Alpha Protocol Sex-All Thread

I see...so they plan on boring people to death before AP gets released then...not sure how that will help sales :P

Maybe it's to improve word of mouth once the game is out. Even if AP has the same flaws and unfinished feeling that their other two games had at launch, it's going to look like a masterpiece if you just finished Space Siege before that.

Me too, because let me tell you: The Bourne Conspiracy didn't cut it by a long shot.

I'm holding out for The Waldo Conspiracy anyway...

On the bright side, I'm broke at the moment and don't mind the wait.

It wouldn't be surprising, considering how marketing and previews for the game seemed to completely disappear the last few months and that recently leaked memo suggesting it needed re-tooling. Plus, awareness seemed low from what I could tell so maybe they're better off coming out after BioWare's two big titles have come and gone.

I'm all for it because I'm already behind on my RPGs and there's several coming up this fall alone. Plus, Obsidian might actually be allowed to release a game when it's actually finished this time around.

I feel both happy and fortunate that all my Must Buy games are still on track, while my That Sounds Cool, I'd Check That Out games, like this one, have been delayed.

Rumors are that game testers were finding the game far too difficult. Given how incredibly easy most games are getting these days, I'm not sure if that's a good sign or not.

A rumor it may be, but I was hoping that Alpha Protocol would be a good, relatively short RPG primer for me right before the massive game that is Dragon Age. A delay does seem right considering the lack of coverage, but the push to summer of next year seems too far.

On the bright side, we'll have something to look forward to in the scarce summer months.

Maybe they're delaying it so that it doesn't have to go up against Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2.

Obvious Logic: 1 Me: 0

I wouldn't have minded a delay so much if it had been confirmed a week or two ago, but, I've already given GameStop money for it. (The lure of the preorder bonus is too strong for me to resist.) Cancelling or moving the money is just a bit of a hassle.

The one preview that I did read suggested that the game is much more of a shooter, with some RPG elements and significant game-altering choices. I'm a little disappointed by the RPG de-emphasis, but intrigued enough to keep an open mind.

You know, that pre-order bonus sounds a lot better than getting space siege for free on steam.

Since I don't game on PC's, it's a no-brainer for me.

You beat me to it. You know i coulda sworn there was another catch-all thread but i could find it through google just this one and the other, older one. I also could have sworn that i predicted that it would be delayed but i seem to have mis-remembered that as well

I'm sure it's for the best but there's fewer and fewer games that're going to be out this year and thus it'll take longer for them to go on sale so i can buy them! :p

Anyway, it's now official.

The title throws the search off, I know.

Sounds "classy." Throw in an achievment and you've got a receipe for treating women like pokemon.

Like the "cards" you can collect in The Witcher?

Point, tanstaafl!

Look, it's a secret agent game. Secret agent (as opposed to spies) have sex all the time; it's part of the genre.

Im not arguing the "secret agents have sex " part. I'm arguing against "collecting" women, and the mindset it might make fertile grounds for. I've not a fully coherent platform against it, but the part of me that goes "fire bad!" is also saying "the way theyve implemented sex in Alpha Protocol bad!"

I'm with you Cramps. I'm more than a little sick of the way male and female ideals are portrayed in games when it comes to sex. Male ideal = Schtupp anything you can catch, and do the slow ones twice. Female ideal = Big boobs and severe allergy to keeping knees together.

Thank you, no. I'd like to play games that don't run contrary to my habit of actually treating women like people, rather than boob delivery systems.

I'm a little late to the thread, but NOLF did it right. Hot chick, but didn't sleep everyone. She was even apologized to by one guy who was forced to read demeaning code words.

Delayed once again.

I hope this means they're just adding polish and not that the project is in trouble. I was really looking forward to this but these continual delays are eroding my confidence.

Wasn't the reason for the first delay that it was 'too hard'? Not impossible, but I find it hard to believe that many studios apart from blizzard have the clout to delay something for polishing. I'd rather see a project get rework if it needs it instead of being kicked out of the door though.

Can't say another delay is surprising, since ME2 is still on everyone's minds. Just as Scratched said, I'd think we all would prefer a game be delayed to get the polish it needs/deserves.

Well, Sega actually owns the Alpha Protocol IP (at least from what I've seen on the end of trailers) so it's probably their decision to keep delaying it. It may be for competitive reasons to keep it away from similar games. Given Obsidian's reputation for putting out stuff that's buggy on release though, I hope it's for that first reason and not because the production isn't living up to expectations.

I think it's mostly marketing reasons, I imagine most production on the game was finished a while ago. Of course this is just a feeling I have from hearing people who've worked on the game talk about it like it's a finished product. I think Summer 2010 is a good position for the game. After the Dragon Age expansion but before Fallout: New Vegas. Also long after Bioware's big game launches and the Star Trek MMO. The only bombshell they might need to dodge is WoW:Cataclysm but that probably won't make a summer release.

The 1/1/10 episode of 4 Guys 1UP had Constantine Hantzopoulos from Sega of America. Besides being a great guest he talked about his work on Alpha Protocol. Among other things he said the delay was mainly about polish. He stated that the content, campaign, was done.

Hopefully it's worth the wait.

I also wouldn't be surprised if some of the "polish" is them going back and streamlining or changing some of the design decisions. Not to say they are unoriginal or anything, but Obsidian have been making games that build off BioWare titles even before they were under that moniker and still at Black Isle. While it obviously has it's own unique spin, it's clear Alpha Protocol is following the template Mass Effect had, and now that the sequel is out maybe some of that template will look more dated to reviewers.

Going by the dates and the time needed before 'gold' for content to be finalised and then bugfixed and certified, I would guess the first delay was for changing the game fairly substantially, and then taking the sega guy at his word that the second delay was for getting it up to quality standards to make it a great game. I can't remember the depth that alpha protocol is going into, but RPGs by definition have a lot of choices available to the player that I can see would make changes later in development difficult.

Again it's good to see that they want their game to be good, and there's the quote: "a late game is only late until it ships, a crap game is crap forever"

New trailer. Thorton makes Male Shepard sound like Kevin Conroy by comparison.

I know it looks a lot like Mass Effect, but for some reason I'm not really feeling it with this one.
