Dragon Age: Origins Catch-All

Encountered the classic "click on the bad guy and your character runs in the opposite direction" bug not five minutes in, and I'm on the 360 for crying out loud. That, and for some reason the audio drops off occasionally during conversations between two NPCs. Hope the latter gets patched up.

Well, this pretty much confirms for me that fully-downloadable games as a market dominator in the US is pretty darned far off.

At the rate this is going, I'll have ONE of the eight gigabytes downloaded in 45 minutes. I've half a mind to just pause it and start it up before bed, and write it off until tomorrow. I'm not playing tonight, that's for sure.

Or the demand past the capacity on the backend... so that actually ends up being a good sign.. more and more people are going the DD route.

I think the Guru is on the right tack here. Digital distribution is robust, except in the case of massively popular releases. Brick and mortar outlets have a quite a head start and still fubar the release date on massive releases from time to time.

Of course, I haven't tried to authenticate my Steam download yet, and if it is borked, I'll likely be among the loudest of the complaining voices.

I guess I should've been more specific. I was arguing more the broadband penetration route than the server capacity route. People who are getting 8.2 MB/s are just insane, and I guarantee not the norm.

I haven't passed 332 KB/s yet.

I briefly topped 370 KB/s but have been mostly sitting around 300. Fine for games like Torchlight, but a bit unwieldy for something the size of DA:O.

Somewhat offset by the loopy exchange rate at the moment meaning that games on Steam are about half the price of buying them in a brick and mortar store, of course.

I don't understand the strategy that devs have of forcing EVERYONE that buys their games to log into a site to authenticate or download content on launch. It's bad enough that everyone is hitting the site but with a Steam launch they're doing it AT THE EXACT SAME TIME! How does this make any sense?

There's got to be a better way.

Console version.

Dear lord, it's been an hour and while it's extracted it's now "Copying Files". I'm watching my OS partition slowly shrink while the parition for Impulse and where I placed the backup stays the same size.

Edit: Looks it installed to a default folder on C: without asking! Thumbs down!

Downloading via Impulse was very fast, by the way: I was pulling 2.7 megaBYTES per second from them. The DLC is all jacked up, but the core game came in extremely quickly. They don't do preloading yet on Impulse, and even so, I had the entire game downloaded in under an hour.

I'm having issues with the social site too.

I seemingly created my account just fine, using my EA account which I also linked into my Bioware account. I was even logged in, checking out the community site, but I couldn't find the characters I thought I had uploaded so I logged out and tried to log in again.

Now when I try to log in it takes me back to the account creation page, saying I'm logged in to my EA account and need to create a Dragon Age account but if I try to do that it gives me an error saying that an account on that email address already exists. Yeah, no sh*t, I just created it a couple minutes ago!

I don't really want to register it to a different email address in fear of getting things all messed up as Malor described.

This is exactly what happened to me when I tried to claim my DLC.

Now I'm not sure what to do. No point in trying to get support today, they are undoubtedly swamped.

Steam preloading was snappy for me; I bought it around 11pm last night and it was done some time before 3am.

Took about 30 minutes to decrypt just now. Now, to see what happens next...

See - games registered to Shoal - DA:O PC. ARRRGH!!!

I don't know why I continue to let EA screw me over.

This game (what I've played of it so far) is awesome. But the Bioware "Social Network" is sh*t. Like poop. From a butt.

Does it strike anyone else as a bad idea to require the customer to use this BETA site to claim content which we have already paid for? I mean the site even has a big warning with red letters on the front page:

"Thank you for your interest in the BioWare social network! This site is currently in an Open BETA state - you are encouraged to sign up and take it for a spin, but be aware that some things may be slow/unfinished/broken."

Just brilliant.

Has anyone successfully downloaded and installed DLC that was "included" in their purchase? I'm afraid to download The Stone Prisoner.

Dammit. I've played for an hour and now I'm determined to upgrade my cpu and videocard instead of waiting until I actually have the money.

Worked for me. I let all the small stuff install (armor, rings) and let the two big DLC pieces download while I started the game. They downloaded to about 80% and then seemed to slow, but they did download and install.

If anyone else is having my issue, there's threads running on impulse and bioware forums.

It took me a while to figure out what to do, but I'm up and running with everything via Steam download now. It was unclear to me which code went where--the first two codes listed for me (16 characters with hyphens) had to go in the "redeem code" page, while the third (20 characters, no hyphens) went in the "register game" page. (I can't remember, but the game registration may very well have to be done first.)

Just curious - has anyone picked up the strategy guide. If so, what do you think about it? I wanted to flip through a copy, but the guys at GameStop said they were all sealed and wouldn't let me take a preview.

I've been playing for the last hour or so, and am highly impressed so far. Think of it as the best of Baldur's Gate mixed with the best from Neverwinter and you'll see Dragon Age.

I'm running at 1920x1080 with 8x AA and all details maxed, and it's buttery smooth. No slowdowns whatsoever thus far.

I'm playing as an elven rogue, and I'm still in the (rather long) opening sequence, and am seeing my first combat which has been very fun. Sound effects are excellent, and thus far the voice acting has been outstanding.

I'm about to heat up a bowl of chili, pour a cold brewski into a frozen mug, and then head back in for a night of gaming bliss

P.S. i wanted to add ... I had heard about some having long loading times. That has most definitely not been the case with me. Area loads have been VERY fast. This game appears to extremely polished, which makes sense since the PC version has been done since April I think.

This sounds alot like what I imagine heaven to be. Except without the lapdances. You need to work on that Jeff-66.

People are stating it's taking up to 4 hours for the DLC codes to kick in and be available in game. I wonder if that's the lag time from the crap beta site and ea.com profiles.

This game is just...wonderful. I decided to play a Dwarven female noble as my main character and I don't think I've ever enjoyed an atmosphere so much. I'm not all that far in (have finished the Origin story) but I'm very, very impressed.

Couldn't agree more. The Elven opening has been superb thus far. I absolutely love the combat.

In case anyone hasn't realized this yet, there's a 'flanking' position for your enemy. Look at the red circle under him, his flank should be colored black. I'm a rogue so I let the other guy tank and then move to the flank do this vicious repetitive backstab move and watch the guy's health bar melt. So satisfying.

Screw it. I just purchased the 360 version. After the PC version crashed my PC 4 times and locked it up twice before ever leaving the main menu I just couldn't take it any more. Something's definitely wrong with my PC when it comes to just this game and Torchlight but I've already spent several hours over several days trying to track down the problem with zero luck. I think this is my rage-quit for PCs... well, for everything but MMO's.

Well, Steam has been Scanning for Steam Game Updates for 30 minutes now. I can't even see my list.

OK, it was the geniuses that put out a TF2 update the same day I want to decrypt DO:A that I'm mad at now.

Is it just me or does the war dog look like one of Gozer's pets?

Pre-loaded it via Steam a while back, unecrypted everything in half an hour or so and just easily got all my "free" DLC. I didn't actually worry over which CD key to use, I just used all three I have access through for Steam. Two worked, one was the CD key so it's all good. Downloaded and installed in about ten minutes, all of that being for the Stone Prisoner really.

I hope everyone else irons out their problems.

I can't believe it. I registered all my codes while I was waiting for the download from Impulse through the link they provided which already conveniently had my cookie from when I registered on the site ahead of time weeks ago.. and I have the same problem. I don't even see my codes on the Bioware profile.

Colour me pissed.. considering it was obvious this was going to be massively popular on all fronts on release day.

I found that a little frustrating because it would seem if I uninstall and later reinstall the game in, say, 2011, I'll likely no longer be able to get those extra items. Boo!

Actually, unless EA Store changed recently, you will not be able to get the game at all. If I'm not mistaken EA Store only allows you to d/l your purchased game for 1 year. Then you have to re-purchase it if you want it again.

No, no. I purchased the CE box (tin) from the EA Store, not the download. This one I must own!

Yep, those of us that followed impulse's directions in the email and put everything into the site appear to be screwed. I assume the lag time between that site and ea.com is at least 4 hours - at least that appears to be the DLC lag time thus far. Hopefully that IS the issue.

The animations are so great. I was just in a fight and was behind the enemy while my buddy elf Soris was facing him. Soris put on a finishing move where he rams his longsword clear through the guy, and I see a bloody 6 or 8 inches come through his back. Soris then pulls it out quickly and blood just sprays all over.

This game is rocking my socks.

I'm at least thankful this is a trending issue, so we can hopefully look forward to a quick solution. I only would of been playing it around this time anyways so I suppose playing it tomorrow wouldn't necessary ruin anything. Still, seeing people playing the game on my xbox live list certainly makes me a bit sour.
