Nice work on the server EH3K. Since it's for whatever it is that's above "coffee grinder" status people, I guess I'll ask, what's it take to be that next level of GWJer?

Something like 100 forum posts, I think. Try not to spam, but there are lots of threads you can throw in pithy one sentence posts on, as well as participating in the monstrous TF2 thread.

I didnt think it was that many. I thought it was like 20 or something until you move up to intern.

Is it even 100? I thought it was 10 or something small like that.

Heh, at least I'm not the only one who doesn't know. You'd think that in almost 2 and a half years I'd have gotten at least 10 posts in. Oh well, I guess I'm just a lurker at heart.

I don't know if you've ever played on stans but expect 2 weeks of adjustment as a spy.

I hate having this mocking me with it's unplayed state.
I have none of the goodies or unlocks. But I must ask, friendly fire on this server?

Friendly fire completely doesn't work in TF2. We tried it.

Among other problems, you can't find spies.

I really don't see the issue. I mean, we hardly have any spies on Stan's anyway!

Think I would qualify to get a spot on the email list?

What Malor said about FF.

Also, don't worry about the unlocks, they are just alternatives to the out-of-the-box weapons. For example, the pyro's backburner does 100% crits to an enemy's back but does less damage than the regular flamethrower otherwise and does not have the flamethrower's air blast. Or the fireman's axe does 100% crit on an enemy that's on fire but less damage than the regular axe. Stuff like that.

Hats are purely cosmetic and just seem to cause a lot of drama

This game is very easy to just jump into.

Nitpick: I don't think the backburner does less base damage than the flamethrower...

It's supposed to do guaranteed crits from the back, but no crits from any other position and no air blast. It used to have +50 health, which I really miss...

Yeah. The backburner probably needs a bit of a buff. I used to use it exclusively, but when they added the ability to extinguish flames to the flamethrower, I switched over. I tried playing with the BB a little bit the past couple of nights, and definitely felt gimped.

Yeah, everyone stop using the Backburner so I can once again run away from pyros properly.

I don't know, for me, the absolute best feeling I get from this game is when I get around to the back of the other team and proceed to burn through them all. That makes the BB the best weapon in my book, period. It doesn't happen all that often on Stan's but when it does, it's totally, totally awesome.

But then you miss all those nice shiny points for extinguishing people with the air blast.

I started using air blast because it allows me to live longer against soldiers, demos, and if needed control the direction of other players to a degree. I've got a lot of kills because i was able to poof someone away from health/door or keep them off the point long enough for me to cap.

It looks like Evilhomer uploaded pl_waste to the server. Make sure you download it, since right now the server will kick you if you don't have the maps all ready.

Ah! Here's the map list I was looking for. My whole "download the maps one at a time as they pop unto the server" dynamic really wasn't working for me. Especially since by the time I'd get it and back on the server, the map would change.

The following maps were added for tonights scheduled TF2 Monday Night game. They should be on the web site but if not let me know. I'll check with Jake about pl_waste. Glacier was added previously.

Waste is a cart push map but both teams can push the cart. I believe it is based on cp_waste. Observatory is a CP map that was "inspired by steel". It has only 3 points rather than 5 and, like Steel, the goal is to cap the last point but capping the first two make that easier. ktf_innercity_v1 is a CTF map which seems to be combined with KOTH. Someone gets the flag and the timer counts down like KOTH. I believe you win by keeping the flag for the allotted time.

Just a suggestion but perhaps we should limit ourselves to about three or so new maps in any given week? People want to play the custom maps that aren't available on the pub already. Also there isn't enough time to play through so many new maps in one night anyway. Downloading a ton of new maps every week to keep up and make sure you don't get kicked off the server gets to be a little much too.

Well the issue last night was just that Waste wasn't on the server to download in game. I think the rest of them are on jakeleg's server and will download when you go to play the game instead of kicking you?

pl_waste is on my map download web server (and has been for a couple of days).

Edit: I re-uploaded it. Maybe it was corrupted?

That is a good idea. I think we could do one new custom map per week. But we can wait a few weeks before we add any more.

I could disable some of the maps for tonight and re-enable them for Friday. That way there would be a few new ones for tonight but the whole night would not be new maps. My choices would be inntercity and observatory (leaving glacier enabled since it's an "old" map).

Would it be possible to turn off a bunch of stock maps too, at least just for tonight? It would be nice if the new maps came up in the RTV without someone having to remember to nominate them.

Especially since I never vote for a map whose name I don't recognize. Unless someone tells me to vote for it. We could try that too.

I just posted an announcement and noticed a place for server passwords, and it says they are hidden from public view. Why not make the tf2 group private and post updated passwords there?

That's what I was thinking too although I wasn't sure Steam had the functionality. It's certainly a lot easier than having everyone sign up for Twitter as suggested in the official TF2 thread. The only problem I can foresee is limiting the number of admins so if someone should ever need to be removed they can be without having to re-do the entire group.

Thirding this. It would vastly decrease the amount of logistics involved in getting the PW out to folks, although some cleanup of the group to remove the unwanted might be needed.

That's probably still considerably less work than the current system. In theory, anyways.

Someone would have to approve the signups but once that is done it sounds like it would be fairly simple to update the password. I'm all for it.

Let the group admins do it. Actually makes group admin useful for more than spamming Steam notices
