Brutal Legend Catch All

Just got my shipping confirmation from Amazon as well-- I think I may be coming down with something in the morning...

Mine did as well. It will be here... sometime. It is racing Diablo II and Fallout 3 to my door. Winner takes the prize.

*Sigh* 24 days (at least, not that I'm counting) until I get my consoles out of storage. This game will be purchased to celebrate the return of said consoles, but I don't want to buy it right away, because then it will be staring at me and my sad face.

Review and interview up at Eurogamer.

The review is back to the old days of the measured, unemotional style of Eurogamer (whilst still being a very positive review). Donlan didn't sound like he was constantly throwing the horns and laughing his head off at the game.

How is this thread on the second page?!

The other good news is that my hours are almost maxed for this payperiod so I've got free time today and tomorrow.

My initial plan of "MUST HAVE THIS GAME NOW" has been somewhat tempered by the 80$ (After Tax) CAD price tag on it. Given that I've managed to get L42D for about 35, Borderlands for about 45, and Dragon Age for about 40 (All through various Digital Distribution discount fenangling), my expectations for what a new game should cost have been somewhat adjusted. The fact that the Canadian dollar is basically on par with the US dollar right now isn't helping.

All of which to say, looks like I'm waiting on this game until I can get it cheaper. Schaffer - PC next time, K?

You make a good point, but don't forget the role chance can play. I just showed up to work at 9 forgetting I start at 1 today. Now I'm leaving the Toys'R'Us, the only store open at 9:30, and headed back home happily divested of my $78.

I just received the $10 discount code from Amazon for the pre-order. Bad news is that it expires at the end of this year. I was able to use this $10 promotion, but if the Dragon Age code also expires at the end of the year, that will be a little silly and I don't know what I'll use it for. Dragon Age comes out November 3.

Out for delivery as of 7am this morning. Should be there waiting for me when I get home. Also, the wife is out this evening with a friend, so I'm gonna crack open a few beers and dive in.

*pinky-pointer-salute*

Coincidentally I went to the local market on the weekend and they already had pirated copies for modded Xboxes =P

Too bad... I'm gonna wait for the PC port, personally.

Holy crap!! That's a lot of blood donated.

I think that I will wait and troll usedOttawa.com looking for 360 copies instead.

OOPs - Double post

That'll be a long wait...

UPS just dropped off my copy! (I work from home)

Now the hard part is waiting until I'm done working to play it.

EDIT: random fact - parts of the manual use the WoW font and the Megadeth font.

Believe it or not, I actually loved the intro to the title screen. This game is made of win.

Best menu screen EVAR. By a mile.

Brian Posehn's in this game. Game of the Year.

Aww man. This game has put me in a weird position. Even losing is awesome. There's a section in the beginning the game that involves a bridge. I failed and immediately had a laugh out loud moment because of what he said.

I agree with you, I got L4D2 and borderlands for 35 each and even though I have tradein credit, I am really iffy on picking this up for 69.99 but I am tempted, off topic how did you get Dragon Age for 40?

Canadians: What a bunch of cheapskates.

Well, what do you expect? They're tapped out from paying for surgeries for poor folk. Serves 'em right, darned socialists

Correction: They're taking their money saved from fleecing game developers to eat more poutine and maple syrup covered sausages, because they know someone else is paying for their triple bypass surgeries. Jerks.

Well that's true but seriously I will probably pick it up just I wish games were back down to being 59.99 where they should have stayed.

I picked up Batman:AA for $40 and bought a large Meat Lover's pizza with a side order of chicken wings so I'm actually a hypocrite in this matter.

And yes, the fact that a lot of new games are creeping up in price in Canada has been annoying me lately, I must admit.

Looking forward to some Goodjer reviews of this. The demo was great, now I'm just wondering if the full game is purchase-worthy or a renter. With sooooo many purchases in the next two months I've got to budget my Wife Points if you know what I mean

Yeah that's my biggest issue, if they would stay the same instead of having crept up, I wouldn't have an issue but I think on my break, I will go and pick this up.

Yup, I'm giving the stink eye to Americans complaining about $60 games now. I feel like the prisoner in Life of Brian.

"Ohh! What wouldn't I give to pay $60 for a video game! I sometimes hang at night dreaming of paying $60 for a video game."

As for BL, I got about 1.5 hours into it, and the demo really sold it short. If you hadn't read anything about the game, you might think it's just a brawler and never know about the Pikmin aspect or open world. But right after that you're dropped into the world and your next mission introduces you to controlling units. If that could have been squeezed into the demo, I think it would have given a much better picture of what BL's complete gameplay is like.

I can definitely see myself continuing to compare this to Fable II. So I'll say this, with regards to the open world: whereas in Fable I was very happy to stand around and gaze at so many of its gorgeous views, BL is handing Fable II its ass for creating a world where I want to run up to everything I see and get a good look at it.

There are f*cking cylopean stone swords sticking out of the ground and giant, moss draped iron crosses all over a landscape roamed by metal-spiked animals. Too many elves and goblins elsewhere: so far this is a distinctly original fantasy world. It's bloody brilliant.

I'd like to really tone down my inclination toward hyperbole and over-expressions. My enthusiasm sometimes gets the best of me, so I'm going to measure my words carefully and from as neutral as position as possible, also with a keen eye toward avoiding ridiculous snap judgments.

After 3 hours of play, let me simply say this:

Brutal Legend is the best man-made commercial entertainment product conceived by man to date or ever to come in the future.

I'm two hours in and I'm really enjoying it. Sort of the same experience I had with Fable 2 around this time last year. Went in with Zero expectations and found myself instantly sucked in.

The music is great to, especially if you used to listen to metal back in the day.
