Futurama - New Season Coming in 2010

Do I?

What's really funny about Two And A Half Men is that it is the same show that the writer started on, My Two Dads.

You know what? WAY worse shows are still running, like 2 and a Half Men.

Good news!

Yeah I typed it wrong I meant Two and a Half Men.

What's strange is that the producer/writer/something of that show (Chuck Lorre?) is also involved with The Big Bang Theory, one of my favorite shows

I just hope it doesn't succumb to the same fate as Family Guy. I know there are those who will disagree with me, but in my opinion pre-cancellation Family Guy is about 1,742 times funnier than post-cancellation Family Guy.

Go watch American Dad. I feel the exact same way and it seems during the cancellation all the writers I like went over to American Dad. It's more situational/character based comedy rather than "hey remember that one thing" gags.

Woob Woob Woob Woob Woob!

In general I would agree with you, but this is the same network and the same show where the following happened:

Matt Groening wrote:

The show premiered on Sunday, March 28, 1999, at 8:30 pm, immediately after The Simpsons. But within a year, it was moved to 7 pm, where it was usually preempted by football games. "After they moved us to 7, they launched a promotional campaign with the tagline 'The Fun Begins at 8!'" Groening says. "I never got that. I think 'The Fun Begins at 7!' just rolls off the tongue."

So yeah, it's their decision, but it did seem like they were doing everything in their power to bury the thing. As someone who was interested in the show at the time, I was amazed at how often 10 minutes to the entire show got cut for the end of the Lions/Bears game that no one outside of the Great Lakes cared about. The market won, and it's coming back, but will it be the same? It remains to be seen.

Toward the end there, it was getting constantly preempted by baseball games that had gone into extra innings. The ratings were definitely NOT for the show's lack of genius, but rather for Fox's lack of foresight.

And Fox isn't doing anything here but getting paid so that Comedy Central can run a show that they forsook, but retained the rights to. Scoundrels, pure and simple.

I think by three and half he had in mind the number of viewers. Easy to confuse those numbers.

Oh Noes! They aren't bringing back the original voice talent.

Man, Fox doesn't understand the appeal of this series at all, do they? The phrase "Penny wise, pound foolish" occurs to me here.

If they couldn't meet their salary demands (which, knowing the people involved and their love for the series, couldn't be THAT crazy), they shouldn't continue the series, either from an artistic or financial viewpoint.

f*ck you Fox.

WHAT!?!?

In the interests of my sanities, I will ignore this information for now.

This is right up there with casting Coy and Vance Duke.

Boo! Boo! BOOOO!!

There's some musing on MeFi that this is of such breathtaking stupidity that it might be a publicity stunt.

If we were even near April 1st, I'd believe it.

I'm starting my own Futurama. With Blackjack! And hookers!

Ha! I'd watch that.
Actually, I'll watch anything of that sort as long as they bring back the original voice actors.
WHY FOX WHY

There will be much bloodshed to right this injustice.

Yeah, boy, Fox sure sucks! They financed a show for four seasons, and then cancelled it when ratings didn't justify cost. They then judged sales of DVDs, put out new films, and then took that data to show there was a demand for NEW shows. They then ordered the new shows.

Total assholes.

Seriously... we're all adults here, and this is a business. Why knock them for bringing a show back?

Still don't agree with it, but quoted because it fits.

I'll give them a shot, but I think Fox killed this one before it got off the ground. How much more could the be asking for? More than the DVD/Comedy Central run they just did?

...Technically Comedy Central is the money here, so couldn't they step up?

This is a good question. Maybe Coemdy Central realised the swindle Fox was pulling off and asked for help, and Fox took the opportunity to cut their costs.

On second thought, forget Futurama.

I think the chances are pretty good that if the entire main cast wouldn't sign, they were being seriously lowballed. There's no way I'd watch this unless they're on board.

Those Fox executives will be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.

Someone needs to tell them that the voice *makes* the character for animation. Change that and you change the character, thus defeating the entire f*cking purpose of bringing the show back from the grave.

Seriously, if it were just one of the main characters voices being replaced, i'd still give it a chance, but all 3!? They obviously don't understand that Fry, Leela and Bender were the heart of that show.

Just screw the whole thing.

The first half of this thread put me in a really good mood. The second half.... not so much.

At least it's inspired me to watch the first four seasons again.

Damn, that's disappointing.

Not that I know the first thing about how these things work, but according to this article...
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3ibdf529f18374f6c965f140dbc42e7419
The reason given is that they couldn't afford (or at least didn't want to pay) the inflated salary demands of the actors. Putting on my cynic hat a moment, is it possible that the voice actors got a little big for their boots and though they could get away with making unreasonable salary demands, given that they thought themselves irreplaceable in the series?
