GWJ Ventrilo Server FAQ

You want a password on it? PM me if so.

No, just a channel is fine. Thanks.

What's with the MotD? Is it moving?

I don't know what you mean. Are you referring to the Guest MotD that gave an IP address and a time? That was someone's BF2 server address, although they didn't note it as such. I've changed it, in case that was the confusion.

Oh okay, that must have been it. When I was logging in it just said something like "1.2.3.4 as of 8:50 PM" I thought it was telling me that the Vent server was changing IPs.

Cool. Note to mods: If you need to change the MOTD, make it clear what is being said, and probably leave something about GWJ at the top. Thanks!

I got on the Horde WOW channel last night just to see what was happening while waiting for the folks on the Boardgaming channel to show up.

A bunch of (I think) Germans started yelling at me.

It was a scary channel down there at the bottom of the list.

Did you write their names down? They might have been squatters.

Yeah I see squatters on every now and then. Only in the off-hours thought.

I was wondering, could we possible get a channel for Red Faction Guerrilla? No password needed.

Anyone know what the civ4 channel password is? We play pretty often and like to let people know by sitting in that channel.

I'd want a password in case someone interrupts the precise wartime planning of jetpacking into the air to rain down rockets of death only to realize your opponent still lives and to finish him off with a hammer to the face from the beautiful, orange sky.

Who's in charge of the server? Hello? Well the lights aren't on. Phooey.

In the chance that action is taken it would be nice if there was a DoW2 channel. There are a few guys that play with Tamren and I'm sure they'd appreciate their own place, especially with the expansion about to come out.

So there is. Now those guys just need to use it and stop crowding the coffee shop.

I'm pretty sure there is a DoW channel, it might be under Relic.

The server is currently overrun with Russians in the root level channel.

I see only 3? Are they griefing anyone?

No idea as I can't understand them. Just seemed odd to me, could be using the server for nefarious purposes. The US government has taught me to fear things I don't understand and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

So that's what I did.

I'm a good American.

Any chance for a Dungeons & Dragons Online (DDO) server? I've seen quite a few people logging on in the past few weeks since the game has gone free to play and team chat would be nice so we don't crowd the other channels. I don't think we need a password or multiple sub channels since there aren't any factions as far as I know. Thanks.

Is the server down?

I haven't been able to connect either.

Server might need a reboot, been wonky all weekend with disconnects.

Is the IP still 216.6.226.72 and port 4018?

I don't run the server but have permissions to do a few things.

I added a few of the requested channels. It's getting pretty messy in there. Are there any channels we know will not be used anytime soon or ever that we can delete?

As far as squatters, I think the consensus is that if they are not bothering anyone or causing a performance hit on the server then let them be. If they become a problem be sure to say something here.

I don't disagree Baba, but the server went down this weekend and there were a lot of squatters. It could be a coincident, but maybe not.

Good point. I'll check with thewalt about making a few folk admins.

It's been a while since I've been on, I tried this weekend without much luck, but thought it might have been my new computer setup. According to the control panel, the server should be up and running.

Whoever wants to shoulder some additional Ventrilo responsibility, send me a PM (tagged goodjers only please, that's my pub-filter... no offense to the baby gooj's). I can set up Sub-User accounts to manage the server through the web (for when we need a reboot).

ps. Goodjers are quite generous, looks like we're covered through the end of 2010 on hosting fees! I may update the welcome notice to reflect this.

A weeks notice:
Borderlands comes out next week and according to this we might want a few team subchannels.

I doubt it because you can't turn off the mic for in game voice chat. Having both vent and in game voice chat at the same time isn't going to fly. See the actual Borderlands thread.

Well that sucks, unless ingame voice chat technology has caught up with Vent yet...

Is there anything we can do about griefers besides passwords on the channels? It was kind of annoying trying to play League of Legends with people jumping in the whole time to play music and sound bites. I know Petriefied is on vent a lot, maybe he should get some privileged.
