NHL 2010-2011: Free Agents; Kovalchuk Free Agency

Canucks drop a third. Luongo lets in three on three shots then gets yanked. That's like 3x3x3=27 times of what the heck happened.

Otherwise, the offense looks fine: fast, hitting and lots of shots. Samuelson and Erhoff continue to look like great pick-ups and Burrows continues to impress.

Yup, if not for Luongo the Canucks probably would have won that game. Heck you could say that about all three games this season. And game 6 against the Blackhawks. He needs to get his game back.

First for the Blue Jackets - they have never opened the season with 2 wins in a row until now.

The Central is going to be just absolutely brutal this year.

Any rumours going around for what's wrong with Luongo? Is he injured, or is there something going on?

I have a hard time believing that someone as good as that can suddenly lose his ability.

Maybe he figures with his 12 year contract he doesn't have to perform well off the start. We can't even trade him away for another 7.

I sure hope he gets it together soon though. Raycroft looked amazing last night next to him.

Personally, I think it has to do with being the captain and letting the team down in the playoffs. All summer the only thing I heard from him was how he knew he let the team down and he had to make it up to them. Seems he put so much pressure on himself he's overthinking and not acting naturally. Once he gets in a groove he'll be back to his All-Star self.

I hope so, he's killing my fantasy league team.

Gotta like those Bruins fans (NSFW). I demand female hockey fans all over the NHL to try to one up this.

Woo! Shut down Ovie, scored four goals, and while we took a crapload of penalties and that will kill us at some point, the PK seems to be just as good as last year. And it looks like Gabby might be a good decision after all.

They're going to follow this win with a truly insipid 4-game losing streak, aren't they?

That's one win, in OT no less. Well, it's a start.

Wings win one, too. I was worried they would start 0-4.

Actually, since they didn't resign Chelios the Wings net average has decreased.

But it isn't a good sign when they're signing people like Brad May for $500,000. The guy has four goals in his last 143 games, isn't much of a fighter anymore, and is otherwise just getting old. Why would the Wings pick him up?

I thought Brad May was retired, him and that stupid slip-off jersey. I think it was Brad May with the slip-off.

Not retired.

Johan Franzen out for 4 months with a torn ACL. Oh crap.

Babcock said it best.

Mike Babcock wrote:

"We had May in exhibition for a couple of games and no one gets hacked or whacked. When we don't have him, we get run. We don't have a team that twists off helmets at stoppages. You get tired of seeing it all the time. It's just nice when you get someone to look after that stuff."

At some point, I think winning a game would be good. I'm just putting that out there..

Especially since they don't have a 1st round draft pick for the next two years.

Damn you, Comcast. I was wondering when the HD games would show up on my Center Ice package and now I find out that you dickheads don't carry HD games? After the rep assured me that you did?

I'll be cancelling tonight, you dicks. Sure, DirecTV doesn't have Versus, but at least those guys will let me see HD games.

Sheesh.

The thing that would keep the New York Islanders on Long Island, the ambitious Lighthouse Project, is dead. Reports are that Charles Wang has pulled out of the plans which have been "in negotiation limbo" for several years. Where will they go? Kansas City? Will he apply with the NHL for Hamilton? Seattle?

Tell me, was this intentional?

That is six, repeat, six wins. Consecutively no less. I have no idea how to react to this, as I am so unprepared for it happening.

I am likewise unprepared for the Avs 5-1-1 record. I'm almost tempted to become excited for their prospects this season.

Don't worry, I'll be going to both the Detroit game and the one before it, guaranteeing two consecutive losses.

Habs had 7 men on the ice in the last 15 seconds of the game against the Avs, and just missed scoring... what a disaster that would have been for the officiating crew had they managed to put one in, which they very nearly did. The puck also appeared to go off the protective netting before the Habs second goal and they didn't blow the whistle. Add in some missed calls, and it was a terrible night for what is a veteran crew.

I came away very impressed by Duchene last night, good moves, speed, poise. The kid's going to be a player.

As ugly as things are in New Jersey, Toronto must be in a frenzy right now.

They're going on a road trip, and we can't wait to be rid of them. Hopefully while they're out there they figure out how to play.

Last night, they had a pretty decent first period, but Lundqvist was stellar in the other net. Nothing you can do about that except keep playing hard and keep it close. However, once we fell behind 3 -1 it seemed like most of the fight went out of the Leafs. Especially the 3rd period, it was ugly. The fans did not hold back the boos, either.

What is Ron Wilson going to do to get these guys going? It seems like he's tried everything already.
