Classic Game remake wish list

Gotta agree with Wasteland.

Also,

Shadowrun
Starsiege: Tribes (the original - a true remake)
American McGee's Alice
The Mark of Kri - I understand this is a PS2 game but it's one of my favorite games ever and I'd love to see it in 1080p.
Drakan: The Order of the Flame
System Shock 2
Ultima 8: Pagan
7 Cities of Gold

Also gotta go with The Horde with Kirk Cameron before he became a loony.

Have you tried Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic? Its darn close.

Hey, and for only $308.99, it can be yours! Yikes.

I just want Interstate 76 and XCom, please.

Thats just how good it is, you see. I've gotten about 3090 hours of entertainment out of it, so per hour its pretty cheap

Get off my lawn you kids!

Here's what I'd like to see.

Crazy Climber (a unique control scheme, which I think has never been reused).
Star Raiders
MULE

Seriously, has anyone else ever played crazy climber? I came very close to being able to finish it.

They did one a few years ago called Space H.O.R.S.E., available here from Shrapnel Games. Unfortunately, at $34.95, it's rather steep for a nearly 7 year old game. Reviews are also all over the board from 75% all the way down to 10%.

FFVI-A full orchestral score, even with the 16-bit graphics, would be absolutely wonderful.

Ogre Battle-probably the first Japanese tactical RPG, and it's absolutely wonderful. More customization choices than FFT, a ton of endings, and an incredibly LONG story.

X-Wing

Lode Runner - Just make it in the style of "N" and I'll be happy
Return Fire
Unholy War - Hex based strategy, please!

The original Gold Box games using an isometric view (ala Baldur's Gate) would be cool

Syndicate

Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe

f*cking A!

Also, X-Com, Star Control 2 and pretty much all of the other classic PC games mentioned here.

Hopefully the new Mechwarrior game will satisfy that craving.

I'd also like to see a Freespace 3, but I know that will never happen.

Yes, but keep the MIDI voice for the aria in the Opera House. Sometimes you just can't mess with perfection.

I only saw it mentioned once so I'll second it( even though I was going to suggest X-COM, again): Homeworld

With newer tech you could have individual turrets on the ships, more ships and lots of other cool stuff.

So many classics, so little time. Firaxis is already working through some of the old Microprose classics, and I'd love to see some of the old Bullfrog, Looking Glass, and Origin stuff show up again with modern production values.

Carmageddon. I have never laughed as hard or as maniacally while playing a game.

Blast Corps - That game is so ugly now, but most of the gameplay is fun, if a bit limited.

Is this in reference to Pirates! and Colonization or are they currently working on a remake of something else from Micropose's lineup?

To those who have mentioned Star Control II on here before - this is probably common knowledge but there's a pretty solid port of it for modern PCs entitled The Ur-Quan Masters. I think that game deserves a proper successor more than a remake, as there is nothing I would change about the base game.

(It's telling that no-one requests a remake of Star Control III... =] )

Oh, and +1 for Darklands. As is the case with almost all of these games, there's an long-abandoned open-source remake of it entitled DarkWorlds, but it could use a proper coat of paint and bugfixes.

This is also a great idea.

Among other things, Firaxis now owns the rights to Sid Meier's Pirates!, Colonization, Covert Action, Gunship, Silent Service, CPU Bach, F19 Stealth Fighter, and F15 Strike Eagle. I believe they had the X-Com rights for a while, but those were transfered to Take-Two. The rights to Alpha Centauri are still owned by EA.

Itsatrap, what about another Microprose game, Master of Magic? Its one of those games goodjers toss around whenever a warm-n-fuzzy oldie thread (like this!) appears. Do you know who owns that now?

Atari. Stardock tried to get the rights to MoM for a while but talks broke down. Elemental is to be the MoM game Stardock wanted to make.

Man, how could I forget Darklands!?! To this day I still think that Darklands is one of the best, most realistic feeling RPGs ever made.

Darklands was one of the buggier pieces of sh*t ever put into a game box and shipped, but the flavor was awesome. Another game that had that kind of powerful vibe was "Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura", which was also horrifically buggy and almost unplayable.

It must be extra difficult to make that kind of deep, rich RP game... they must really run over their time budgets, as badly as they have tended to suck.

Pizza Tycoon. This bug-ridden unbalancen gem with outdated graphics even when it was released in 1994 deserves a true comeback. There just aren't enough tycoon games where you can bribe mayors or cops, sabotage your opponents, win pizza contests, negotiate delivery contracts and much more in one brilliant game. Even if no one else played it.

I played it! Me! Here! And I totally agree. This was such a crazy game that I spent dozens of hours designing the perfect restaurant, perfect recipes and, yes, breaking into competing pizzerias and burning them down with a flamethrower. All this while climbing the organized crime ladder by smuggling weapons. This game taught me that being a chef is neither easy nor safe occupation Apparently there have been two sequels, Pizza Syndicate and Pizza Connection 2, but I haven't played them. I should probably look for them.

Yep. I love Star Control II and Ur-quan Masters, so I didn't have it in my own list. Oh...and what is this Star Control III that you speak of? =]

Darklands I had in my list because all the bugs and crappy state it was in on release really marred a great game. Even now I dabble with the fully patched version with DOSBox from time to time. The problems are the interface & slow pace. It being possible to have your party wiped on the very first encounter however was a feature.

Guardian Heroes - I'd love to see a high-res, maybe SF4 style version of one of my favorite games of all time. The old Treasure gameplay needs to remain. Just make it pretty.

Xwing - This is another game that could just use a graphics update. You can leave everything else alone.

Blast Corps - I hadn't considered it until I saw it above. It deserves the proper explosions only modern hardware can provide.

GoldenEye for the 64 keep the pace and weapons the same just a modern graphics overhaul

The original N64 Turok might do well with some updates as well.

Jet Force Gemini could stand to see update graphics, control, and voice acting. The soundtrack just needs to be re-recorded, but is amazing.

I just had an epiphany: Sundog: Frozen Legacy! Man, I sunk some hours into that one.

Lode Runner brings back memories and made me think of Bezerk. The hours that [/i]I wasted on those two games, insane.

Darklands is just barely on the edge of greatness. Where Pirates! melds its disparate elements into a whole, Darklands falls just short. The real-time battle system is probably the biggest failing point nowadays, I'd like to see it with either a modern real-time system or proper turn-based combat; just so long as there's more tactics than having two guys gang up on one enemy. The simulation has a few lapses that I'd like corrected: I don't mind characters dying but not if they're treated as an erased database entry.

But my biggest problem is that there's a content shortage, with too much repetition. It's probably a sign of the rushed production, and the content that is there can be incredibly deep, but there's a lot of generic stuff too. If someone made the exact same game with more, deeper content with the exact same interface I'd play it. (I'd play it longer if you fixed the UI too, though.)

Regarding the library, we are in the process of converting Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath to the PC, so that all four of the major Oddworld games will be re-releasing this winter in a package called "The Oddbox." This will be the Abe games, Munch, and Stranger as one package for Steam's digital distribution network, as well as a few other digital distribution outlets.
