How to find your ID:

After you pick City instead of Village, you'll go through some connection screens (note that Cha-cha's staff is Kut-ku topped). Then you'll pick a slot for an online ID. It'll send you to the server select screen. Just pick a server that has open space, enter it, and leave after. When you go to log in again, your ID will be under your character's name.

EDIT: Moved to OP.

Looks good, but no release date as of yet. I watched a video with a guy wielding a sword that was seriously like 3 times the size of him.

Yeah, that's the Greatsword for you. I prefer the Longsword (giant katana).

Coming to the US! Yay!

Nice to see confirmation! I hope it actually releases this year, but "this fiscal year" is close enough.

No way I'll be able to pick this up, unfortunately. With the amount of hours I sink into Monster Hunter, my wife would never get to watch TV ever again. Also, I might be like that guy who grew into his couch.

Seriously though, I do think that handheld is a better venue for this game, somehow. I can't quite put my finger on why.

(boo for no gunlances!)

Confirmed for Western Market.

Wooooo. I think she said they're still working out whether or not to do a subscription fee. The translator could have used a translator.

I wonder if there is enough interest in this for a regular GWJ hunting party? I loved the original MH soooo much, but some of the pubbies could get annoying. The only thing that would keep me from playing is the mention of a subscription fee. Hopefully that wouldn't apply to single player, but we'll see.

So how bout it? Anyone interested in carving up some big scary creatures?

Assuming there's no subscription fee, I'm all up ons.

I'd be down, but it'd be my first serious dip into an MH game. I'd need some tutoring.

I have no problem with that. You could even take a bowgun and watch the fight from a safe distance till you get the hang of it. Just try not to shoot me.

Funny you'd say that, as I enjoy ranged combat more than melee in games generally. I'd prefer the straight bow to a bowgun...just an old bias of mine, from Final Fantasy Tactics.

This is supposed to come out in March, yeah?

Based on the previous games, they each have their strengths. The bowgun is a lot easier to aim, especially over long ranges. It can also take specialized ammo that penetrates or explodes, or can even stun enemies or heal allies. Special ammo is limited though, and you only get infinite shots of the basic level 1 normal attack. Bows fire in an arc and can be charged up, but charging (and holding a charge) drains your stamina. Each bow has its own maximum charge level, as well as special effects associated with each. So one bow might fire a single arrow without charging, multiple arrows at once at level 1 charge, and a single piercing arrow at level 2, for instance. You can also apply limited-use coatings to your arrows. Again, that's just how it's been in the PSP games so I don't know what they're changing. I do know that they're condensing the "Light Bowgun" and "Heavy Bowgun" types into a single, generic "Bowgun" class.

I don't believe they've announced a release date yet.

Assuming there's no subscription fee, I'm all up ons.

Ditto. This is one of my most eagerly anticipated games.

I've heard that it was something of a flop in Japan, though. Maybe (hopefully) it was just because they thought everyone with a Wii would buy at least 3 copies.

I think if you were forced to use the Wiimote and nunchuk for it, my interest would be pretty lukewarm, but fortunately I dig the classic controller layout.

I'm curious why it wasn't considered quite the success in Japan that they expected. I may have to do some digging around on the world wide tubes this weekend.

If it's like the first, bowguns are extremely useful as a support role, but very expensive to operate (You have to buy or make all your own ammo, except the rally crappy stuff.) The key is to have people with weapons that complement each other.

It may not be as successful, but it's far from a flop.

I've really enjoyed the single player of previous games but never experience multiplayer because of the lack of online built-in and where I live. Eager to go online and conquest on my Wii.

1Up

Online likely to be free in NA, but that's not set in stone yet.

It's done over a million units. That's not a flop.

Whether or not the online play ends up costing money, Monster Hunter Tri will be breaking new ground on the Wii. Capcom has confirmed that the console port will be doing away with the Wii's notorious Friend Codes, and that they will be hosting games on their own servers rather than Nintendo's.

*deer in headlights*

Wii only? Lame.

Yeah, lots of people were kind of scratching their heads about that one.

Better than another PSP version, I guess.

Not going with your established audience certainly hurts, but the way it's played in Japan would likely never have worked here. I don't really mind because I have both systems. Make a beautiful game even prettier? Ok.

At least I have until March to save up for a Wii.

Looks like Capcom is delaying the title till after March.

curses!

Damn! I understand why they're doing it, but I don't have to like it!

Capcom ruined my next birthday before it even happens!
