The Secret World

Not sure if anyone here has been following this or if anyone is interested in starting they made a wiki for all the information and all the new clues as they get solved on the forums are put into here so you can see whats been done up to now. This is a lot of fun and sometimes you can (or at least i do) lose hours just going through all the information and trying to solve the puzzles. This has to be the coolest way to get people integrated and familiar with a game i've seen yet.

Heres a couple videos from PaX done by TTH

Three Secret Societies

"Light RTS elements", leaderboards, and more PvP info on The Secret World

Still crossing my fingers for this; trailers, whilst intriguing, indicate a slightly different direction than the one I was expecting, a little more Huxley and a little less Cthulu maybe; we'll see - of all the offerings in development, this one seems to have the potential of taking MMOs somewhere new and moving the genre on a step.

I dont get the Huxley reference because this isnt going to be a FPS based MMO. It will be sandbox'ish with skill based levels.

The trailers are just showing off the societies and a look at the world.

I still get the Cthulu vibe with the way they're handling the 3 different factions and making them work against each other while trying to fight the evil in the world at the same time. Power hungry people getting themselves into trouble because of their greed/desire is awesome With them not allowing the 3 factions to intermingle they're forcing you to pick sides early and to perpetuate the power struggle.

Glad to hear its not going down the FPS route in any way, the look/palette in the trailers is very reminiscent to what they've been doing with Huxley, and I wasn't expecting as much inter-faction stuff, more state vs enlightened maybe. With so much of the early talk being around anima/magic from the 'hollow earth' it was a little jarring to see a shotgun being the defensive weapon of choice. Just hoping the paranormal themes remain central I guess, and it doesn't turn into a 3 way factional battle, with the otherworldly elements being little more than set dressing; I'm hopeful

EDIT: Gah, submitted partial.

I've been anticipating this since I saw the first concept art and info a couple years ago. I hope it really turns out into something very different from what we have nowadays and I believe Funcom usually do a superb job on creating an awesome atmosphere on their games. That's what I'm looking for here. I loved Anarchy Online and even with all the initial problems, I do enjoy Age of Conan quite a lot.

And by the way, I'm Illuminati!

Templar here.

While I appreciate that even the most, arguably, traditional of the 3 societies seem to be given into the embracing of modern weaponry, do we really have to paint crosshairs on our uniforms?

I am happy with her painting whatever she wants wherever she wants.

I get the impression the factions will be able to intermingle in PvE.

They changed their mind or just teasing because these are the 2 most recent quotes on it.

"Our goal is to divide players," said Erling Ellingsen.
"In fact, the idea of secret organizations running the world is central to TSW, according to Tornquist. You won't be playing with people from the other societies, ever. Sure, an Illuminati player could walk into the Templar headquarters, but they'd be attacked on sight, no questions asked."

It's early enough for them to change their minds a bunch of times yet.

Change their minds? Be real. MMOs never change anything pre beta, beta or post beta. Its all set in stone!

Much too hard to chisel the slate clean and recarve stuff.

Aaannddd predictably, I didn't like the questions, or the groups. It decided I was Illluminati. *shrug*

delayed, possibly to 2011 now due to layoffs

I saw that on www.gamesindustry.biz - quite disappointing, if not entirely unexpected.

Actually if its 11 it makes it a bit easier for me to focus on SWTOR completely when it comes out (unless it gets pushed to 11). This is the only other game right now vying for my full attention after ToR. There's others i'll check out but just to see how they do what they do.

Well for starters their financials showed that they should be close to starting beta around March. Yesterday Tornquist tweeted about some new info today and on the forums they just hinted that it'll be at Gamespot...

Getting a little excited here...

Nothing fancy... just talks about the Dragon society some.

This game has me pretty excited, not Star Wars excited, but excited. Much potential here.

Hmm, that reminds me of something. Something...Funcom made, maybe? Their last game....what was it? Hmm.

Love the idea. Now just deliver the quality content.

I'm almost Star Wars excited. If i hadnt grown up with the Star Wars universe i'd just might be more. I've followed the puzzles and spent hours going over lore and all the background info they've offered just to introduce the world.

I know they've upped their game as far as being able to deliver it. All the new stuff thats showing up in AoC is from the development of this game. Still not completely convinced they wont screw it up, but i'm definitely not worried either. Not yet anyway.

Another Christmas card for the year...

Good art, but I hope they don't rely on zombies heavily in game. There's so much other lore to tap that I'd hate to see a current fad hamper.

All the zombies they've shown have had a lovecraftian spin to them. One of these even has a Innsmouth on one of their shirts as another point of homage. Page 4 they show some other shots of zombies possibly in the game.

That does make me feel better.

Not sure if anyone else has been following but there's been another round of an ARG and it led us to www.kingsmouth.com and from there it seems we have our first hint at beta will be Apr 3 2010

This is getting fun... So we come across Kingsmouth.com which is the website to a fake city (possible in game one) but it still talks about all these different things... From that we now have 3 pretend people from the town that just created Twitter accounts and a blog reference pops up to the town. Its fun and disturbing that i'm now watching out for info from fake people.

ARGS are fun, although it has been awhile since I followed one...
