Clearing the Pile is a Labor of Love

Pages

In honor of Labor Day in the U.S, what better way is there then to spend the afternoon after grilling and beer then pulling an old unfinished classic off of your pile and giving it the playthrough it deserves? As much as I like waxing poetic and trying to come up with something witty and creative in this section, most of you just want to get to the list.

This month's Pick of the Pile is

[size=30][b]Metal Gear Solid 4

This is the month that Rune Factory Frontier falls! You know, unlike last month or the month before.

I'm going to go and look through the backlog. Batman has me in a comic book game mood. I've still got Hulk:UD, X-Men Legends 1 and 2 and The Punisher still unfinished. Back compat has Hulk and Punisher with a slight edge. Although the Xbox should have the original game saves from Legends 1 and 2.

Fixed that for Me.

God, that game is just a slog. I really feel like I'm almost done, being in the Calm Lands - but I hope I don't have to do crazy grinding/sidequests to finish the game. I'm really ready to put it to bed.

Apart from that, I'm really not sure. I've got another vacation this month eating up two weekends, but tons of PS2 and Adventure games on the pile, plus I'm slowly going through DOW2 coop with my friend.

Lets start slowly with FFX and see how it goes.

Ninja Gaiden Black is back up there. Oh and Bioshock.
I'm confident I can clear NG:B pretty early in the month, but Bioshock is an unknown. I'm having some really weird performance issues with it.

I've got four games started, none of them on their last leg of being finished, but let's hope the first month of class doesn't kill me so I can beat them:

- Yoshi's Island on the GBA
- Killzone: Liberation on the PSP (After getting high reviews, I'm finding this game really boring. It's also only about 4-8 hours long too, which disappoints me.)
- Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3
- Madworld on the Wii

Put the Witcher up there for me.

Well, I've returned to school after finishing an associates degree a few years ago. Now I'm on track for a bachelors, but I've still got to get my gaming in. I kind of got back into Saints Row on the 360 over the past weekend so I'm going to go with that. I figure with a now limited game time I'll be able to get a mission or two done here and there and before the end of the month... BAM, it will fall off the stack in a heaping pile of WIN!

It's gonna be a busy month for me, so I don't imagine I'll have much time for gaming. That said, I'm already a few hours into Bioshock, so I'll make that my goal for the month.

Put me down for GTA IV.

I reserve the right to gradually lose enthusiasm for the game until a particularly wonky mission causes me to put it down half way through and never pick it up again.

Far Cry 2 (again) for me. Although in all honesty, it's probably going to last me well into October.

Put Devil May Cry 4 on there too. First DMC game I've played, and I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying it.

I'm tempted to pick this one back up. The particularly wonky mission that made me put it down was, I believe, the last mission in the game, so I should really finish it off.

Going back and playing Halo, Halo 2, and Crackdown this month to catch up on some classics. I am going through Halo right now on Heroic, but that will probably change as I would probably like to just finish them and enjoy the story moreso than play through the same section for 30 minutes at a time like I have been so far.

Well, after being convinced that I had absolutely no interest in the series, even to the point where I claimed it was masturbatory nonsense with terrible gameplay, I finished the first three in the series over the past two months. I never thought I would ever say this but...

...sign me up for Metal Gear Solid 4.

I think deep down I secretly just want to make myself more attractive to Leigh Alexander.

Firstly, carrying forward Dragon Quest : Chapters of the Chosen from last month.

I'll have to have a rummage around to find something else as well...I shall update later.

Have you already created your Big Boss costume?

I'm a fair way into Spy Fiction for the PS2 so i'll put that on the list this month. I should get through it

I've got Boot Camp. I've got Windows XP installed. And now I've got to party like it's 1998 (because I've also got a GMA950).

I'm goin' to the bear pits tomorrow, and plan on finally finishing Thief: The Dark Project. Ostensibly my favourite series of all time evar, I've never finished a single one. The whole trilogy is ready to go (again), but we'll see how slow the going is. But by the Builder, 11 years on I will finish one of them.

And I've now bought Thief 3 for the fourth time, hooray.

Sign me up for Bioshock and Portal. GH5 should distract me enough this month so I think these should be sufficient.

I was 1 for 2 last month, finishing Bully but not Killer 7. I finished "Target 01" the other day, so I'll keep plugging away at Killer 7 for the GameCube.

I also started Final Fantasy X for the PS2. I'm setting myself up for another "1 for 2" month here, since I can't imagine slogging through the 100+ hours I usually put into a FF title, but if I don't finish it before Alpha Protocol comes out (October 6) I might never do so. I've got a four-day weekend for the G-20 summit (I work in downtown Pittsburgh) so that might be my chance to power through.

Put me down for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl. Hesitant on adding anything else to the list as I've been getting back in DoW II multiplayer and that's taking up my gaming time.

I'm addicted to the Metroid Prime Trilogy. My game of the month is Metroid Prime.

Let's do Burnout Paradise (Multi). I don't really plan on 100%-ing it (finishing every race, if there's a race at every corner), but there has to be a way to determine that it's 'done.'

Credits roll when you get your 'A' License or your 'Burnout' License, forget which one exactly, though that's what I considered finished.

I threw it in multi because of the Wii re-release. Cutting it close because of the trilogy thing, but I'll let it slide.

C'mon, Captain Indecisive, pick one (like I'm one to talk).

I'm going to finish Penny Arcade Adventures Ep. 2 this month!

+ It's short

- It's not really a pile game, as I only just bought it on sale yesterday

+ But it came out, like, last year! Right?

- I'm obviously stretching to add one to the win column here

+ But I can 100% the achievements for this one... and that's what really matters.

Failed horribly last time I put my name on the list, but since I'm already half-way through it, put me down for:
Metal Gear Solid 4

I'm going to stop pouting about the X Axis Idiocy in Far Cry 2 and play it, this month. If I start getting frustrated by the controls, again, I'll huff and puff and put it down forever, but so many people say it's a great game that I have to give it a shot.

Mark me down for Far Cry 2, Pile Master!

But it would require me to use my 360 for something other than DVDs from Netflix and streaming from Netflix.

Bah. Throw it on there for me. Hopefully I can put it in tonight and get that monkey off my back.

Put me down for Defense Grid: The Awakening, on the PC. I burned out on it when I was trying to get gold on each level before I moved on. I should be able to clear that up on my lunch breaks this month.

Also, no Republic Commando, Hemi?

Thanks!

Since I'm so prone to soiling me britches, Silent Hill carries over as previously noted.

I also meant to finish Wallace & Gromit episodes 3 and 4 last month, but that didn't happen either. 4 is too recent, but W&G episode 3: Muzzled! (PC/multi), should be far enough back, so that's my second "official" pile pledge.

Although beeporama's post on Killer7 sorely tempted me, I think I'll skip that and opt for GTA III (PC/multi) instead so that I can finally say that I've played through a GTA game first of all, and secondly, so that it's finally off of my hard drive!

If things go well, there are plenty of games waiting in the wings including Call of Duty 2 for PC, Castlevania on the NES (damned medusa heads!), Killer7, and Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! on the DS.
