Torchlight Catch-All

Pages

Is anyone following this game? Torchlight looks like a Diablo type game made by some of those same people since the team is made up of some of the remains of the Flagship team. The game will be out Oct 27 and cost 20$ for download.
Shack has a trailer as well.

Updated the thread title.

How to share saves between PCs (requires DropBox (free))

You can also copy the mods and save folders from
%appdata%\Roaming\runic games\torchlight
to the corresponding directory on another computer (make backups first if you want to keep anything).

I have an eye on it. Not much is happening though, however it looks to be a promising title.

I am very looking towards this game. It is the same crew that was working on Mythos before Flagship fell apart (Mythos was will in beta, it was Hellgate London that was tanking the company - different development crew). If it delivers a moderate price fun game that ties us over until D3, then it will have served its purpose. If it has more legs than that, bonus.

My thoughts exactly. $20 is a good price and I'll be keeping an eye out for it.

I wasn't a big fan of Fate, but Mythos was a big improvement on their model. If they've kept iterating on that (and it sounds like they have), this could be pretty amazing.

Agreed Mythos was a vast improvement and this definately has my eye. Nothing like a good old dungeon crawler when the mood strikes and the price point is a definate plus!

I'm keeping an eye on this and Deathspank. Something mindless that I can jump into as time allows is just what I'm looking for.

Mythos was indeed a very enjoyable game, and the perfect holdover for D3 IMO. I can't wait for this one to come out, although I do wonder if they'll release it to Steam at all.

I never got into the Mythos beta. I'm still slightly a sad panda over it considering how good it looked and all the positive feedback.
This is good interview that sums up Torchlight and gives you pretty gameplay to look at.

Sounds like a steal for $20.

I checked it out at PAX, seemed really cool, I'll almost certainly get it, since it's only $20.

I am really hoping this will turn out to be the thing that tides me over to D3.

I really like the vid of the vanquisher's abilities. Watch the mod tools vids too. That is goingto be one of the most exciting parts are the mod tools.

Sounds cool but no multiplayer kinda dampens the appeal.

That was my first thought too. Still though, I might consider it for $20. The only Diablo style game I've played since Titan Quest is Sacred 2 and it's failing miserably to keep me interested.

Yea Sacred 2 is a complete dud.

This game is a proof of concept for an mmo version that will be released a year later. There are being published by Perfect World so that lends some credibility to the mmo coming to fruition.

I believe they've said it'll come to steam and other services 30 days after releasing it on their own website.

I'm pretty excited about this as it has a bunch of ex Blizzard North guys working on it and I really like their design philosophy in terms of their intent to make it easy to play in short bursts. Sounds just about perfect for the way that I'm going with my playing habits. I got to Titan Quest a bit late, so I should be able to roll straight from that into this:)

Sweet, that's worth waiting a few weeks for.

One thing to keep in mind is that this is a single player launch to lead into multiplayer, F2PMMO style even.

Travis Baldtree knows how to make a fun action rpg. I don't even have to try a demo to know that Torchlight is a must-buy, and frankly going to be a steal at $20. I'll be in from day 1.

Ditto, love the style of this game and I'm in dire need of a new loot-a-thon.

Yeah, this genre is seriously lacking in current quality titles.

The only thing that bums me out about Torchlight is that I thought it would be released in September and now I have to wait through most of October for it =(

I hope this game fills the void that Sacred 2 failed to do.

What void would that be? They seem fairly different besides the fact that they're in the same genre.

My "whack lots of stuff and pick up their loot and put some of it on" void.

Interview with Max Schaefer. Not really anything new but cool none-the-less. Plus its more cool bg music and gameplay video.

End of Oct is too far away. And as a matter of fact I hope they don't jinx themselves as HG:L was released on Halloween too!

Oh man, that's not cool. "Available for direct download on October 27th...available everywhere else like Steam a month later..."

Gah! I have to choose between the convenience of Steam and my need for immediate gratification!

get it on direct download and then add a link to it from steam.
The onlt thing missing is the online backup but its not that hard to burn a dvd.

Between this and DeathSpank (as mentioned), I'm gonna get my fill of colorful killing before Diablo III comes out. Hell, if the internets plays these two click-n-kill games, they'll look at Diablo III and take back all their rainbow comments. Right? The internets is capable of saying they were wrong. Right? Just this once? . . . . . . . . . Damn.

Definitely looking forward to this one. It picked up some positive press at Pax. Wish it had some multi-player functionality but I guess an early release is better than waiting another year for the MMO version.
