Try setting up a new server following the directions in the original post. I just created a test account, and it worked fine...

cool, got it working (though I've lost privledges, but that isn't too big a deal, but see below)

Can someone make a GWJRPG: D&D group again?

Done. If you want it passworded, pm me the desired password, please.

But, but, that means you'll be able to listen to our secret rituals.

I hear not the words of this expatriate!

If it's any consolation, I'm looking at another weekend of shoveling heavy, wet snow.

Plus my 7 year-old son found a pocket knife on Tuesday and accidently took it to school. He got caught putting it in his desk so that it wouldn't be in his pocket and ended up with a five day suspension. Back in TX he would've gotten some NRA literature and a "I voted for Heston" bumper sticker.

Hey guys, so I'd like to join the Goodjer Ventrilo community to play some Demigod. I'm still learning how to use Ventrilo (just downloaded, just installed, have no idea what I'm doing).

I've used the IP and pwd provided in the original post; 216.6.226.72 and mmmkay.

I've read most of the thread but skipped some long posts as I'm at the office,

please let me know what the donation is so I can pony up my part!

thanks!

Wow, harsh. Here in NE, they would just comment at least it's not a buck knife, and told me to keep it shut. (Accidentally brought my letherman to school.)

The new overlay feature is quite nice, it has been a real help in learning which voice goes with which person. The settings I find least intrusive are to set it to Auto Open, drop the Status Page options down to just "Receiving from," and drop all the Popup Trigger Events except "Voice Stream Start." Then set the popup close delay to 2 or 3 seconds.

It's not perfect...sometimes it gets lost when I start a game, or refuses to pop up until I forcibly open and close it once with a bind. But it's far enough along that I think it's worth using.

Can we get a Single Player room created? One for games that are SP only, yet we'd like to hang out and chat over the long hours. Also, a place for all the MP buggers to come find us when they want too. Make some sub-rooms, so if we want to break out all game-specific like we can. Thanks!

I can't connect to the server right now, but isn't there a Coffee Shop or something like that already? No sub-channels but I think there's a hang out one already.

Everything you desire is there! There's a "Single Player Coffee Shop" for talk while playing whatever, and there are rooms for various multi-player games.

I guess there aren't currently specialized rooms for single player, though there could be.

As a newbie to Vent, I'd like to encourage more GWJers to hang out there. It's the perfect way to see what's being played and hook up with people.

I do wish one "lobby service" could bridge PC/Xbox/PS3! It's a pain to know that while I'm hanging in Vent waiting for enough people for a Demigod game that some fun Magic action might be happening in 360-land...

You guys do realize that there are only 50 slots, right? I don't own it, but I would think you would not want it to become a hang out, you could be locking out people who are actually trying to get together in a game (for example, Thursday nights seem to get close to filling up with all the different games going on). I think the Steam group voice chat might be a better way to just hang out, just my opinion.

I didn't know that...which means the WoW folks usually have half the slots available or so.

And I didn't know there was a Steam group chat...have to look into that.

I'm having trouble connecting to Vent. Am I alone in this? It just says "Contacting Server" and never connects.

Ok who broke vent?

I can't connect either

Me too.
Dammit, GWJ-DG withdrawal setting in... must not cave...

If there is a 50 user limit I'm sure it is due to cost.
Which I am happy to donate some cash to - just let me know where/how.

(p.s. - I'm going to put out a DG game and leave the lobby up for 10 minutes or so to see if anyone joins )

What's the skinny with Vent? The website doesn't say anything about it being down. Is it a problem with the server that WE are connecting to?

I miss vent! I need to start donating money.

I fired a text off to TheWalt.

Is it still down? I restarted the server thru the web interface, but am currently not on my home computer (all my stuff is in storage as I'm in the process of moving). I probably need to set up some alternate Web-portal power users, starting with Fedaykin.

It's up -- thanks!

The vent server that GWJ uses has clan pay function (it is mentioned in the original post). If we start hitting the limit, then we should upgrade the server. I would be willing to donate some money for the cause, and I would expect with more then 50 people wanting to use the servers, we can get enough donations for the upgrade to last years. It is only $5.50 a month more to get to a 75 slot plan. http://www.darkstarllc.com/

Have we ever actually hit the limit? I can imagine that if the WoWers were doing a 25-man and the TF2ers or whoever were having a big game, we potentially could, but has it ever happened?

Yeah, we had issues a couple of Wednesdays back with Demigod going strong.

I created a windows vista gadget that I use to see who is on the vent server. I have been using it for a few months now and thought that others might want to try it. It uses the "Thumper's VoIP Spy" tool to peek at who is online on the server. The gadget can be downloaded at VentriloGWJ.gadget. To use the gadget, download the file (make sure it is saved as a .gadget file) and double click it. Windows Vista will install it as a usable gadget and place it on the sidebar.

The gadget only consists of a simple HTML file and an XML file. It uses an iframe to make a call to the "Thumper's VoIP Spy" server to generate the list. I haven't had any issues with it (no malware or viruses that I can detect) but since it is third party, I cannot vouch for the integrity of the tool so use it at your own risk. Let me know if there are any issues.

EDIT: I checked the site that is referenced in the iframe with Norton SafeWeb and it shows no known risks with the site. http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=vspy.guildlaunch.net&x=11&y=16

Can we get a channel added for the "Wii-kly game night"? Some sort of title like that would be fine.

Hooray for Nintendo not supporting voice chat in most thing and making it stupidly annoying when they do.

I sent in a donation, started using this when i got back into wow and am on it a good bit these days so I figured it was time to do my part.

Would it be possible to set up a "League of Legends" channel? Right now a few of us are in the beta, but it's pretty easy to get in and I hope others will join us (perhaps from the Demigod crowd). There is no in game voice chat, although there is currently a vent server for the beta, but I don't know if that will last. Thanks.
