game at all but a toy with the sandbox gimmick (one of the weakest gimmicks in video games), and they do it CONSTANTLY.

So my question is, Far Cry 2, was it worth my Far Cry 2 time and effort to keep Far Cry 2 listening or should I have gotten my Far Cry 2 news and reviews from someone who Far Cry 2 knows what other Far Cry 2 games there are?

Trine?
