Good, time-consuming coop games for PC

A friend of mine is coming to town for a few days, and we need new coop games. Suggestions inc!

Tips:
Strategy games can work, us vs comps or us vs online. I welcome suggestions of strategy games that have good multiplayer and can do teams/coop.
Any coop RPG works well for us, or if anyone has a time machine and can grab Diablo III.
FPS work but are usually limited to online multiplayer. L4D can have multiplayer coop without playing online vs matches, and so is good.

Appreciate the help!

Most RTS will allow LAN comp stomps. I understand Red Alert 3 has a coop campaign mode, as does Dawn of War 2 to a degree.
RPG: Can play Neverwinter Nights 2 in multiplayer mode; your mileage may vary.
Diablo-like: Titan Quest, Sacred 2
FPS: Rainbow Six Vegas, Vegas 2, Synergy mod for Half Life 2, Call of Duty: World at War

My friends and I always have fun playing Age of Empires III together in a comp stomp. Sins of a Solar Empire is great fun as well although it is much more of a slow burn.

I'm playing Sacred 2 on the PS3, not PC, but I'm having a lot of fun with it both solo and coop with a buddy. The game world is huge so you can easily sink a ton of time into it.

When we can't think of anything else to play we always fall back on the Winning Eleven series (soccer). We always have fun playing through a season or tournament with two or three of us. Again, we typically play on the 360 but my buddy has the PC version as well and it works great although I'm assuming you'd need gamepads/360 controllers.

Serious Sam: The First Encounter
Serious Sam: The Second Encounter

....and if you're not totally burnt out on it yet, Serious Sam 2 (probably the weakest of the series, however).

I'm told Trine has local multiplayer. If the amount of fun I'm having with the singleplayer is any indication, it's probably really good.

My regular recommendation for this type of thread: Hidden & Dangerous Deluxe. It's available for free now and happens to be quite old, which means it'll run fine on low end machines, too. The default controls are abysmal and need to be tweaked before you start playing for the first time - trust me -, but even then there's still stuff to be annoyed with. The game itself is also rather difficult; even if you're very careful, expect to see or fire up the mission restart button a lot. Nevertheless, we always found it entertaining, and the resource and character stats aspect adds some depth to it. Up to four players can participate.

If you don't need the latest graphics and are willing to handle the learning curve then H&D is always a nice addition to your coop parties.

Trine's Local Multiplayer is actually tons of fun. Highly recommended.

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 is quite good as a coop game IMO. The campaign can be played cooperatively, and there are a lot of good custom coop levels.

I haven't had the opportunity to play coop on DOW2, but there is a mod that allows you to play a survival mode which can be done cooperatively.

I'm looking forward to playing ARMA 2 in coop this weekend, hopefully.

SWAT 4 is awesome.

Fairly certain that's not on the PC, but A for effort.

I would think a DOW2 local co-op campaign would take up most of (or more than) a weekend and be excellent fun to boot. You can jump in and out of it too, so one of you can continue on your own if you feel like it.

Civ 4. Though it can be a pain in the ass if one of you ends up in an untenable position an hour or so into the game.

I was going to make the same suggestion.

Is Trine even out yet? The website has nothing but previews and "game to look forward to" quotes.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Trine has been available on Steam for, I believe, 12 days.

The only issue that I see with the DOW2 co-op is that you don't get achievements if you're not host. Kind of annoying, especially if you care about gamerscore.

Past that, it's a total blast. The loadout screen is kind of annoying, since it shows the same squad for both players at the same time(so you can't go and just adjust your guys and your partner can play with his), and you need to be connected to the internet to do it-everything is handled through Games for Windows Live(Xbox Live for windows) and steam.

Also, on the topic of Relic games, if you two have Company of Heroes(and have played it quite a bit), the Joint Operations mod is worth checking out:

It's basically a bunch of campaign-like scripted maps for 1-3 players(most of them balanced for 2). Very difficult, so they're not really recommended if you haven't played the game quite a bit, but they're a ton of fun if you have.

I highly recommend Titan Quest. The two of you could spend a week playing together and maaaybe finish it.

Thanks again for all the suggestions! We'll find something for sure!

"Hidden & Dangerous 2" is also very good as a co-op game. It's pretty cheap these days, if you can find a copy. The graphics are much better, as are the controls.
