Idle F***in' Thumbs Podcast

I just started listening to this show yesterday and I'm already hooked.

It's a nice mix of intellect, goofiness, and awesome songs.

The cussing doesn't bother me. I cuss like a sailor in my everyday life so I can relate to them. Definately glad I gave it a try.

Really enjoyed the Civ 4 discussion from a few episodes back. Perfect timing as I just went back to Civ 4 and playing Beyond the Sword for the first time.

Bah, damn you all, I'm getting closer to downloading and listening to this, the only thing that keeps me going is the thought of vexing and annoying Mogg.

So that's how you post so much. And here I've been reading the threads like a chump.

I wouldn't choose Lobs as a role model. That is a path that leads to madness.

It is true that I gained this ability when I saw behind time, beyond the stars. What I saw there drove me insane, and if I were to describe it to you and do it but a tenth of justice, you would go insane as well.

I might just be a heathen, but I thought the latest podBLAST (seriously, this is how it should be presented) that was deemed incredibly shameful wasn't all that bad. Some interesting conversational bits in there amongst talk of interspecies erotica. Sounds like a good time to me!

I laughed through sizable chunks of it. Hilarious.

I scared the old woman next to me on the train this morning with how hard I was laughing at this.

Did she ask you for gum?

Most memorable moment from the casts so far: "You bought that on a disc?"

So I listen to Idle Thumbs yesterday and I have congratulate Chris on holding back on the sailors language! ;D There was one time he caught himself and change his wording which made me laugh hysterically.

The last two shows of Idle Thumbs have been very funny. I'm not sure if they are getting better or if they've bent my mind to their way of thinking.

The Idle Thumbs episode I tried didn't have that, but it had a whole bunch of other stuff that effectively turned me off from it. Not exactly the best first impression. That being said, Chris Remo seems pretty sharp (from what I've heard on the GWJCC and seen on Twitter), so I may give it another spin down the line.

After checking out (and really enjoying, I might add) the last 5-6 episodes of Idle Thumbs since I posted that, I am now completely baffled by Lobster's original post. Even when they dip into little bits of profanity, they don't go off on a complete sentence enhancer binge...is there is a specific episode that brought this on?

I'm on the wagon too. I've really been enjoying the last few episodes, and I totally lolled at the dramatic reading of the "SuckBox 360" email.

Our new left 4 dead put down is you suck so much. Go play your Suckbox 360 or insert crapbox for variation.

That was so full of win.

I think it's actually the latter. The clever commentary, surreal humour and inside jokes really makes this the gaming podcast equivalent of Futurama or Arrested Development, where the more episodes you listen to the funnier the whole thing gets.

Between the SuckBOX and the Nintendo horse bag (with optional head that you can leave in your kid's bed Godfather style) I'm really hooked.

If people just started listening to Idle thumbs I suggest you go back and listen to old episodes. There is some comedy gold in there. My favorite (without spoiling) is when they discuss the difference between people's expectations of playing Zelda on the Wii vs. the reality of playing zelda on the Wii. It's in episode 8 about 30 mins in.

That horse bag part was so funny I had to bite on a pen at work to keep from breaking out laughing. Even then I was making noises that I tried to disguise as coughing.

I'm also glad he's back to inserting "The WizaaaaaAAAaaaaaard" back into the show.

I think one of the items in the Dragon Age Collectors Edition is a horse bag, but you don't use it for riding. In Dragon Age, the horse bag rides you.

My favorite one they ever did was Joe Pesci as a Left 4 Dead character. The Pesci-voice "Pills here!" made me laugh.

I just got around to this most recent episode.

The entire horse bag thing, and pretty much the entire episode really, is hilarious.

I happened to be standing near a bunch of TSA employees when the horse bag thing started, and the five minutes of laughing to myself got me some stares.

SuckBox?! CRAPBox!?

Yeah I was in my car listening to it but Im sure I was getting stares from people driving by me, it was really funny.

I am enjoying Idle Thumbs more and more.

Horse bag just made my morning at work a whole lot better.

After reading this thread, I'm going to check this one out. GWJ CC is good, but I need (on average) 4-5 good podcast hours to get through the week, and GWJ + Giant Bombcast is leaving me a little short.

The previous pages of this thread dealt a little with the 1UP podcast, and on that note, I'll say that I jumped ship on that one not because of Garnett or Sharkey (although, yeah, seriously, that was a mess), but because of Ellis (and, to a lesser extent, Davison). Garnett has never been the primary source of insight or well-quantified reasoning on that show, but he has always functioned well as a moderator of other people (Shane, for example) who DO have those interesting insights.

Tangentially: I stopped by the 1UP forums a couple of times, and I honestly think the show's primary problem is that the poor guys have to cater to a legion of negative, immature kids. I saw so many personal, cutting attacks in 10 minutes on that forum that it bummed me out for the next hour or so. I even considered writing Garnett a note that just said "dude, I feel for you."

I listened to that one yesterday afternoon while I was mowing my lawn. I was laughing out loud at the horse bag when a neighbor drove by on his tractor. The dude looked at me like I was dangerously unhinged.

I thought I was going to have either an aneurysm and/or a wreck as I listened to this on the way to work, I was laughing so hard. Horsebag + Castroids.

This might jump over Three Moves Ahead into my #3 podcast spot.
