SOCOM: Confrontation Catch-All [1.50 = Finally OUT!]

All I have to say: it's about damn time.

Awwww, Slant Six is giving me a birthday present.

A great many promises have been made. Believe it when I see it.

Agreed but this patch has been in the works from quite some time and fans are beyond rapid so /6 wouldn't drop a date unless they were 1000% ready.

We really need to get a clan formalized and pick a night to play regularily. I'm ready to get back in full force...

Patch is out.

Comments from the forums are saying things like, "the 10-month Beta is over".

Downloaded it before I left to work, waiting to get home and try it out.

Mine is downloaded and ready to go. I'll post an update later. *crosses fingers, toes, and eyes*

I haven't updated yet, but I'm about to do it.

What's the verdict? Might we be able to get some GWJ people on and play now?

I played 12 games or so. Most were laggy, accuracy for some weapons seems to be off, grenade mechanics are a little weird, players seems to run slower (even with light armor), and these changed the winning criteria a bit (kills, not bomb plants, determines winner of a drawn game), Other than that, it's good.

So I played 6 games worth last night.
I have one real complaint: the matchmaking simply doesn't work. I always left the quickmatch setting on 8v8 Ranked. I lost count of the number of lobbies I had to leave because it dropped me into Unranked 16v16 Infinite Respawn games. That's just stupid.

I had issues to. Mine is set for 8v8 Ranked Medley and often I'd land in a room that met the criteria but only had 2-3 people in it. The system should start with rooms that are nearly full and work down from there.

I'm curious to hear Legion's thoughts on Socom post-patch.

I swear, there's some special lag that only you get.

I've had zero lag issues so far. Engine seems to run better. Loading times are MUCH better, reducing one of the pains of the game (just firing up the game and getting into a match).

So far my 8v8 Ranked matchmaking has put me into 8v8 matches.

I'm fairly pleased so far. What I'm not pleased with is that my "SOCOM aim" has seriously atrophied. Must fix.

I play on a 28K dial-up connection. Could that be it? Seriously though, I played at peak hours on the patch launch day so it could have been the servers getting overloaded or the patch still working itself out. The other issues are valid though.

Any thoughts on an "official" Socom night?

I didn't notice any lag in particular.

I still struggle with the controls though. When I play I find myself wishing that the game would control with half the smoothness or precision of CoD4. The game somehow manages to be fun anyway, but everytime I try to track a target moving sideways across my POV I curse slant six just a little bit. Something still feels janky there.

As far as an official night, I can do any night really if we play earlier or I can play late on wednesday and thursdays. I'm EST though, and I know Legion's on the opposite end of the country. It would be great if we could get a group together though.

Jumped on Confrontation with some friends the other night for old times sake. I must admit, it was fun dusting off this game and playing a few rounds of it.

Here's another one. Urban Wasteland Breach. One of my favorite map/mode combination to play. Gotta love the team kill at the very end.
