Borderlands (catch all)

Can someone explain to me how a shotgun remains a shotgun once you stop putting shotgun shells in it? It can't just be an unrifled barrel, else everything from muskets to grenade launchers would be shotguns.

Well your still putting shotgun shells in it: what changes is what is fired out of the shotgun shell. In real life they have shotgun shells that shoot small needles called flechettes, or even a flamethrower round that shoots out a jet of flame. These are all still shotgun rounds.

A shotgun by any other name can still kick a lot of ass!

Do you call it a shotgun if you are shooting slugs and not birdshot?
I am pertty sure the ammo does not denote the type of gun.

With each post you make in this thread, it seems that you are more and more determined to not like this game, so here's a piece of advice: don't buy it.

Or lightning bolts made of shotguns.

Bah! You stole my thunder.

Or bullets made out of bees that shoot dogs out of their mouths!

Eh, those videos just didn't do anything for me. I kind of see where ThinJ is coming from, there's something about standing right up next to an enemy and unloading multiple clips at their face without them dropping that rubs me the wrong way.

It guess we still call them shotguns because its the most common use and it whats they are build to do. I mean you could load a flare into a shotgun and it wouldn't suddenly become a flaregun. And we do have purpose build flareguns which we don't call anything else.

I want to fire a shotgun that shoots little shotguns at shotgun shooting shotgun wielding shotgun-shaped monsters from the shotgun shooting shotgun mounts on my buggy constructed of shotguns.

Shotgunshotgunshotgun.

Splitscreen eh? This just got interesting.

Yeah but can you do split screen and Online at the same time?

I see what you did there.

I think a shotgun is overkill for killing slugs.

This was an off-handed comment I would have made at that moment in response to any shotgun-related comment, and was not intended against a slight against the game - of which I am admittedly quite cynical. Sorry if you think I'm bashing it and have a problem with that.

I'm going to wait to try it to see if I like it. I want it to be very good. I wanted Hellgate to be very good, too, and every time I get excited about Borderlands I remember Hellgate.

Poor Lobster. Don't worry, little buddy; with time, all wounds heal.

(Unless you're a freak who is unable to forget things. Then time just sorta adds new wounds to the pile.)

I think I remember reading that yes you can. Sadly I don't have a source.

So you didn't like the Big Daddies either? Or the Hunters in Halo? Or Alma? Or any boss fight, ever?

Is anyone interested in getting a 360 group together to play Coop. I don't think I'm interested apart from the coop. If so, are you planning on a release day purchase? We could always wait through the fall rush and pick it up for cheap in spring. Maybe it's too early to decide for most people.

I'd be up for some co-op in this game. This probably won't be a release day pickup for me, but pretty soon afterwards for sure.

I'll be picking it up. but haven't decided on a day one pickup yet. But I'm easily swayed.

Past performance is no indication of future performance.

I'm planning on getting release day for the 360, still not sure if I'm taking that day off of work yet. I'll play co-op with people. I've already got 3 friends interested enough to buy it.

Hmm, splitscreen co-op.... makes it even more tempting.

So, interesting story regarding the game on kotaku: http://kotaku.com/5368941/borderlands-unique-and-semiofficial-preorder-bonus

The game's creative director is asking for tweets with proof that you preordered the game. In return, he says he'll play with you around release and give you some loot.

As you can see in the update, it started as a joke, but given the strong response he has apparently become quite serious about the whole thing. I personally did not have a twitter account...I signed up, and I *think* I got my picture to him.

Well, the game's acheivements have been announced for a while now, and one of them is called "And They'll Tell Two Friends" which is received by "Play[ing] in a co-op game with either an employee of Gearbox or someone who has this achievement." I guess this acheivement won't be as hard to get as it seemed.

Yeah Mercenaries 2 did the same viral achievement thing.

Thankfully it is possible to rent Borderlands, which I plan to do. I wish I would have had that option with Hellgate but what can I say, it was PC exclusive and I bought the hype :(.

A lot of games do this viral achievement crap. Basically to get one you just wait 3 months, then go play online with anybody. Chances are the contagion has spread far and wide.

Destructoid reports that the PC version will be available on Steam and will have extra features, like the ability to export neat guns to a .jpg.

I'm GUESSING that .jpg will just be a picture used for showing off. If you could turn the .jpg back into an actual weapon, that would break just about everything, ever.

Also of note in that article is that the PC version will have mouse designed menu and inventory systems, which should make some of us happy.

Thank zombie jezus! I've struggled with gamepad only systems before and its like trying to play a piano after getting your hand stuck in a bear trap.
