Batman: Arkham Asylum Catch-All

Quite literally bringing tears to my eyes. I don't normally go for the plastic crap (TM), but this and a Pip-Boy bobble-head are, you know, enough for me.

Hey, if you are going to call if Arkham Asylum, I insist that you model it after the Alan Moore book. Damn it, I demand it.

No way! You have to model it after the version in Batman Begins.

PSH! NOO! I want to see them try the Alan Moore one. I want to see them bleed from their orifices trying to wrap their heads around any of the Moore ouevre. That book would be impossible to adapt. Even Johnny Depp ended up making a bad movie when made to tackle From Hell.

Not to be a pedant, but Alan Moore wrote The Killing Joke, an equally awesome Joker story that actually has little to do with Arkham.

It was Grant Morrison's Arkham Asylum that, I believe, served as the main kernel of inspiration for the game.

Remember: Grant Morrison is the bald Scotsman who believes in chaos magic and writes crazy, cracked-out comics; Alan Moore is the hairy (so, so hairy) Northamptoner who worships a fake ancient Egyptian snake god and writes crazy, cracked-out comics.

(It's sad, but I actually resisted commenting on VDO's post for, like, two days now.)

Oh, and about the game: me=psyched. Even if it'll end up being a (mostlly) super-hero *sigh* brawler.

I'll probably get one for my son - we like the CE's.

(Hangs head in shame).

I will be quiet now. Damn, they are never gonna let me back into the comic store.

Sure they will -- you just may have to buy some Paul Pope for penance. (A "harsh" punishment, I know... Could be worse -- I could've said BattleChasers back-issues.)

Jonathan "Scarecrow" Crane channels his inner Big Daddy in a level exclusive to Gamestop pre-order customers.

I hate that all the pre-order bonuses are GameStop only. Hopefully they'll show up as DLC in the future.

Everything I see about this game makes me more excited about it. Can't wait to play it.

Pointy.

Scarecrow looks much, much cooler in-game.

I really want the 12" batarang. I really want it. There is only 1 problem, in 2 parts; the problem is a toddler, hence part 1 being danger, and part 2 is that she stole all my cash.

I gather that the batarang comes with a videogame of some sort as well. I haven't given that as much thought.

Incidentally, thanks for saving me some typing, RS! I was going to get my photos of Moore and Morrison out again.

Solution: use the Batarang on the thieving toddler...?

That's...that's not what you meant at all, is it?

Holy crapola, Batman, that picture did me in...CE ordered, with overnight shipping.

If Gamespot f*cks me on this like they did on the Bioshock pre-order (I never did get that statue), it's Postal time...

Demo Friday, so if you're still on the fence, this could push you over one way or the other.

I excited to try the demo.

Sweet. I'm really interested to try this one out.

Cool. My fingers are crossed on this one.

I got money on the collector, so let's hope it's not a dud.

I'm confident though!

Unless the demo is unique content, I'm happy to wait for the report of others (want to make max use of my CE dollars!)

As great as this looks, and as big of a Batman fan as I am, I've been burned too many times before on Batman games to preorder or even purchase at launch. I hate to say that I'm going to rent and wait for impressions but I do hope the demo changes that for me.

I'm very glad there's a demo for this one, looking forward to giving it a shot.

It's a much different game than what my impression was from a article in Game Informer a year ago. I pictured it as aq sort of Deus Ex take on Batman. But it's pretty clear now that it is a classic beat'em up, but embellished with a ton of cool gameplay mechanics. So while it is really different, it still looks like a game that could be a lot of fun.

It also looks like the kind of game that if they do not polish the living daylights out out of it, then it could really be kind of a janky mess. They better be careful about the demo they release. If it is an earlier build, they could lose a ton of sales from this. But if it has been nailed, it could turn the game in to a first day purchase for a lot of people.

I'm certainly excited to give this game a chance.

Yeah, I hope they realize there's a whole lot of gamers out there who want a good Batman game but are skeptical because of past offerings. The demo for this game will play a larger part in sales than many others, imo. Not only will people decide if it's good or not based on the demo, they'll tell their friends who don't pay attention to demo releases not to buy it if the demo stinks. I have friends who buy two or three games a year and they're definitely looking at Arkham Asylum and opinions from people like me.

I've never played any of the previous efforts so my anticipation knows no bounds. This game has Batman and therefore it will be awesome.

If only that were true of past Batman games.

All I know is, as a purchaser of the CE (switched from Gamestop to Amazon, since Amazon doesn't have a history of screwing me and was cheaper), if I don't like this game the publisher better get worried, 'cause I'm gonna be armed with a Batarang!
