May 30th to June 5th

Section:

What an eventful week we had! With any luck things will continue to remain interesting to all of our new visitors and even the old ones who think they've seen everything GWJ has to offer. What does that mean? Nothing really, I just like saying stuff. This week we have two games worth noting. One is called Boiling Point, an FPS PC game that by all accounts shoots high but was pushed out the door too quickly by Atari. The other, our game of week, is Advent Rising for the Xbox. Not only is it Halo-ish with a splash of Max Payne, you can win one million dollars playing it. It must be awesome!

Oh, Certis! You're such a tease!

This is clearly Certis' way of warning us of an impending IPO offering for GWJ, or a huge buyout, while at the same time not wanting to tip his hat to those of us 'named' executives who desire stock options and payment...so that he doesn't have to share his profits...

So sad what capitalism does...even to Canadians...sigh

Am I the only one leery of a game that is so desperate to garner attention that they're giving away a million smackers?

That practically says "We have no confidence in this game!"

There was another game on nintendo that pulled this same gimmick. Find some treasure in the game and win loads of money. Anyone remember the name of that one?

No. In the moive "The Wizard" they played Mario 3 for a chance of winning cash. IS that what you're thinking about?

There was the movie called Million Dollar Mystery. It did so poorly in theaters that it almost became the first movie to have a negative gross when someone actually won the million dollar contest that went along with the movie.

I remember seeing that movie and thinking how awesome it was that we got a sneak peak of Super Mario Bros 3. I remember the part near the end where they have the final competition and these kids have to play SMB3, which no one had seen or played before yet Fred Savage is screaming at his friend to "Use the warp whistle! Use the warp whistle!"

I was like, "How the *@$^*& would he know what a warp whistle is?"

I want to kow why a great film like that isn't out on DVD yet!

I want advent rising for PC but thats not until the end of june! Why majesco? why!

No, it wasn't "The Wizard". And thanks for scarring my day with memories of that movie. : (

I think it may have been called Treasure Hunt, even. Crappy NES 8 bit game with ads in most gaming magazines offering a million dollars for... something in the game. Don't remember what.

So the rest of us can win the money first!

I've been psyched about AR since I heard they tapped Card to help with the script. I just hope this prize money thing is a "we're a new title" gimmick and not a "we'd rather give a million bucks away than spend it on QA" gimmick.

Best of Mr Peabody & Sherman Vol 1

Oh yeah, it's about time these bad boys stepped out from under the shadow of moose and squirrel. Now, if we could get some Fractured Fairy Tale action, I'd be set.

Because the PC market is chump change to the distributors anymore?

I think I remember this, Mex. Didn't somebody find a way to hack the cartridge and win the contest way ahead of schedule? I recall something like that.

Sidenote: The Essential Steve McQueen Collection contains neither The Sand Pebbles nor The Great Escape, and therefore cannot be justifiably called 'Essential.'

Translation: All the Yanks will be included on the GWJ Canadian Health Plan.

Right?

Right?

You got it.

Mind you, all our health plan really amounts to is you getting smacked around by Pyro and called a sissy. If additional consults are required we might page Dr.Reaper and have him tell you to "quit crying or I'll give you something to cry about" before he smacks you around some more.

So, it's like playing SWAT4 with them?
