*Rumor* Upcoming Wii price cut to $199

According to a tip and blurry photo of a Toys R US ad sent to Kotaku, the Wii's price will drop to $199 at the end of this month.

If accurate, that would mean a price drop announcement from Nintendo sometime within the next two weeks, possibly during the Tokyo Game Show. Nintendo won't be exhibiting officially at the yearly game show, but will be present at the Kyoto Cross Media Experience 2009.

I never bought a Wii, and I doubt a $50 price cut will make me decide to, but for anyone who's been considering a Wii, it looks like it might finally drop in price.

Once they drop it to $150 I may bite. Until then, there are a load of games coming out for the 360 and PS3 that will take up enough of my time.

There are only 2 games I would like the Wii for - the Metroid collection and the forthcoming Other M game. And since Shadow Complex came out, my Metroid fix has been taken care of, for now. I think I can hold out until the Wii is last gen...

At this point the Wii is really showing its age with it using last gen hardware. I recently tried the new Wii Sports Resort at my Walmart the other day I was just floored how terrible the graphics were. Right now only a price drop to $150 would get me to even think about it. And really the only game I want to play on it is Mario Galaxy. So even then it would be iffy.

The Nintendo Wii doesn't get as much playtime in our house, but it's still a unique family experience that neither the 360 (or PS3) have been able to emulate. This is great for folks who held out. We went bowling a weekend ago for the first time in ages. A few days later I woke up early one morning to some sounds I didnt remember... Turns out real bowling had re-awakened my wife's interest in Wii Sports bowling and she was trying to get back up to her old mastery of it.

Not surprisingly Wii Sports Resort is on order now with an extra plus dongle. Amazon/Nintendo offered a nice deal for the combo. (like 15 dollars off between amazon's discounted price and a 10 dollar off coupon they mailed out).. so the extra dongle was like 5 dollars.

I really like the system. If they do a DS-like product update and give it some upscaling / hd capabilities, it'd be hard to resist.

I love my Wii, if they come out with a high def version I'd buy it on release day. It's been my favorite console since the SNES.

p.s. I am somewhat of a Nintendo fanboy

I do suppose this is good news for the 12 people who want one and have not gotten it yet.

Still not worth it to me. The only thing I'd use it for are Virtual Console and maybe a couple of Nintendo Nostalgia games (Super Mario Galaxy, etc). The Wii would have to drop into the $129.99 for me to consider picking one up.

Yeah, at that price I could see getting one again too. I had one for 6 months and got rid of it after it didn't see much use. There are a couple games that have come out since that I would like to try but $200 is still way too much.

I would *cough*, but nobody posted in the thread I made about this yesterday. Oh, well.

Except that this thread was created first! You could still always *cough* yours to point over here.

I am an idiot. Carry on.
