NCAA College Football 2009 *Catch All*

You still need to rethink your rankings. ECU is the fourth-best football team in the state of North Carolina right now behind, fifth if you figure a healthy Armani Edwards would have beaten them in their season opener.

Also, Texas Tech has shared a conference with Texas and A&M since 1956. Why in the world would it give that up to move to a conference that's not aligned with the BCS? And why would the Big 12 be interested in a tiny third-tier backwater college to replace Tech?

Who said we were talking about what the schools would want to do? Doing what the schools and their AD's want is why we are stuck with an antiquated system as it is. Moving Texas Tech as an example of a school addition that would give some credence to the Mountain West with the other suggested team moves.

Geographically, it makes more sense for La. Tech to be in the Big 12 than the WAC. If you would prefer to just add La. Tech to another conference which makes sense for their area that would make sense too. SEC West would work, and yes they would be a doormat for awhile, but there is no way to avoid that since they can't recruit competitively against the Big Boys without the national exposure and money that comes with playing in the big conferences.

As for East Carolina. I built the rankings from my own impressions. The past few years they have put a pretty good team on the field. If they suck this year, then maybe they would get bumped, but that doesn't fault the proposed system.

What about that referenced rivalry for Virgina?

Virginia's a southern state, and UVa is a southern school, despite the high proportion of Yankees and other carpetbaggers in attendance. It's out of place in any arrangement that includes two schools in New England and one in upstate New York.

As far as football goes, Virginia is traditionally a lesser power not just in Virginia but in the ACC. The George Welch era was the exception. The Cavs are much more likely to get thrashed by W&M rather than knock off a VT or even a Clemson with any regularity. Then again, once you get north of Penn State, no one plays football worth much.

Just so you know gizmo, any plan that divides Southern football powers and places them in Western or Northern alignments will bring about a second civil war. And Texas is not of the South. Just sayin'.

Well, if they didn't have so many football teams, the alignment would have been much easier to put together.

BTW, you go ahead on down to Texas and tell them they are not in the south I dare ya lol

EDIT: And besides, what's wrong with a little war in football?

They're not in the South. They're in the Texas. And if you ask, the Texas is greater than any direction on a compass.

Historically, Arkansas has been a MAJOR power. Much more so than Ole Miss (and I went to Ole Miss). They (OM) is one of those schools that many in the nation would like to see return to prominence (there is something everyone likes in their charm, and if they did, more could experience the Grove), but never can seem to make it over that hump. Great promise usually is followed up by great disappointment.

Yeah, I really wasn't looking at historical power, but even with that, Arkansas was one of those that was tough to make a decision on. With Mallett and 2-face petrino as a coach, they would likly be in the major league of their region more often than not.

Still got a little to prove to me though. IMO

In a semi related story to college football, Erin Andrews' peephole videographer has finally been caught.

Someone mind pointing out why Cal Bezerkly started the season ranked to begin with?

Only needing a field goal, LSU might still have won, but the celebration rule has got to go, that was a horrible, horrible call.

So, I don't know if ND is any good or not, but they sure make it hard to stop watching their games to the very end. If one play turns out differently, they're 5-0. If 3 turned out differently, they're 1-4. Last 4 games all decided by 7 points or less; last 4 regulation periods decided by 4 or less (last 3 by <3 points). All pretty exciting stuff!

f*ck.

Nevermind that Oklahoma/Boise rematch. Boise needs to face a winner.

More on the unsportsmanlike penalties at the end of UGA/LSU game. Tim Brando calls out the SEC.

Jahvid Best

Ducks keep rolling.

And once again Wake Forest shows that it's the best college football team in North Carolina.

Wake Freakin' Forest!

In other news, the SEC remains the most entertaining pro sports league in the nation not named the NFL.

Yeah, they should really just come out in the open and give those kids a raise.

The true most deserving candidate for the Heisman: Ryan Mathews

Well, he won't get consideration over Te-blow, but Jahvid Best has zero business being ahead of Mathews.

You've got the wrong Ryan. (But I agree with you on Best --

Remember that Hokie fan was in panic mode before the season started. With Darren Evans out, they realized that Tyrod Taylor was their QB. But Taylor has actually been decent this season, and Williams has been super.

So who'll gets the Heisman this year? Is it Tebow's to lose?

P.S. "Jimmy Clausen" is not an acceptable answer in this quiz. Thank you.

maybe McCoy by default unless someone really lights it up for the next month.

And no, I don't think he is deserving, but Tebow will really have to light it up to win a second. That's hallowed ground, and if the horns hold onto a top 3 spot, McCoy will be in good position.

Wow, what a comeback.

Now is the Seminoles could just fine a defense.

Fixed!

The denizens of my fair state are looking forward to the start of basketball season in a big, bad way.

Wow, not much bias there. lol

enjoy BBall

Yeah, FSU can still make it into the ACC title game!

I have seen more helmets flying during this season in both the college and NFL than I can remember in any year previous. How someone has not been hurt, I do not know. Are players not being helped to select a helmet that really fits their head?

Well, USF got its 2nd straight Big East loss. I guess it is too much to ask with a freshman QB...

Hoo-ray for Texas in its march to the National Championship game.

We got nothin' else this year. Except for Duke.

Yes, the Dookies might be the best football team in the state this year. And that includes the pro team in Charlotte.

/facepalm

In other news ... who knew Christian Ponder could play QB?

He has had a good season, the defense is just not good this year.
