Recommend me a new mouse.

Pages

Well when I decided to build my own new computer a few months ago I picked up this mouse. Unfortunately for me yesterday the wire started going. Now whenever I move it left or right it looses it's connection to the computer. This does make TF2 and L4D somewhat dificult.

One option I'm considering is this one. I had one before and it served me well until after a few years of service the left button decided to double click alot.

Any suggestions on a mouse?

Logitech G5. There are more fancy mouse options out there, but this thing is a wonderful FPS mouse and won't break the bank. Good durability too.

I (heart) Razer mice.

Love my Diamondback 3G.

It's strange - I have fairly big hands, but I like the smaller Razer mice far more than the big ol' Logitech mice. Had an MX518 before my Razer. Good mouse, but I was much happier when I moved to the Razer.

All about the Logitech mice for me. The last revision of the G5 is the best mouse I've ever used. From what I can tell, the G7 is a newer revision of the G5 so it should be a great mouse. I had a brief affair with the Microsoft Habu a while back which was essentially just a Razer mouse in a much more comfortable shell, but my issue with that one ended up being my issue with all of Razer's products.

There's nothing particularly wrong with Razer's mice or keyboards or anything else from a design standpoint... but their drivers continue to screw me over. It's inevitable. It doesn't matter how awesome a product might be or how great I might think it is when I first get it, the drivers eventually freak out in one way or another and I stop using whatever it is.

This has been true over two entirely different system builds with two mice (Habu included) and a keyboard. A freaking keyboard had driver issues.

G9. Love it!

Logitech G5

Its a great mouse. Good feel, plenty of buttons, fits well into most hands. The Logitech G7 is basically a very slightly better version, the main difference I believe being that the G7 is a cordless mouse with rechargeable batteries. If you can deal with a cord I'd just go with the G5, its less expensive and otherwise just as good.

I'll second the G5, the only thing to keep in mind with the G7 if you swing that way is that the mouse is smooth, unlike the texture of the G5 or, say, ANY OTHER FREAKING MOUSE. I did not enjoy long gameplay sessions with it simply because it was smooth and got slippery.

No problems with my G5 rev2, though.

Logitech MX518 is the best (wired) mouse ever made. Ever.

I tend to think that wired mice are better. The MX518 I'm running is quite good; turning the mouse resolution way up, and OS and game sensitivity way down, has improved my sniping tremendously. I think it looks lame and stupid, with this faux-distressed bullsh*t going on, but it plays really well, so I'm happy with it.

Further, if you're a believer in 500Hz polling, you can't usually do that with a wireless. And you always have to be thinking about the charge on a wireless mouse. Wired mice always work; you don't have to remember to put them on the charge station.

I actually really love my Microsoft Sidewinder. I didn't think I would but It's been excellent. I bought a Habu when they first came out and it lasted 1 year before it started to freak out. After doing some research I found out Razor drivers are notoriously flaky. So I am staying away from that company until I know it's been sorted out.

Personally, I have a Saitek Cyborg mouse. It looks either ridiculously stupid or retro-robot chic awesome, depending on who you talk to, but it is extremely comfortable and great for FPS games and anything requiring precision input. You can even adjust the length of it by selecting it in the software, and a little motorized thing extends the size of the mouse!

I have a Razer Deathadder and highly recommend it if you're right handed and it fits...

Razer Copperhead. As some people pointed out, drivers can be flaky (if folks are referring to the config application that is, the mouse has behaved like a completely normal mouse otherwise), but it really is a good mouse. The config application is annoying in that it's not very intuitive as far as custom setups go. I prefer to have my thumb buttons configured to use as my PTT button for TF2 and Ventrilo, and the config application took some convincing to save it this way. But it is better than any other mouse I've had.

I've grown increasingly disappointed with recent Logitech products, and I've gotten over my cordless mouse/keyboard phase. It adds an extra layer of maintenance I'd rather not deal with. My keyboard now is a simple Microsoft model. The Copperhead is a relatively simple, albeit well-performing, mouse.

Add another Razer fan to the mix. Truly ambidextrous mice, solid side buttons, good button customization. I have a Diamondback, 3G. If you are looking at gaming mice, the Diamondback and Copperhead are among the finest. And unlike Logitec, no non-essential software, thank you very little for the Jukebox software, dicks. And having it auto-update is ok, but I am not worried about having the latest driver for a plug and play device. I love your wireless trackball, but damn you.

I have a MX 518 in a box, but it has an awkward configuragion for the 3, 6,7 buttons all for different gestures on the wheel, click down, left, right. I found it impossible to make a button 3 press on it(and almost useless for lefties as the 4 and 5 buttons are made for the right handed thumb).

Huh? I took my MX518 out of the box, plugged it in, and was admitted to Valhalla.

Maybe it's because I'm right-handed, maybe it's because I have small hands, but not only did I have a hard time even understanding this quote, I'm pretty sure I had the opposite experience. (But I'm not sure, because I'm not sure exactly what you said.)

Basically you can use some config software, but it also works if you just plug it in. /MX518 five

The nice thing about running the config software is that it lets you crank the resolution up on the mouse; running 1800dpi but very low sensitivity settings in games gives you really, really pinpoint control. I used to have an issue where the minimum aimpoint movement was five or six pixels, which was causing me noticeable trouble; I had to strafe to get the aim where I wanted. Now I just point and shoot.

I'll have to profess my undying love of the G9 here too.

Another fan of the Mx518 here.

That said, I hope Logitech follows Microsoft's lead and ditches the clickiness of the mousewheel. I've grown to appreciate a glass-smooth mousewheel the few times I've used them.

The Habu had a squishy mousewheel and I never quite got used to it. I want my clearly defined clicky spots.

Then we must remain forever enemies.

Clicky mouse wheels and cute cuddly chocobos forever!

I probably need a mouse upgrade even though my current one hasn't shown any sign of failing after 5 years of use.

I have used the G7 which is a great mouse, but now am using the G9x which is great for FPS.

Clicks for ever!

Amen.
But don't buy it! It's an enabler mouse! It made me buy several PC games I wouldn't normally buy just because playing with it feels so good

Infidel.

Invariably I end up with a mouse that instead of switching from one scroll spot to another at the click, it switches between clicks. So slight pressure on the mousewheel can switch between scroll positions even though it doesn't click. Really bugs me.

My Logitech G5 does this on occasion. It is a bit annoying.

I guess I'll be one of the few to recommend a Microsoft Mouse. I don't know about gaming, but I like the Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 (or it goes by Wireless Optical Mouse 5000). The middle click was a little stiff when I got it, but its easier now. I've also gotten used to the slightly high 4th and 5th mouse buttons. I appreciate the wireless feature because the cord doesn't pull on the mouse and it feels more comfortable.

I suppose ill throw in my 2 cents.I'll jump on the Microsoft bandwagon too. I had used the intellimouse line forever and always preferred them. I use a Sidewinder X5 at the moment and its probably the best mouse i have used yet. Technically i think its a intellimouse with shiny buttons but i like the button layout and adjustable dps. Now if you wanna wait a week or 2 i think Coolermaster is releasing their fancy new Storm Sentinel mouse dual laser 5600 dps sometime in October.
