Bacon

Someone sent me a picture of bacon. It's nice to know some people truly care.

Apple bacon pie. Apple. Bacon. Pie. I have my next baking experiment lined up, it seems. Also, when I make the crust, I will use bacon salt.

Also, Google image search has informed me that a surprising number of young ladies have deigned to don bacon bikinis. I'm not sure if this is for good, or for awesome.

I think I'm in love.

Both?

I really want to try buying a pork belly and making my own bacon. It sounds ridiculously awesome. Slow roasting over a BBQ, listening to that baby sizzle, mmm.

IIRC, you cook it twice... roasting once as a big delicious chunk-o-pig, slicing it to whatever thickness you want, and then cooking the slices again in a pan. I need to review the directions, but it looked absolutely incredible.

Well I've been gone for a while but I am happy to see that the most important thread that is not about games has survived. Once again proving that GWJ is the pinnacle of success. Nevermind the fact that we had a successful Xmas Secret Santa...with bacon.

Tomorrow (Saturday) is International Bacon Day!!!!

Here's the official blog (the above is a news posting). Get frying/roasting/baking/sauteing!

Mmmmm Bacon. Part of the 30 pounds of bacon my wife and I cooked for about 50 teenagers & adults at a recent summer camp:

Hooray, bacon!

I'm making a bunch of bacon right now for potato skins and stuffed mushrooms. Awesome.

This thread demands a link to bacn.com.

Bacon flavored veggie ham??

My suggestion for making bacon apple pie for today's family party fell on deaf ears.

Geez. I think a few of my arteries hardened up just from clicking this thread

"Vegetarian ham" is a self-contradictory phrase, like "watercolor oil painting", "wooden concrete", or "delicious Big Mac". Anyone who buys that should be removed from reality for causing paradox.

Must ... cling to ... reality. Causing ... paradox...

Yeah, vegetarian ham is for people like me who were raised eating real ham and have become vegetarian. They should probably call it "vegetarian ham-like substance," but that wouldn't fit as well on the packaging.

Speaking of contradictions of terms, there's a t-shirt company called Kosher Ham: http://www.kosherham.com

I dunno. Big Macs can be tasty if you're making it at home, with proper ingredients.

Have you considered a new family? Or lobotomys?

There was no time, we had to get back to the whale watching boat.

McChuck and I have had so-called "bacon beers," which usually are smoked brown ales. Some have an intriguing aroma, but it's difficult to finish the pint without nausea.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I saw this sign at Cincinnati's Oktoberfest this weekend:

Of course I couldn't let such a thing go unexperienced. Here's what was delivered:

It was delicious. The slaw was warm, and the cabbage was still a little crunchy. The broth was a little sweet, but had a really nice vinegar kick to it. The bacon added salty and smoky to the mix, finishing off an amazing dish. I think I will be trying to reproduce this at home.

Is that bacon-slaw creation a Cincinnati local thing?

The only other thing I know of that comes from here is Cincinnati style chili, which is revolting. It looks like someone ate a jar of cheap spaghetti sauce, a half pound of ground beef, drank a glass of water and then barfed it all back up onto a plate of cheap spaghetti noodles. And hey, it even tastes like vomit!

*note: the bacon-slaw stuff actually sounds pretty good even if it doesn't look particularly great.

I've not seen it anywhere else, but I've not been to a big Oktoberfest thing anywhere else either.
I'm choosing to ignore your attempt to sully this thread with the garbage they decided to call chili here. I'm a recent transplant here and I guess you have to be a native to get it.

No, I've lived here my whole life. It's always sucked.

Even bacon can't save that crap.

See Hot Bacon Slaw above. We love you, even if she doesn't. We love Hot Bacon Slaw more. It's because of the bacon you see.
