Bookworm Adventures 2 Catch-All

This somehow passed under my radar, but Bookworm Adventures 2 is out on July 30th. Didn't even know there is a sequel in the works. Seems there are now friends that go with you, new bosses and new minigames, plus screenshots show some different playstyles. I spent more than a year with the first game, more than with Peggle. I know it's casual and all, but: PopCap! Bookworm! Anyone else looking forward?

YES! Do they have a function yet where you can add words from dictionary.com? Because that would be swell. This little gem has always been one of my favorites.

Pop Cap is almost at insta-buy status for me. I'd like Steam to do a package where you get the first one free with a pre-order, though.

Day one purchase for me! I played the hell out of the first one, and can't wait to see what they do with this one!

I'd perfer they gave you a different Popcap game for pre-ordering myself (a bit like they did with Plants Vs Zombies). Chances are anyone interested enough in this to want to pre-order it already has the first game.

True, except I want the Steam version.

Why do I only notice typos when someone replies to one of my posts...

Back on topic, I never really played the first Bookworm Adventures beyond the demo so I'd still pre-order if they offered this as a bonus. I just think the games are going to end up being fairly similar and you'd get more people pre-ordering if they offered a game that seemed completely different.

I'm still tempted by the Pop-Cap complete collection on Steam while it's on sale. It's just a tiny bit too much to justify paying when I already own 3 of the games in the pack.

Any news on whether or not they're including in-game definitions? That was what I wished for most in the first one; a 'hover over to get the definition of this word' option. Many times I'd accidentally spell a word that I'd never heard before, and wished for the option to get the definition in-game.

Yeah, Bookworm Deluxe did that, and I was really sad to see that feature disappear in Adventures.

The Pop Cap site has a free game of your choice (from five options, including Bookworm) when you pre-order Bookworm Adventures 2.

I really enjoyed the first Bookworm Adventures. If this shows up on Steam for $10 (like PvZ did), consider it sold!

EDIT: This thread inspired me to go play the free online version of BA. Spending 3 turns to set up an 11-letter word is SO worth it when that last letter you need shows up.

Crushing!

For the first game, they took a simple concept and executed it just about perfectly. Beyond greater item variety, I'm not sure what improvements they could make for the sequel. Even if they don't, more of the same is welcome.

Looks like the game is out now!

Also: first review is out on Eurogamer (8/10).

I played through the trial and the first impressions would be: better and more varied animations, more different opponents, otherwise nothing hugely different from the original (so far). There should be more artifacts and new minigames, but it is basically the same old Bookworm, only more polished this time. It also feels more funny than the first one.

You also have the option to sign up for a PopCap newsletter when downloading the game, if you do so, you receive a coupon code for 10% off any PopCap game.

It's also now on Steam, although at more than double the price (£14.99 - UK) that Plants Vs Zombies sold for on release, or in fact any other PopCap game sells for now. It's a shame as at £6.99 this would have probably been an instant impulse purchase for me.

Wow. I think that's the first time I've ever seen someone in the UK praise America as a culture for our spelling.

God, I love this game. I had forgotten how much.

I caved and bought the Steam version last night.

So far I'm enjoying it lots. I agree that it certainly has a 'more of the same' vibe going, but everything feels a lot more tightened up.

The companion feature is an interesting twist and provides alternate dialogue trees based on who's with you. The music, while maintaining the same style as the first game, feels way fuller...like a full orchestra or something. It's quite fantastic.

It's funny how quickly PopCap is rising in my esteem this gen. It's almost to the point where I'm struggling to think of another developer with such a spotless track record in recent memory.

It's official: I'm PopCap's Female Doggo.
