Elemental: War of Magic - Catch All

spam.

I loved the Master of Magic game back in the day and Elemental seems like its at least a spiritual successor.

Count me in as another eagerly anticipating Stardock fanboy for this one. Some of the stuff they've put up about the resource model and dynasty thing look like they could be pretty interesting on top of the already assumed general level of MoM awesomeness.

Just waiting for Stardock to send me a Demigod playing time discount coupon to pull the trigger on the pre-order.

Yeah this looks like a fun game. I will probably wait for a sale but this is an eventual buy for me.

Let me just note that I started this thread just as a discussion because there weren't any threads before, and I thought a catch-all would be useful. I have never hid the fact I work for Stardock, and my intention is not spamming nor "advertising". I'm a big gamer as well just like the rest of you too.

User feedback is very important, and being here definitely helps that.

I really don't think you need to defend your presence... but you'll definitely silence your critics if you were to offer up some 'exclusive' info. A token offering to your community here at GWJ.

Agreed.

At the very least, I like the art style they went with. It's not like Gal Civ or Political Machine looked bad or anything, but I found the design very generic overall. The visuals I've seen so far has that nice "pop".

LOL @ Chumpy.

I don't think you can be a plant since you let everyone know who your overlord was. People just like to say it because they think jokes never get old.

I too am very excited about this, and wholly endorse a catch all. If I were remotely inspired enough to do the necessary leg work, I would be aggressively pursuing a beta account. As it is, I'll simply enjoy the delicious anticipation.

Wow. That was an impressive passive pursuit. "What's this? I only mentioned that I'd like to do the legwork (in a thread with the developer on my own forums) and magically this key appeared in my inbox!" ;)

Lazy, I say. All good things require perseverance.

Island, I've done things, things I'm not necessarily proud of. Things I will do to you, aggressively, in exchange for an early key.

I looked forward to a thread on Elemental, don't really care who started it.

I wants me some information and opinions!!!

What`s to opinionate about? We wants it!

I'll opinionate!

Having only looked at what's directly in this thread, the setting looks very generic to me. European-style dragon? Check. European Medieval architecture? Check. Magic? In shard form (who the hell keeps breaking the magic?).

While that has no real bearing on how good the gameplay is, I'll admit it's a turn-off to me. It feels like a wasted opportunity, or worse, a fear of trying something new.

With all due respect, of course, Island Dog. I'm a big fan of Stardock and if the game turns out to be as good as everyone seems to suspect, I'll probably buy it.

I can see the complaint that it's generic, but from my perspective this okay precisely because it's being built as a platform for users to create content: races, settings, campaigns, etc. We'll see a lot more innovation through that choice as a result.

I do absolutely love the art style and I believe it adds a lot of charm to what I am confident will be deep strategic play.

This game sounds pretty cool! Like a mash of Lords of the Realm and Age of Wonders, two of my favorite games. Dang if I wasn't unemployed I'd totally pre-order!

Hey, wait a sec. Are you threatening him if he gives you a key? Or are you just generally aggressive? Because that's a really iffy selling point; you really have to know your audience.

You already have Elysium's blessing, and soon you'll have his $50. That's pretty big currency around here.

I for one thing we need some small shop representation here. I mean, we're their primary consumers! It's good to have someone we can pass questions and concerns to, in a company that's small enough to pay attention.

Hmm, good point. I suppose I that is a bit ambiguous, but I thought outright stating "I'll take a shot in the mouth for a beta key" was probably too forward. But, hey, maybe not. (PM for e-mail.)

To all the naysayers, it's not like Island Dog was hiding anything...

I'm really looking forward to this game, but I'm going to pass on the beta. I want to play a finished game!

I never played Master of Magic or any turn-based fantasy game, really, other than HOMM V. I love turn-based strategy and I love fantasy, though, so this is a no-brainer.

Plus a friend in the alpha says its really cool. Er, that is, he would say it was really cool if he were in the alpha, which he can neither confirm nor deny, and if he could say anything about the alpha, which really he can't.

Damn it.
I shouldn't have started reading about this game.
I blame my mileage check! Empowering me with unbudgeted funds. Now, if only the pre-order came with a few back-to-back weekends so I could actually spend some time with it!

EDIT: HAHA! Saved by my credit-card being in the other room! Laziness wins again!

This game looks like it has high potential. I can't wait till they open up the beta, at which time I'll probably pre-order. I just hope this and the new SIns expansion don't open beta at the same time.

Oh Snap! Did you hear what he just called you guys?

This spam is not very beautiful and attractive, and I am not happy it visit our blog.

Christ, now even the spammers are accusing me of overreacting. I get it, I get it.

Awww, spam's gone. And I felt the spammer had an interesting point too: golf equipment and turn-based fantasy strategy games do go together like cookies and milk.

Seriously, this is a game that I haven't been following on purpose: I want to be surprised by how it plays and looks when it comes out. So, goodbye thread and beautiful and attractive bloggers! See you when the game releases!

I'm a little confused about this game. When I first heard about it I remember it being pitch as "fantasy civ" and now I'm hearing Might And Magic. Is it a little bit of both?

It's most like Master of Magic, which means it's a 4x game with tactical battles somewhat similar to HOMM.

Thats what I need, a 4x game! I was sorta of scared with the might and magic comparison i heard because I had a recent trouble with that genre (Kings Bounty, I hate it).

Oh, this is very much being developed as a 4x game. The battling is but a small part of the overall gameplay!

New blog post from Brad Wardell at PAX: http://frogboy.impulsedriven.net/art...

Three new screenshots and some info. He says he's giving 30 minute demos on the game so hopefully some major outlets will have full length previews soon.

I have a video of a brief overview of the game. Will post it in about 2 days. I will be in the beta and depending on the NDA will let others play it =). Game looked really neat. Brad was saying the game could take up to a couple months to finish. That is playing the game, not development time.
