Arma 2 Catch All

I'm aware of people complaining about Nvidia issues but it looks to be an issue related to specific driver versions. I know that the version I'm running now runs Arma 2 great, and I'll keep using it until an optimized ArmA2 driver comes out. I used to be a huge ATI fan but my last card was such a pain in the ass I was worried about dealing with Catalysts again. Still I was able to find a BFG GTX 280 1GB shipped for 280 bucks Canadian. Between this and my $150.00 360 I've been on a good deal streak lately!

Nice deal! I am please with my 4890 XXX for 200. I am going to oc that bad boy up to 1000mhz.

Is the demo able to join in on Jale's server? I'd like to try this game.

Nope the demo is not compatible with the retail.

[quote:Karmajay]Also, I have a problem in vehicles where the screen just starts saying RECEIVING and goes black but I can still hear all the noises. I have to close it using the control panel.[/quote] I had the same proble,, a quick update of the Nvidia drivers fixed that right up.

Great game, but it's like eating an elephant to get used to all the controls, voice comms, map icons, jargon, and armaments.

Truth to that, but after getting into my first significant firefight last night and taking out a Vodnik with a SMAW, I am thrilled I made this purchase.

For me it was riding a 10 speed into a fire fight.

Argh. Arma 2 is one of those titles that reminds me my single core computer is a dinosaur.

Even early Dual cores don't cut it (Pentium Ds). It's Core2Duo or better.

My biggest beef is when riding, not driving, in a humvee I should be able to shoot out the window. An M4 is more then capable of handling this task. If I have a larger weapon at least let me use my side arm.

You'll shoot your eye out kid.

Wow the mission editor is complex and not very intuitive. I am trying to piece a simple assault mission to add to a small coop session and I can not even figure out how to populate with enemies.

Wired Make the assault using the Mission Wizard. It will put all the triggers and whatnot in place, then you can customize by adding units and waypoints. It's not outwardly intuitive, but the layout makes a lot of sense and it doesn't take much tinkerin' to build a simple mission.

Where the hell is that wizzard:)

Go to "Scenarios", select "My Missions" , then select one of the templates!

We just had a great evening running some coop scenarios. Like I was telling the guys on Vent, it really "clicked" for me tonight. Super excited at the prospect of getting some cream of the crop user made missions and tackling them with a good group.

I have this installed now and would love to run this with people. Really cool user mission.

Looks good to me!

If anyone is feeling rich, here is a nice demo of how Track IR works with Arma II.

I'm having a great time with this in co-op servers with the domination mod. We spent a good 2 hours tonight trying to take down one town and it was a blast.

Nice to have a game that rewards real tactics, especially bounding overwatch.

I don't really get it. Can't you look and move in different directions without this thing? I see how you can aim and look in different directions, but does this ever help much? It seems like most games just let you walk sideways as fast as you'd walk forward. It may look a little weird, but you can still look and walk in different directions.

TrackIR works REALLY well with ArmA2. Much better than Arma 1. It really helps your SA when in vehicles to be able to look around while driving. It also allows you to move with your weapon aimed at one target and quickly check your 3 and 9. It also works great with IL2! :p

Yeah, you just hold the ALT key, it's a little like Mech Warrior in many ways.

But FreeTrack doesn't work with ArmA2 right now, except by cracked executables, and I've only seen german versions of those.

You can't strafe as fast as you can run in arma2. Trackir makes a big difference.

Wow this game is pretty and wow is it a pain in the tail to get used to.

picked it up last night - was listening in to the vent channel and it sounded like you guys were having a great time.

Hooked up my TIR4 when it finished downloading and ran through a quick training mission. Game is running well for me (though I had to turn the mouse sensitivity down to 0), so hopefully you guys will be online tonight.

So basically Arma created a problem that an expensive peripheral fixes. They could always adjust the movement speed so its the same running sideways as forwards just like every other game.

My computer couldn't even run this game, but I was intrigued by all the people on steam playing and I didn't know what it was. I watched a few videos and this TrackIR was one of them. It confused me.

I always miss these games. Someone drop me a line man!

I finished the first several tutorials so I am in. I havent picked up a TRACK IR yet since I have been on vacation, but since I pin on Commander tomorrow - I think I will treat myself.

I'm working on getting the server setup with some co-op missions. If anybody finds some they like, please forward the info to me via PM. Also, I am having difficulty figuring out the dedicated server config settings to add custom missions to the rotation. It does not seem to be as simple as it is for locallly hosted games. I fiddled with it over the weekend but had no success. If somebody spots some info on this please send me an IM. I've dug around the official forums and wikis but they have not been much help.

My new trackir5 will be here tomorrow. My old Track IR broke a year ago during a move. ArmA 2 gave me a good excuse to upgrade.
