Borderlands (catch all)

Go ahead and start worrying Lobby. It may or may not be needed but it will make you feel better :)

Only one thing makes me feel better. It's white and it's powdery and it turns my nose red.

I love snow.

Well I may be passing on this. No way it is comming out on steam if we are this close to release and it isn't listed as comming soon.

I am just not sure this one is worth going to the store for.

Whenever I feel excited about it, I remember Hellgate. I'm waiting for the reviews.

Definitely. Once burned, twice "Hell no I'm not wasting money on a potential half-baked piece of crap without solid reviews from people I trust".

I saw this in action at PAX but I didn't get to play it. It certainly piqued my interest though. I'm going to leave it to the reviews, just like you guys. More good coop with friends can't be beat.

I waited in line to play the demo at PAX because I wanted to play something and they had good looking boothbabes in leather corsets.

They only had the 360 version and the demo was 4-player co-op. Sadly nothing was explained to us. If there was an inventory system or process of customization/upgrade, we didn't know about it. What we got was a map where we just ran along a linear path of cavern walls, shooting beasties and generic raiders and occasionally flashy crystal clusters for some reason we didn't quite grasp. One player had a drum-mag shotgun, one had a sniper rifle (me), and the other two had automatic weapons of some kind, I think. I could throw grenades (I ran out) and also a pterodactyl of some kind. To pick stuff up, you have to be almost right on top of it, look down, and hit X. You try to collect 50 crystals, I'm not sure why.

Then we were done and I got a free t-shirt.

Did it feel like a good shooter? Was it silky smooth like L4D, or herky-jerky like Bioshock? I have decided that all I want in a MP shooter is super smooth controls and stuff to hide behind.

I played it at PAX also. It felt really smooth to me, just about the same as L4D, but as Quintin mentioned, a little confusing. The character I played could turn invisible and then set people/creatures on fire for some reason. Also, I asked if it would be available on Steam and they were non-committal which makes me think it'll be box (and possibly Direct2Drive) only at first and may end up on Steam down the road.

I got to say hi to Randy Pitchford though, that was cool.

You get to throw pterodactyls? Awesome sauce.

New borderlands video. It shows zero gameplay, buts lots of robot-cursing.

"Are you eating a f*@king sandwich?! You're the sound guy! We can hear that!"

Eh, I'm a PC gamer who was trying a console FPS. I haven't played either of the games you mention on a 360.

Me, too. That meme still has some life left in it.

Smoother, closer to L4D. It reminded me a lot of the halo single-player or 2-player single system co-op. The experience of playing it was exactly as Quintin described. Fuzzy, slightly confusing, and over far too quickly with little directive. I barely had a grasp of the controls before I was kindly lead to the exit. I think (hope) that the loot pickup system is everything drops for everyone, but from what I read above, lootwhoring may be a problem.

I'll be getting this for the 360 so I won't have to worry if my old computer can handle it or not.

Also, I got a poster of the box art shown above for standing in line. I WIN!

From everything I've heard, the loot system is a free for all, whoever gets it first, gets it. The trade system is somewhat similar as well, in that you both drop the item being traded on the ground and then run over and grab it from the other person. Seems like both of those systems or going to be full of griefing, this is probably only going to be fun playing with people you know.

I didn't stand in line at PAX to play it, mostly because I've already pretty much decided that I'm going to get it. It looks like a lot of fun even just playing single player, so that stuff doesn't bother me too much. Gonna be picking this up on the 360 when I get it.

I can't decide if this is better or worse than trading in Fable 2.

I've got it pre-ordered on Xbox. Hopefully we can get a group together to play with through the game.

That loot and trading system just sounds so lazy and stupid I can't imagine them releasing the game with it.

Sounds like I will be playing with goodjers only.

Not that I like it, but it sounds like I imagine looting & trading in a real apocalyptic environment.

NO, because in a real apocalyptic situation I'm going to have my big a** acid-rocket shooting shotgun trained on you, until I verify the goods.

I'm buying and playing hell out of it with friends, till Modern Warfare 2 comes out, then rinse and repeat.

Nice, but I don't know why they had all those censored things on kills unless this was made to be aired on TV or something.

I really hope the whole package of the style presented in trailers makes it into the game. The music, the way characters move, shout at you, and so on. If enemies just stand and shoot, yell the same alerts the bazillionth time, or just hide behind boxes I'll be a sad person.

For the same reason the say there's 87 BAJILLION guns. To make it look extreme.

I still want to see the freaking inventory system.

I also noticed that one of the raider-looking dudes was charging forward without even flinching while he took a few bullets to the chest and head.

Meh.

Hot damn that new trailer looked cool...

Lobster, are you gunning for Cynic of the Year or something? I've noticed you're kinda hard to please/impress <,<

I am not gunning for Cynic of the Year... There's no competition.

I want Borderlands to be very good but I'm getting distinct vibes of Hellgate: London from it, which I consider to be my greatest disappointment in a game ever. The lack of enemy response to your attacks was one of my biggest complaints with it. I hope it'll be spectacular and if it is, you can bet I'll be playing it.

However, I do not consider it especially cynical or nitpicky to wonder why we don't know anything at all about the inventory system when the game is based on loot.

Yep. I'm only playing with people on my friends list. Even with friends the loot system is dumb - "Hey buddy? Do you need the ecto-rifle Mark III with acid rounds? OK it's over here by this crate. No No, the OTHER crate."

I can see wasting so much time with a not so well thought out loot system. I can't believe noone in the development team or QA flagged this as a glaring bug. Why couldn't it just be what you see is yours - period.

Umm, pick up the item and drop it at your friend's feet?

New trailer is cool. As long as they don't screw the pooch on the inventory system, I expect this to be a very fun game.

New Borderlands video. If the game has one thing, its personality.

I noticed that almost all of the hits in this video are kill shots, and the few that aren't seem to confirm that there isn't any hit detection on enemies. That kind of worries me. Can anyone who has played the game confirm if it actually feels like you're shooting the person or not?

I tried the game at PAX too, with the same level of nervousness you're expressing. I wanted this game to be good *so bad* but I didn't want to get burned again by yet another crappy rpg-shooter. As everyone has said, the demo at pax was more a demo of the shooter side of things. They didn't demo trading, or inventory, or anything like that. I think the purpose was essentially to calm the nerves of people like me--to reassure us that yes indeed, the gameplay is GREAT. I will also be getting this on the 360--so I don't have to worry about Amoebic's crappy computer

That's good to hear, philosofrenzy.
