Declare Your Independence from Something New by Playing Something Old

Pages

Summer time, God awful heat (at least in Texas) and a general lull in the quantity and quality of new titles. Sounds like a perfect combination to go and play something from your Pile of Shame. So, put away your sunscreen, you won't need it here, and let's get to playing some games!

This month's Pick of the Pile is

[size=30][b]Heroes of Might and Magic V

"The Griffin Empire is getting ready for a celebration — the marriage of the young Emperor Nicolai to his sweetheart Isabel. The festivities are interrupted, however, by the emergence of Demons! Like his father twenty years before, Nicolai leads his army to war. Isabel, however, is banished to the safety of the Summer Palace.

Portrait But Isabel cannot sit still when she could be helping.

The war appears to be going badly, so she convinces her escorts, Beatrice and Godric, to seek help.

Godric leaves to solicit aid from the powerful mages of the Shining Cities. Beatrice volunteers to seek help from the Elven armies of Irollan. Isabel takes to horseback, scouring the countryside to raise a militia.

But other powers are also at work--older and darker ones that have been plotting for ages…" (mightandmagic.com)

I'm going with Ultimate Spider-Man on the Xbox.

Oh, and if you were quick, you could have seen my title typo.

Well, let's try Little Big Planet again. I swear I'm just on the verge of ... hopping back in where I stopped playing in November.

I got swept into the neat little XBLA title, MtG: Duels of the Planeswalkers, and it gave me the urge to enjoy some card games on the go, so I pulled out the exceptional Metal Gear Acid 2 for PSP.

It's been a while since I played the game so I simply started a new file and have been rekindling my love for this hidden PSP gem on those long Metro rides to and from work.

Now, if I can just finish the damn thing this time!

Put me down for Ghost Recon - Advanced Warfighter again. I picked it up last month briefly and got past the part that was holding me back from finishing it the last time. Hopefully I will do better this month!

What are the rules on, when finishing one game, adding a second to the pile halfway through the month? Is that allowed?

I'll carry over Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory from last month. Perhaps this month I'll actually take it out of its jewel case.

Also, I'd like to add Rune Factory Frontier. While it isn't that old and I don't actually own it, I've had it checked out from GameFly for two months. That is quite long enough.

Last month was a wash for me. The 360 was out for repairs, and instead of playing the Wii games that are on my pile, I played PS3 games on a loaned machine.

So, I'm carrying over a couple of games from last month's pile: Far Cry 2 (360) and Super Mario Galaxy. Also, I'm going to finish the campaign on Disgea DS, although I have no plans to stop playing it after that.

Go for it. I check the thread all month long.

Sweet. I will leave it at that for now then. If I finish it I will wave my penis around for a while to celebrate, and then perhaps pick another game.

I learned a long time ago to only pick one game at a time. If I tried to list more than one at the beginning of the month, invariably something would come up and I wouldn't finish any of them. My goal is one per month, anything else is a bonus.

First time trying for something on the pile, and I'm going to go with:

Okami for Wii.

While I technically haven't had it in my pile for very long (only about a month or so), I think it's old enough a game in general to qualify.

Wow, you're going with a big one for your first game! I've never played it on the Wii, but Okami is still one of the most beautiful games I've played. I hope you enjoy it!

I'm going to try something different this month. Instead of stating up front which game I will fail to finish, I'm going to play something and if it looks like I might actually finish the game (whatever it is), then I pop in and post. Just to, you know, change things up a bit.

I'm putting Zelda PH back on the list. As I posted in last months thread, I'll probably get a chance to finish it this weekend. I'm also going to make a commitment to finish DOW II.
EDIT: I am so close to completing both games that they are almost a gimmie. Now it'll just be a challenge to get away from X3 to play anything else on my PC.

X3: Terran Conflict (PC)

"But Quintin!" you may cry in dismay, "that's a sandbox game with no real end!"

"You shut your filthy whore mouth!" I would reply, jabbing my fingers into your eyes and then sticking a rabid weasel down your pants.

I'm going for two games this month!! Mainly because i've already played throuh a large portion of ME but i just never picked it back up again.

Blacksite Area 51 - PC
Mirror's Edge - 360

I always feel like I have a rabid weasel down my pants anyway. YOUR THREATS DO NOT SCARE ME!

I put it under "Multi" in case any PS2 people want to jump on.

I used to have to pay for that... wait

Quintin is a step ahead of me, he has at least admitted to himself that he isn't going to stop playing X3 this month. I'm still hanging on to the hope I'll let myself finish something. It isn't looking good at this point though.

Going to try and get through Hulk: Ultimate Destruction on the XBox. Works great on the 360, and looks tons better than the GameCube version I've been playing. And, since I'm feeling frisky, add Bioshock (360) to that list as well. Y'know what? Since I'm probably going to carry a few of these over into October, let's add Ninja Gaiden Sigma for the PS3 as well. That should about do it...

So many games, so little time allowed by the wife to play them

Splinter Cell for Xbox.

I've been putting my 360's back compat to good use lately.

My wife saw that I was looking at the HoMM5 pack on Steam, and went ahead and gifted it to me as a birthday present. So, while its the most recent addition to my pile, it is still a semi-old game. With any luck I'll be able to add the expansions later in the month.

I tried and failed in April, so I'll try again: Metroid Prime 3 for the Wii. I may get adventurous and try Okami again, too, but don't put me down for that until I'm making progress elsewhere.

Hemi- DOW II is a PC only game FYI

I only have two games started right now: Super Mario RPG on the Wii's Virtual Console, and Jeanne D'Arc on the PSP. I'll definitely have SMRPG done in a couple days (the game isn't very long and I've been playing in 2-3 hour sittings), but Jeanne D'Arc I hear is quite long. It's a fun game though, so let's hope I can scratch out two on the month.

Trueheart I hope you are enjoying H:UD. That is such a fun game.

I'll be playing Oddworld: Munch's Odyssey on the original Xbox. I've played it before but damn is that a good game.

What are you trying to say?

Hey, I just started. I'm like the young crack whore who still has some tread left on the tires.

I'm going to whip out ye olde Heroes of Might and Magic V. I noticed it on Steam over the weekend, and now I'm going to track down my discs and give it another whirl. Go team Necromancer!

Right, so I finally finished last months game (Stalker) today, typical eh? But I was in such a state when I got into the end section (armour torn up by those ridiculously hard Monolith stalkers, ammo very short, radiation meds all gone and spamming a rapidly dwindling supply of health packs just to survive the radiation level) that I would have died very quickly had I decided to go and investigate the secret lab as I wanted to, so I just took the 'make a wish' ending. So my list game this month is replay the end bit of Stalker until I'm geared up enough to go back to the NPP properly prepared and find out what's in the lab! You can just put it as Stalker if you like though:)
