So, why'd you pick your little GWJ forum picture?

Pages

I've been lurking around the GWJ forums for almost two years now and lately I've been catching up on the "Post a picture, entertain me" thread. Why this led me to be curious about everyone's forum pic I have no idea but there ya go.

So, I'm curious, why pick the pic you picked? For me it's easy - I've been gaming for ages but the game that turned me on to on-line multiplayer gaming was Quake II. Ah, the joys of CTF and the double barreled shotty...good times, good times. So now it's your turn, why did you pick the pic you did and do you ever change it?

Cheers.

Because it's actually me, though I regrew the beard. I'll have to update it.

I put a picture of myself up there because I figured it would inspire people to set aside their differences, help others, and make the world a better place.

Or not.

Because seeing a Paper Mario lit on fire with his own fireball is funny? Plus Tye-dye rocks!.

Because I have a large collection of funny pictures -- I used to run a weekly event in Second Life that had people captioning unusual or funny shots from, well, all over. Two things took the steam out of the idea -- the advent of lolcats, and the advent of photoshoppery. I didn't like using staged or fake pictures, and lolcats got people into the idea of embedding the text into the picture, which ruined it for my uses. Plus, lolcats really overexposed the whole idea, took a lot of the fun out of it.

But I still have a substantial archive of funny stuff, so when I picked an avatar, I went shopping, and this particular picture appealed to me at the time.

No other reason -- out of 1200ish pics, this was the one that jumped out at me. I'd probably pick something different were I do to do it again. For instance, from a quick skim:

I just pick a small silly image. Eventually I either grow tired of it or find another silly image to replace it. No idea what the first one was or how many I've gone through so far.

Even though I don't watch American Dad anymore, I just always found the scene with the rocket boot really hilarious which is why I went with it.

Also? Chicken hat.

I like Blade Runner

The Pipboy animated figures are some of my favorite game art. Who could resist the ever-jaunty and cheerful Pip Boy?

I picked my user icon because duct tape is the cure for anything. Broke your leg? Duct Tape. Leaky pipe? Duct tape. LOUD ANNOYING kid? Duct tape. Poor grammar? tape Duct Marital problems? Duct tape. Poor user interface? Duct tape. Well anyways I think you get the picture...

Fun fact: My duct tape icon on Flickr holds the record for the longest running user icon.

It's the wikipedia icon for the science portal.

It is one of the Nuvola icons, which all make great avatars. So there.

I used a goblin from Warhammer for years, but a couple years ago got into a discussion about the perils of going blind while masturbating and switched it over to the one i use now.

Because I *REALLY* like whiskey.

A lot.

Seriously.

I wanted to let everyone know that I was a tough guy. I needed to instill the knowledge deep into everyone's psyche, that I mean serious internet business and can pwn anyone. That's the only way I can sleep at night. I think I found the perfect pic to convey that. Don't you?

It's a picture I took of our truck while I was messing around with one of my dad's cameras and I really like how it turned out. I've used it as my avatar everywhere ever since.

No particular reason, I tend to update it whenever I feel like a change.

Just happened to be playing Persona 4 last time I updated it

Ditto!

My original icon was Tim the Sorcerer from The Holy Grail, since he was amusing and old, just like my hero, Rabbit. I decided to change it to the Apothecary marine from DoW II because: I'm in medicine, I'm in the military, and I love sci-fi, so it seemed like a better fit. Unfortunately I made the change right as I was eligible to get tagged, so all of the avatar-based suggestions were wrong and highly confusing, as some folks had my new avatar while others still had the old one cached.

But I like my new one, so there.

I think people think that i'm crotchety and angry... so my avatar reflects this. I picked it up from a comic in EDGE magazine (Crash Lander) - the character's name is Dale and he was ranting about there being no good games and about not feeling like any games really connect with him anymore so he was pissed.... "It's all crap!" the caption goes. I use the character for the avatar but i alter it to the time of the year and holidays etc.

I played a lot of mario kart double dash during my formative college years. Like A LOT. So much so that I could pretty much run the tracks blindfolded. Unfortunately talking sh*t while in first place tends to lead to some nasty suprises in the form of a winged blue shell. Karma indeed.

It's the mascot of the high school where we live.

I like the Dude-A-Day project (At least until he stopped updating!) http://www.atomictoy.org/365dudes/.

I have been turning them into little icons for a while now. I used to have the TF2 Pyro as my Avatar because TF2 is what got me to stop lurking and actually post on the forums.

I am terrified I will get my Tag when I have a stupid random icon and since I don't make much of an impression, everybody will suggest tags that only reference my current random icon. This is the sort of thing that keeps me up at night.

BTW - That is Boromir blowing his horn as my current Avatar.

Because Deionara is what makes Planescape: Torment the best written game in history. I'm a sucker for the melancholic atmosphere surrounding every encounter with her, especially with the accompanying bittersweet soundtrack.

Because it never stops being funny.

I like to play humans with warhammers in MMOs so thats what I picked.

I like wolves.

It just seems fitting.

What's a forum picture?
