Fixed.

Personally, I don't understand why King of the Hill is so well liked. It's boring, and basically turns TF2 into a deathmatch round. Any other map that has control points is all about getting somewhere, and zones of play change every few minutes, especially in something like Granary or Well. It's like half a Hydro match.

This has been my same opinion also. It is probably just because KOTH is new.

Hey, we can share quotes! Although I will edit mine down like a news network.

I love KotH. Here's why!

• I'm relatively new to TF2, and I don't have all the maps figured out yet. You can be productive in KotH without knowing a thing about the map. Just head to the point every time.
• I play Soldier as my primary, so I like maps where I don't have to do a lot of walking after I spawn.
• I feel like you can always come back and win in KotH.
• It typically doesn't require an Uber to break a defense in KotH. I always hate fighting an entrenched defense at the last point in Payload/CP when there's just no freaking way that progress is going to happen without an Uber or two.
• I'm good at direct combat. Straightforward fights right on the point suit me perfectly.
• Cloak-n-sit Spies don't hassle me as much in KotH.
• I like that there are two fights going on at all times on most KotH maps. The battle for the edges, and the battle for the point. When you tire of one, you can switch to the other.
• I think KOTH is what Arena should've been, I don't like Arena at all.

I agree. Arena is only fun after you've had a stalemate for 20 mins (aka sudden death). It means it ends soon.

KoTH is just a 1 CP map. It might be better with slightly shorter timers, so you get the flavor of a death match without requiring all the time to actually complete the objective.

Yeah, I prefer KOTH to Arena. That said, some of the maps are better laid out than others.

I like KOTH too, but I wish it were only three rounds per map or something. Sometimes it seems like the maps last forever...

True. Me, I'd be okay with 1 round.

Lets move this convo to the TF2 thread not the server thread

I love Arena. KOTH is okay but it reminds me too much of the last point of corporation. It's just a slugfest for 15 minutes.

Oh, and I'm not actually serious about adding the 100% uber mod. Of course even that wouldn't make medics as easy as the easy button.

Could somebody give me the IPs to all the GWJ servers? I recently reformatted my hard drive and lost all the servers in my favorites. I also don't feel like searching for them.

We just have 2 now, the Pub is in my sig and the Private (password needed) is in Evil's first post in this thread... Saving favorites is something I think steam should do on your account automatically, it sucks losing them =P

Thanks!
I wasn't sure if the old ones were still up and in use or what was really going on.

The complaint that x makes the game into deathmatch seems over done. The game IS a deathmatch game with a focus regardless of the map type. You have to shoot the guys on the other team not blow kisses at them.

You have to be above Coffee Grinder? That's kind of a meh policy for people who don't post a lot. I know people who have been playing on the server for over year but don't post often enough to get out of coffee grinder. I understand the idea, though. And I don't pay for the server, so it's not really my right to complain.

I think* exceptions are allowed, I know Jakeleg didn't mind people giving out the password so long as it was given to known goodjers and they promised to take the steps to get on the distribution list. Also, the person giving the password out ran the risk of being banned if the person they gave the password out to either A) then gave it out to non-gooders or B) was an ass.

* Stengah's thoughts are not the official stance and are in no way related to those of EvilHomer3k. EvilHomer3k is the definitive source for password distribution protocol for his server.

That said, I don't imagine this will come up much, as it really doesn't take many posts to be an intern.

With my recent promotion to Intern and my expanding TF2 habit, I was wondering if someone could PM the password so I can join in on TF2 nights. I'm (pretty) sure any of the regular L4Ders in GWJ would vouch for me.

Finally, could anyone recommend some relatively decent servers? The L4D group has made me spoiled with always having a great group of people to play with. And feel free to shoot me an invite on Steam if I'm online.

What if the mod adjusted based on how stalemated the match was? Like defense has 3 engineers, up the initial ubercharge type of thing?

I have made the TF2 Group private. Currently any existing member can invite members. I can make that officers only, if we like (with damn near everyone being officers).

Also, I'd like to thank evilseed for nudging me. If you (as a community) need me to do anything with the group, don't hesitate to poke me. I often don't read much of the TF2 threads (these things grow like... like... something that grows really, really fast).

Edit: Also, I have an nigh overwhelming urge to delete the group comments about Gaald. I feel it would be truly fitting.

Ignore me, opened this up hours ago and didn't refresh.

How many posts does it take to get to intern?

I wish there was a way for me to view my post count.
And intern is probably like 20-50 or so.

Certis keeps these numbers pretty close to the vest so as not to encourage spamming. He recently pulled back the curtains a little.
That being said, I think Stengah's post above does a good job explaining the intent of EvilHomer's policy. If you play with us on the pub, we recognize you, and you're not an ass it shouldn't be an issue playing on the private server. Generally it's the same group of folks. The big benefit to the private server is the availability of custom maps (and, well, no icky pubbies).

New map request: CTF_Snowdrift

This map is awesome. It is not a typical ctf map. It is an attack/defend map where you have to take the intel to 4 different Capture points to win. And it's not just a specific route you have to run the intel to and can keep going. The intel stops at each cap point for about 30 seconds before you can pick it up again and take it to the next point to allow the defense time to recover.

Attack/defend CTF? Sounds like a different gametype entirely.

Sounds like an unusual combination of VIP, Payload and Attack/defend. I'm definitely interested in trying this out

I vote yes as long as there aren't any custom particle effects. That makes subsequent maps unplayable for me.

Looks promising.

FTFY. Looks like an awesome map
