Brutal Legend Catch All

Best part of that video is the metal music that starts when Eddie picks up the axe.

... day one.
And it can't come soon enough.

DAY ONE.

Unfortunately not day one for me since I'm a bad person.

My question is, 'Why all the hate for consoles?' If you hate consoles, that means you hate Katamari Damacy, Okami, ICO, and you are in fact a bad person. A bad person who should send all their hate mail to Eurogamer and not to me.

Argh! To watch or not to watch? I want to go into this game fresh, but I also want to listen to Tim Schafer commentary! I haven't been this torn since that time Tim Schafer narrated a gameplay video of Brutal Legend and I wasn't sure whether I wanted to watch it or not!

My favorite moment was when he was praying on the alter/vehicle. Hilarious prayers, but even more awesome was the transition from moving to stopping and back. It felt so natural as Eddie shifted between prayers and mumbles.

My cup runneth over. Despite the fact that I don't like Metal very much, I'll still get this on the first day. I wonder if they're doing any special editions or anything like that. There would be some interesting little figures or extra stuff you could ship with a game like this.

It occurs to me that the appeal of the game is probably best served by these kinds of extended previews rather than static screenshots or magazine articles. (I recall that Levine did similar things for Bioshock). That way you get the humour, the design, the quirkiness, the gameplay and all that.

However, this doesn't address my only worry about the game, which is that the new stuff runs out and it becomes a bit samey.

I felt the same way so I only watched the first 5 minutes. I can wait for the rest.

Go into it fresh. There are few games I media blackout on, but I know Brutal Legend is going to be amazing, so there's no reason for me to watch this. The commentary will always be there after you play

"What have you done?!"

"Created beauty by simply rocking, that's all."

Whole game, two sentences.

Want.

I might have to turn in my gamer card, but the more I see of the game, the less interested I have become. The gameplay seems stilted and silly. And I have yet to see any laugh out loud humor.

The game has everything that should make it a great game. But oddly, I'm just not feeling it. Maybe the demo will draw me in.

Me too. I'm going to play it anyway and have a good time, but I'm growing weary of this whole ohitsjackblack hype.

It's hard to preview, even in a 17-minute gameplay video, Tim Schafer's humor. Maybe I'm stupid or something, but the funniest moments in his games seem to be when you're able to take a break from the game, sit back, and enjoy as someone or something just goes on some ridiculous tangent. The rest of the time, the jokes seem to come in small but quick doses, which don't work on their own without those big humor punctuations.

As for the possible feeling of sameyness, I don't think that'll be a problem. I'm not going to go digging around for it, but I read a preview article at 1up forever ago which made the game sound like it transitions, piece by piece, from action game to Pikminesque RTS. It sounds like you're getting new weapons, allies and abilities for much of the game.

Plus, Psychonauts didn't feel very samey after hitting the underwater stage, so I think Double Fine will deliver on the variety.

Its pretty cool that they picked not 2, not 3, but *4* songs from the same Judas Priest album, Painkiller. I like this game.

The Track list

Looks pretty good to me. Nice mix of material from mainstream to harder stuff. There's something awesome and amusing about having Quiet Riot, Emperor, Dethklok, and Tenacious D all in there together.

Since Dragon Age: Origins moved out of October and into November I decided to pre-order Brutal Legends. And the reason why is more because I respect Tim Schaffer as a creator than really am enthused about the game itself. That has to say something.

No Maiden?! Lame.

Also, the inclusion of Anvil, makes me happy and laugh. Because, its Anvil.

Atomicvideohead wrote:

Yeah, no Maiden? But Ratt and Saxon and Diary of a Madman and Diamond Head (almost) make up for it.

King Diamond? Really?!

Wow.

See, this is why. Awesome.

Solving the cube before she finished reading, even with her skipping songs = impressive.

EA Denmark mispelling one of the most well known bands in metal history (Megadeath Megadeth) = unimpressive.

F*ckin' rad.

He was totally playing that out for time -- he had it down to 1 swapped cube several times, and was just dinking around pretending to be baffled while she got closer to the end of the list.

God I love that man...

noooo...

unless that implies being chumby means you make awesome games and are generally awesome... then ok.

I'm really glad they subtitled that. Otherwise I'd have no idea who "Murderhead" is.

EDIT: But I'm really glad she got to read the list and not Tim. She has a nice voice.

Emily Ridgway was also the audio director for Bioshock. She is a badass.
