Year End Pile Closeout

Pages

We've reached the point in the year when the holiday season onslaught will soon begin. Instead of trying in vain to play something old during November and December (hell, some of October even), I've decided to make this the last pile of shame thread for 2009. We will resume playing the old stuff in 2010.

Now's the chance to dive in to one of those meatier pile titles, since you've got three months to do it. Of course, if you play like me, you'll put in 4 hours early this month and never think about it again until March 2010.

This month's pick of the pile is

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

"A 400-year-old clue in the coffin of Sir Francis Drake sets a modern-day fortune hunter on an exploration for the fabled treasure of El Dorado, leading to the discovery of a forgotten island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

The search turns deadly when Nathan Drake becomes stranded on the island and hunted by mercenaries. Outnumbered and outgunned, Drake and his companions must fight to survive as they begin to unravel the terrible secrets hidden on the Island." (playstation.com)

I'm going with Fallout 3. It never grabbed me the first time I played it, but I think I'm more in the mood for a single player RPG this time around.

Hoo boy, 3 months. Well, put me down for the following:

Uncharted (hopefully before Uncharted 2 comes out)
Tomb Raider Underworld

Witcher - Which my laptop could not play, and I have sat on for all of 2009. New computer this fall should allow me to play this, but will I complete it before Dragon Age comes out and I lose interest in everything else besides steak, beer and pooping¿

Fallout 3; I finished the vanilla campaign when the game was released, but now I'm going back and exploring the DLC plus the many, many areas I missed the first time through (like the Dunwich Building; damn, that's scary).

Final Fantasy Tactics A2, now that I finally bit the bullet and bought a DS.

Ok - I didn't get to Bioshock (PC) last month like I had planned, so I'll finish that up before the end of the year. And, since I've got 3 months, I'll add Uncharted and Crackdown to the list as well. Might as well set my sights high!

Good call, as I expect Dragon Age: Origins and Assassin's Creed II to fill November and December for me. And I'm considering attempting to slip in an Assassin's Creed replay...

That said, since I just finished Final Fantasy X, I'm going to try to tackle Final Fantasy X-2 in October.

Since the coming winter means switching to the bus for my commute, I feel like I should toss a mobile game on there too. Crisis Core, Jeanne D'Arc, and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor are all contenders for top of the pile. I'll have to think about it, maybe make another post once I decide which one to start...

I love these threads. They're a pretty good motivator.

Hm. Tons of options for the next 3 months. Halo 2 is a curio that I'm interested in, and I also wanted to play Vampire: The Masquerade for Halloween. Then I've got tons of PS2 and classic Adventure games to go through.

Alright, lets go for 3 games:

Chronicles of Riddick - Assault on Dark Athena (PC)
Halo 2 (PC)
Vampire: The Masquerade (PC)

Not necessarily in that order.

Let's roll Burnout Paradise over into this month. Last license ...

After that, it's all new games for me!

They're a fantastic motivator and make me enjoy games (even the average ones) like I haven't done since the early days of the SNES! After that time it just became too easy to switch to the hottest new flavor as soon as it came in.

I managed eight completions last month (although four of them were Telltale shorties and only two eligible for the pile), so I think picking four before January is a safe start, especially since I don't really have the money for any new hotness

I'm currently pledging to finish:
Kya: Dark Lineage (PS2) - A platformer I picked up for $9.98 a few years ago. Although parts are a bit clichéd, the game is quite fun and imaginative. Probably underappreciated.
The Thing (PC/multi) - another one I picked up on the cheap 6 years ago and never gave more than 10 minutes of playtime to. Fixing that now, although no widescreen support kind of sucks. Guess I should be glad it runs at all still.
Mirror's Edge (PC/multi) - picked it up in July and recently gave it a whirl. Already about 40% through and loving the immersion! Combat, as everyone has noted, is a bit loose unfortunately. Also, I really want these magical gloves that allow me to insta-stick to a vertical pipe after having fallen 10 meters!
killer7 (NGC/multi) - where beeporama failed, I shall succeed!

On the side, I'll probably begin grinding Dragon Warrior IV on the NES, but there's no ETA on that one yet. Also, can anybody give me an idea of how tough Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! gets? I'd hate to pledge it later only to find out that the final level(s) will forever remain beyond my abilities.

Which Vampire are you playing through? Bloodlines or Redemption? Curious to see how Redemption runs on current machines and vista.

Here's my list:

Far Cry 2 - Xbox 360
Bioshock - Xbox 360

Since this is going to be a long slog i'll pick a few games:

Spoiler:

Black - PS2
Dragon Quest 8 - PS2
Final Fantasy 10 - PS2
Final Fantasy 12 - PS2

[edit] Oops just realised i won't have access to a PS2.... er.... Scratch those and replace them with:

Blacksite Area 51 (if i can get past the bugs)
Call of Duty 4
Full Spectrum Warrior
Beneath a Steel Sky

I'm already bracing for the incredible onslaught of titles I want. It's going to be an expensive few months, between MW2, OF2: Dragon Rising, Dragon Age Origins, Uncharted 2 and a few other games. That said, I am close to finishing 'Fable: The Lost Chapters', and I also want to get 'Uncharted: Drake's Fortune' done. Put me down for those two games please, Hemi!

Put me down for:

Dawn of War II (PC)
Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway (PC)
King's Bounty: The Legend (PC)

If I just finish one of those games before Brütal Legend releases on the 13th, I'll be happy.

Well Thief got voted for the Vintage Game Club, so I look forward to recommitting to it and finishing it before the new year. But now I've got a shiny new copy of:

Thief Gold (PC)

Put me down for Two Worlds (I'll be playing the PC version, if anyone else is interested in the online portion, send me a message through Steam), Saints Row 2, and Assassin's Creed.

I can't make a decision. I haven't started another game because my choices are endless. So, I'm going to list a few games and hopefully I'll finish one of them by Christmas.

Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness (PSP)
Bionic Commando: Rearmed (XBLA)
Final Fantasy VI (multi)
Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (DS)

Fallout 3 (360)
Lost Odyssey (360)

I'd put NWN2 Mask of Betrayer/Storm of Zehir, but I may never actually finish them

Three months to do it? In that case, sign me up for:
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (I'm starting tomorrow and want to finish it before Uncharted 2 comes out)
Saint's Row 2 (360)
The Darkness (360)

Well, life grabbed me by the throat last month after a strong start. Put me down for FFXII again.

Okay, put me down for Titan Quest + Immortal Throne. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to do it as I'm already on to the Immortal Throne material, but I want to at least give legendary a try to level the character a bit more.

Fallout 3 is definitely better this time around. I went ahead and picked up Broken Steel to bump the level cap and extend the game. I need to kill more raiders to get ammo, as I've pretty much cleared out the store in Megaton.

Far Cry 2 is everything I was hoping it would be and more. I feel like John Rambo, and I like it!

Bioshock, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and Killzone 2. I'm playing through Earthbound for a "Let's Play" campaign on YouTube, but I don't think that counts since I know it almost as well as the people that made it.

I'm still poking around with Burnout... I dont think that is a game you can really beat, you just play until you get bored and do something else.

I'm still working on shadow complex, I suppose I could go for Drake's Fortune once I unpack it.

I'm also working on Scribblenauts and Castlevania OoE.

Not to poke you with a stick or anything... but you sure seem non-committal on those commitments.

Put me down for Far Cry 2 and Assassin's Creed.

My two remaining back log games that I need to finish are:

Viva Pinata
Ssx 3

I'm pretty sure I'll play the later but I should give the former a concerted go aswell to see if I can get into it.

Before Dragon Age comes out I need to at least try Oblivion. I'd also love to wedge in some time to play Braid, and revisit Dawn of War 2 (which I coldly ditched half way through the missions, and now have to restart). Mass Effect also needs to be bought and finished before the sequel comes out.

I'm afraid of commitment.
