Brutal Legend Catch All

Blah. This may finally motivate me to get a 360. I can totally understand focusing on consoles for refining UI and input, but not just because of game type. He must have been glossing over details.

Also, Kuddles-- sorry that I just found out there wasn't going to be a PC release.

It's fine, I was more worried that we were going to regurgitate a discussion that already made up the beginning of this thread as well as several others and always takes a dark turn. Wasn't directing it to anyone in general.

It won't be released on the PC? That's just silly. What's the difference between an XBox 360 and a PC with an XBox 360 controller?

What? No PC version? I've always hated you, Double Fine! Now I know why.

Please, no hate. No one ever said there WASN'T going to be a PC version.

So there will be a PC version ... eventually.

Also, I have to point out more of Tim's great humor displayed in this post on their front page.

Let’s start a Brütal standee photo collection thread. Skip on down to your local game store and take a picture of yourself with the Brütal Legend standee that you hopefully find there, and post your picture on our forums.

If you don’t find a standee there, BURN THE STORE TO THE GROUND.

Ha ha. Just kidding. Do not burn anything. But maybe ask them where the hell their awesome Brütal Legend standee is. And shake your fist. And in your other hand, hold up a burning photo of their store for them to think about. Or take a picture of someone burning a store, and show that to them. Or take that photo of the burning store and make a cardboard standee out of it, and then take your picture in front of it, and then post the picture here.

That is certainly an optimistic reading of an intentionally vague statement.

We never didn't want to not say that there could never be a PC version at some point that we aren't going specify in the future.

Quintin Stone only refers to himself in 3rd person now!

Also, I so need to download the demo still.

How else could you interpret it? Anything other than an outright "NO, Brutal Legend will not be released on PC" can only be interpreted as "yes, we will release it on PC at some point" or at the very least "maybe, if the game sells well on the consoles, we'll port it to PC." Not that I care at this point. Sure, I'd much rather play it on my PC, but I have a 360, so I'll play it on that.

He does not.

I hereby suggest that in retailiation, we all refer to Quintin in the 1st person.

"That Quintin needs to be punched in my face!"

That... sounds confusing?

I wish I'd gotten a chance to play this at PAX. I did watch some others playing a bit.

It is vague, which is the entire point. It puts Double Fine in a position where they can make any decision on the issue and never have to contradict their earlier statements. Reading intentions into it is meaningless, as it is nothing but conjecture.

If you want conjecture for conjecture, maybe they don't want to alienate PC gamers any more by directly stating the fact. Or at the very least leave their options open even if a PC port isn't under serious consideration. But again, nothing but meaningless conjecture.

I'm really interested in this game. I just really wish I could try the "demo"... I like everything I have seen about this game I'm just not sure I'll be interested in the game play. I really sence this is the sort of game I would really enjoy watching somebody play.

That and I have a hard time playing something that isn't on the PC. I have this nagging feeling that I'm wasting my time when I could be playing with friends on Steam...

PC piracy is pretty bad. They may figure that not releasing it there may help their console sales. If they release it quite a bit later, say after Christmas, they may hope to get a bump in sales from the new version, instead of a major decrease across all their platforms.

Me, I'd buy it either way, but I get the distinct impression I'm in a weird subset of the gamer community.

Demo is available on Live now for all gold users. No pre-order required. I just queued it up to download for when I get home.

Exclusivity is not metal.

The same thing happened with Mass Effect. They sell a lot more console copies up front if they downplay the likelihood of a PC port. The 360 exclusivity hype for Mass Effect is why I picked up a 360 actually, and they may be relying on a similar effect with Brutal Legend.

Agreed that it's not metal, but I'm confident that a PC port will be announced after xmas.

I think I'm going to skip the demo - I'm already sold on the game, and there's sufficently glowing praise of it in this thread already to confirm my decision.

I'd rather have it be fresh on arrival.

Ditto. I've pre-ordered and all but skipping the demo. I'd rather clear my plate up now and then dedicate my game-time to BL when it arrives.

Double ditto. Between now and Rocktober 13th, I'll be making a concentrated effort to play through some games on my Pile (not necessarily finish them, but at least get my money's worth) so that I'll be totally ready for BL.

Just finished the 360 demo.

Awesome stuff. I'm sold.

Activision is going to be kicking themselves (or firing someone) over losing this one.

The demo's in my queue, right now. I am not sold on this game (every game has to fight for my gaming-dollar this winter) and I'm gonna try it out to see if it's for me. I believe the glowing praise in this thread, but I gotta see for myself.

Just wrapped up the demo. I was interested in this game before, but the presentation in the demo is just so great it has now jumped to day one purchase for me. I have not laughed out loud this much at a game since, what do you know? Psychonauts. So much love has been put into the character and level designs.

Keep in mind that Double Fine is a relatively small developer. Now that EA is publishing, it is more likely that there is a PC port in the works or at least planned, which EA could probably do themselves. It's just unlikely that it could have come out alongside the console versions even if they wanted it to.

I'm just annoyed that I still have to wait 1 more week for the demo I thought I was going to get to play last week. I don't have the money for a gold account right now, especially considering I never play online anyway.

Played through the demo. I am now a believer. The presentation and atmosphere alone are enough to get my $60. Even if I only play this game for a week or two, these guys deserve my money.

To play the demo.. or not to play the demo.

So, onto the procurement process. Anybody know of particularly sweet pre-order deals (for 360)? I'd normally just go the Amazon route, get the free shipping and call it done, but this is a rare game that I'm keen to *play* on day-1.

This game owns.... That really is all I have to say. I think it has to do with the metal. It is all about the metal.

I'm about to take a bunch of trash to Gamestop to use towards a pre-order.
